I have the createx cx1. Why can't i remove the aircap without removing the whole nozzle?

I'm 77 years old and been painting since teenager. Made some money and had them all. Hands down, the only one I'd buy again is Paasche VL. Solid and sturdy and easy to afford and last I checked , still made in Chicago!!! Have an able friend rig up a refrigerator compressor and your off to the races. And, forget all that trap about special paints and use acrylics and start counting profits instead! I've got a shirt that's 40 some years old! And with any brush care and cleaning is important.

That's what I've been having a hard time trying to figure out what paint to buy. So I just bought some cortex water base acrylic for $ 20 bucks for red, green, black, blue, yellow, white to get myself started I'll learn as I will go along maybe I paid to much. They might have some paints at Wal Mart I didn't even check. I just want to use this air gun and supplies that went with it. Few diffrent air brushes I have no idea who makes them it was all given to me. Like you said just clean it up when your done and take care of it. That's what everyone was telling me as long as you keep it clean up before putting it away.

@@snoopu2601 Paint does matter though. Acrylics are great, but if you do small work like figures then get good quality ones with fine pigment or otherwise you will be messing around with your airbrush and your airflow and your thinners trying to figure out why you can't get the result you want. I love Valejo paints since the quality is great and they can be thinned down a lot while still painting very well so they last me forever.

I'm 27yrs in and first started with Badger 150/Paasche VL/ Thayer & Chandler Vega...the only one I can still fire up from those days and handle a hustle is the VL. The Vegas were just as good, I just can't find any of mine and I had a manifold of 6🤔 I first got my Iwata Eclipse in 97' it's the only match to the VL parts and performance wise...but if I want to go commando w/ a single airbrush, I'd pull out my all chromed out VL with the snub air cap/button trigger/cutaway handle official Paasche mods and single airbrush a tshirt hustle quick, I know one half second plug to a cleaner bottle, she's ready for any color in the hue range. Eclipse takes just a little longer still despite their floating nozzle design.

That's fine if you want a siphon feed, which isn't for anyone. The Talon or Vision are better for a little more. And paint quality and composition IS important. 40 years ago you didn't have access to the stuff we do now, and it matters because its better.

@@AirbrushAsylum it isn't the amount of information that makes people crazy, it's the repetition.."we've preloaded it with thinned out paint".....15 seconds later "the paint is pre thinned and ready to go" "some people just want to use it to fill in background on canvas or whatever"...20 seconds later..."like I said some people might just want to fill in backgrounds" ....I think you probably just need to work on editing your videos and it'll be fine.....constructive criticism for what it's worth.

I was looking at that exact red airbrush online yesterday (it comes in gold & black colours too) but I wasn’t sure, never done airbrushing before so didn’t wanna spend a fortune straight up but obviously wanted something that wasn’t completely useless either.... I’ve been airbrushing for 47 years. What I’ve learnt is the basic principles of how an airbrush works is the same no matter the make or price of a unit. A plastic body vs a metal one makes no difference. What does effect the quality of work out of any airbrush is how the paint is thinned, air pressure and technique. None of this has anything to do with the so-called “quality” of the airbrush.

I agree. I've not tried airbrushing yet, but as an artist a pencil is a pencil. In fact if you can learn on a "lower quality" tool, moving up to a pricer one is a bonus, but the basic techniques and understanding the basic tool is what really matters.

Sorry but you're full of it. I've used everything from an Aztec brush to a paasche, vega 2000, and my to go to brush the hpc Iwata. I can tell you that it makes a huge difference in the brush you use. That's fact. And a plastic airbrush is as useless as tits on a mouse. Try running solvents through one then let those out there know what you think after those solvents start breaking down your brush components. As far as water based paints think about it. Acrylic paint running through a plastic unit. Plastic paint tends to stick to plastic parts rather well. Makes cleaning a bitch. been painting automotive pieces for a while and I'd never use a plastic airbrush.

@@mikeklug3369 you may in fact be right, but it doesn't make you a better artist. It may make you a quicker artist, and be of less hassle, but the tool alone is not the important thing. I have also heard that Iwata is a superior brand :) If you move from an iwata to a cheaper, almost marginal, airbrush your work will suffer a great deal until you adapt to the specific eccentricities of the new tool.

I learned how to use my airbrush in this clip than all the tips and tricks clips I’ve seen so far.. nice ...

The Iwata HP-CS is my workhorsre. I have had mine since 2008 and have only needed to replace the needle, nosle and the part that grips the needle. I love it.

Great review. Thanks for making it. I mostly just paint models, so I didn't want to spend a fortune on an airbrush. I've been using cheapos for about thirty years. Ten years ago, I bought a $100 dual action airbrush. It works really well for the price. I still have a couple of $15-$20 syphon-fed airbrushes that I use for basic work, such as when I want to paint entire pieces a single colour. They're easy to clean because they can't be taken apart very much. I just run some white spirits or water through the cheap brushes & use a cotton bud to get into the tricky areas. The dual action airbrush is syphon or gravity fed. I prefer gravity fed. It's a pain to clean though, because there are about 20 parts. I like to give that a proper cleaning after each session of using it.

I just bought that one at Amazon some weeks ago and I love it :3 I just use the airbrush to apply sealant and change the skin colour of my dolls and I NEVER thought my aribrush was able to do such fine lines xD I learned something today!

Main thing I have always told students about airbrushes and the buying there of. 1) The end result is 80% the actual artist's abilities. I have made some cheap equipment work for demos (I was paid to do) by upping the air pressure and thinning down the medium. 2) The quality of the paint/medium used (5%). (an example; Fabric paints are a pain for fine detail images) Water colours are so simple to spray detail with. 3) The airbrush accounts for around 15% in most cases. When purchasing an airbrush: A) is it for hobby work or the other end, professional markets. B) where are you located in the world... can you drive down the road and pick up spare parts, if it comes from overseas and you drop that baby in the middle of a job ... you see my point?) C) Reality check, can you afford the high end and it's replacement needles/tips. an example; a high end EFBE German airbrush tip and needle set is well over $100 AUS while a Sparmax set is around 35-40 bucks. Finally, always remember the airbrush doesn't make the art great, you do. I've been doing it for over 50 years and at one time or another I've been a service agent for Olympus, Paasche, Iwata, EFBE and Sparmax here in Australia. I own two AB Turbo's (no longer made), 4 EFBE (all sizes, including the 0,15mm), several Paasche (all sizes and models) about 8 Sparmax with the SP-35 my favorite. A very old HPC, (that I changed the packing washers to allow me to use solvent base paints) and two HPBs. Had a Micron, got rid of it as the EFBE 0.15 was able to do finer detail.(again personal choice) So to sum it up, buy the best you can afford, from a company near your location, that will handle your type of work. And practice all the time ... and then practice some more. DON'T TRUST THE GUY OR GAL AT THE ART STORE SELLING IT! Odds are they are sales reps, not airbrush experts. You can read the box, and that's what they are doing ;) ...

Mate, I suffer from wounds I got in Vietnam (101st Airborne, Strike Force) which have forced me to retire. I've just set up my new studio and purchase on a fine art printer, Drew Blair and JW Baker both told me this was the unit to buy so in time I will be selling Limited edition of wild life art Under Airbrush Ken. Airbrush Asylum is run by a great guy down in Victoria ... sadly not as cool as Sydney, but he never listens to me ... lol ... I am serious about practice makes the artist. You have to train your muscles to respond without forethought. It's magic when you look at an image you are trying to create and just drop the pressure/pinch the air hose, move a few mills further from the surface, without thinking about it, because you've trained you muscles to react to your visual input. I love to paint, I'm in 7th Heaven working with ease , creating what I visualize. It's like pinstriping. Feeling the pull of the paint on the surface ... after lots of practice it become second nature. I paint usually 4-5 days a week, in the past many weeks 7 days ... it's not work, it's love. Thank you for your service, sir I could not agree more and as you said, It's a labor of love I wish I had started earlier and had more time to do it more! I could never stop.

It all falls down to user preference and user skills plus budget. I still use cheapos for my model painting because I feel like I am not worthy to have an expensive one yet lol, no joke. Yet maybe in the years to come I might buy a branded one once I level my skills up to jet, tank and car models. One thing the cheapos teach you is to clean your airbrush thoroughly and never skimp on it because you know it's gonna mess up if you don't. Thank you for this vid! 👍

Great video. The problem with the cheaper airbrushed is the longevity. Because they use rubber bushings, if you use cellular service or lacquer thinner it will destroy the rubber eventually.

Your comparation is SO good

I recently purchased this same Iwata airbrush. I have gone a number of the cheaper ones as well. The thing that never seems to get mentioned is the Iwata is a lot easier to clean. It is as if it has a special coating that keeps the paint from sticking to it. Definitely worth the extra money.

Anyone know the reason why my ab is working with water but not paint even if I thin it I've also cleaned it out and the needle doesn't go in unless I take the nozzle out 1st please let me know also I got that cheap one

Thank you for this video and all of the vids you have posted, because of you I've started airbrushing again after several years. Also, I truly respect your honesty when doing comparisons of equipment. You give us noobs hope knowing that we don't have to break the bank to start airbrushing. BTW, with your talent you could probably spray ink through a turd and still create a beautiful work of art 😀

I own 4 Master airbrushes and they average a price of around $30 each on Amazon, and as long as you take care of them and treat them right these work fantastic, and for the price if you dropped one by accident its cheaper then replacing a $120+ Iwata model.

About 4 years ago, I decided that I wanted to try a side feed but was afraid to spend big money on a brush that I wouldn't like - so I bought a Master SB86. It wasn't too bad out of the box, but because replacement needles are cheap, I decided to experiment... A little black magic marker on the needle tip (to make sure I followed the right angle), about 10 seconds in the drill with 3000 grit (at LOW speed), followed by another 20 seconds or so with some Flitz to polish it up, and now it preforms as well as my Iwata. No more $200 - $500 airbrushes for me. If I had all the money I've spent on top dollar airbrushes since I started back in 1981, I'd have dozens of Masters right now. LOL (Still not quite sure I like the balance/feel of a side feed though)

I have the Iwata HP-CS. My all time favorite airbrush. I also have a fake version of Iwata's top end detailing brush - it's priced at roughly $30 on Amazon. It is very well made for the price point and performs quite well as long as you take very good care of it as with anything. Between the two, i find that Iwata is much easier to clean. Looking at the spray patterns up close, the Iwata has a much finer atomized spray but I'm not too concerned with that when I'm customizing shoes. Great video!

Very nice review. I would never expect a $20 airbrush to perform at the level of a $200 airbrush. That said for those on a tight budget, just starting out, or willing to polish the needles, oil the trigger, and make sure the I rings are not flattened or destroyed these should do well. You make your living with this tool, so having the best available makes sense. I think for Amy artist when you get to the point where you feel the cheep one is holding you back, you have saved up for a nice Iwata.

Airbrush Asylum it would be interesting. Here in the U.S. we have the master airbrush brand. I think if you shoot water based paint like createx / wicked / Auto colors they should last. They do sell needles and parts for the brand here, so that is a good thing. I have a pachee siphon feed from the early 80's I am getting started with.

An alternative to Iwata is Badger, and NO there not paying me. They are reasonably priced and of great quality.

I have an HP-CS for around 8 years now, and it's fantastic for the money as the best starter brush. After I outgrew it, I stepped up to a Micron CM-C+ V2 which is truly something you can appreciate once you have those thousands of hours spraying, and to take it a step further my other Micron CM-SB V2 is an even further improvement. I earned my B.A. in Art Studio with those brushes, Iwata has always been my go to, and always will be. But, like you said their are few of us that are full time artists, and need that kind of performance day after day.

Yes...this is SO true, many people don’t want to even spend $100 on a brush ‘to see if it something that they may enjoy’ therefore a cheaper alternative is a great way to ‘have a play’ then when you are hooked you can then buy a reputable brand. I have all of those brushes mentioned and agree totally that the CS eclipse is a great all rounder but once your skill improves you really can’t go past a micron 😜👍🏼

Whats the difference, they are essentially the same airbrush? I have two Hp cs and they never fail, no matter the application. The micron has a slightly smaller needle ? The design is almost identical though from what i see.

Cool I haven't airbrushed in nearly 30years and a lot of systems and paints have changed over the years and now I'm trying to get back into it again. Going to go with a cheep system for now and practice again. Thanks for the info.

I've found that the primary issue with the cheaper tools is quality control. Sometimes you get a fantastic value. But sometimes you get a total POS that isn't even properly threaded

Fully agree. I bought one and it never turned on out the box. Probably a faulty switch or circuit board.

I love my cheap 20$ airbrush for big things like primer, rough shading or terrain. Anything fine where consistency is important; nope. Being cheap means I can abuse it without feeling guilty and it's so simple it is surprisingly sturdy. It was my first one which did cause me some problems trying to learn airbrushing. It took me a long while to figure out wether a problem was because of me or because of my cheap airbrush. Most problems were because of me (not thinning paint well enough or wrong pressure) but after trying everything I found out that my cheap brush is simply inconsitent with fine work, despite polishing the needle etc. So learning to airbrush with a cheap brush..well it has pros and cons.

Yes, well said ...cheap is ok if you want to just give airbrushing a go or use the airbrush for a short period of time to spray a few backgrounds or blends and then bin it...investing in a quality airbrush will always pay off in the long run. 👍🏻

I hope you do an updated comparison. I think a lot of cheap AB releases has improved after 2 years since your comparison review. I wonder how the new cheap ones compares to the branded ones

As a modeler, the Iwata is a god-sent. The paint consistency is just so much better than a cheap airbrush. Still, one can only appreciate a good airbrush after using 2 or 3 bad ones.

I'm just amazed you did all that with no "spittle" from the brush. Every time I use an airbrush I have to spray to the side every time I pause to get rid of any build up. Makes me think I'm doing something wrong!

Scott Sproul He keeps the air flowing all the time thru the brush (trigger depressed). That prevents the build-up on the tip of the needle that causes splatter. But if you want to work in that manner, make sure you have a good compressor.

Thanks , it is true using the double action technique correctly will help to minimize tip dry and in turn stop spitting of the brush and as the other comment also mentioned a compressor that can adequately provide consistent airflow will help dramatically 👍🏼

Oh wow... just realized I need to buy the air pump now.

Having used various cheap and "name" Iwata, H&S, Badger, and Paasche, Aztek airbrushes over the decades, the point of the video is well taken, especially for "non precise" work where the airbrush is not planned to last, or is basically doing the work of a spray can... IMO there are three main differences between name and cheap airbrushes 1) If fine line accuracy is needed, cheap units won't cut it, 2) replacement parts. They can be difficult/impossible to get for no name brushes, turning them into paperweights when a part goes south. We know we will be able to buy a new Iwata needle or nozzle for decades to come... with el cheapo brands, such a task will be a major challenge, as replacement parts are unlikely to be easily available. 3) Quality control on "name" airbrushes is universally higher than no name units. Getting a "good" one is definitely more a matter of rolling the dice than good QC from the factory

Thanks for a great review. I am getting my first airbrush for modelling in just a few weeks in probably the same class / quality as you are showing here. I take away from this that it will be just fine for my major camouflage schemes but perhaps not eyebrows on 1/48 scale people lol just as well I won't have the skills anyway, right?

I have one of the budget or starter annodized ones. It did ok as a beginner brush but I upgraded to a much more expensive one. I am still rubbish. So can't blame the brush. Although the cheap one is still fine! Still works great and no issues. No flaking yet

You need to buy those Asian pencils - they'll make you a much better artist ;)

I am an Iwata fan but any time I am experimenting with a chin knock off and I run across something useful, I order a spare and use it for parts. You will rarely find single parts but these things are so cheap that ordering an extra for parts is a no brainer.

the cheaper "noname" ahem (HUBEST) air brush would work good and in some cases damn good for most model kit paint jobs, the "fuzzy" lines would help ass to patterns and blending more.

I bought this red airbrush. Came with a stuck trigger and a bad needle. So expect hit or miss with them. Now repaired it works great with a .2mm set. Parts are cheap and easily found. Best regards!

Please don't get me wrong. We are all forced to work on our airbrushes. It was fixed with a new needle and a little work. Now it works absolutely great. Would I recommend cloned airbrushes? Yes, anyone who has even minimal airbrushing experience can get clones working fantastic. Regardless of how much we spend, they all need constant attention. I have favorite ones, they range in price from $15 usd to $500 usd. But a $500 usd airbrush out of the box needs nothing but skill! Best wishes and regards sir!

Why do you use aerbrushes without neddle cap ? I saw this also in others videos..Do you risk damaging the tip ?

Yes you do, but it allows for easier cleaning of tip drying as well as allowing for finer detailing 👍🏼

I know this video is old in internet terms, but thanks for the heads up. I'm a beginner at airbrush painting , but since my bday's coming up it's a good excuse to grab myself the Iwata Eclipse to replace my shitty single action siphon feed. Like my father always says, a good worker has good tools.

This was recommended to me because Im painting plastic (game controllers) would this work on plastic if, let's say I apply a adhesive promoter first? Im not looking for anything fancy, Im looking for just a solid color paintjob.

I bought the Iwata NEO CN the other day and Hobby Lobby carries all replacement parts. I build model kits is all i airbrush. Airbrushing 1/24 and 1/25 scale kits is alot different from running a t-shirt shop. All ive gotta buy now is another air line for my compressor.

Jeremy Evans - How has been holding up with painting your 1/24 scale models? I see that neo iwata at hobby lobby all the damn time and it just calls me lol.

Thing is about the cheap airbrush is what the internals are like how big is the feed hole in the bottom of the pot needle and parts quality. Getting parts can also be tough or impossible and yes you'll go through some needles. If you can afford a decent brush I'd go with that if not yet the cheaper ones. I personally like Badger their and it in and get it fixed policy and knowledge of their projects is very good. I see you picking at the needle with your finger nail easy to bend a tip doing that. I cut a small piece of cheap sponge damp with Windex hold out between two fingers in the of hand and clean the dried paint quick with it. Works great and has saved a shit ton in needles.

I saw that video. I like the way you use the sponge.. your "most recent newbie video" ... I'm not NEW now... but, I'm "young to airbrush" ... so.. I still take a gander at "newbie videos" ... I Really liked the photo frame practice board... very interesting..

@@influentialolive Yeah I bought a large picture frame with glass I throw in a paper with lines dots ect to try and follow. The glass is very easy to clean and start all over again. Also painting on the smooth glass surface makes you really control your flow very handy way to train up.

This was a really helpful and informative video. Sure you rambled a bit but I don’t mind wasting like 3 minutes lol thanks for this!

Hey! Great video. I'm looking into airbrushing, mainly to add additional effects to my artwork. I'm kinda confused about the compressors. Are they a universal thing, where most airbrushes fit all compressors, or do you have to stick to the same brand?

Good night elski. After many years using different compressors, I achieved happiness by building one by myself. Using an old refrigerator compressor and an empty fire extinguisher. The only things I had to buy were the pressure regulator and the automatic pressure switch. What is the big difference? SILENCE !!! The vast majority of airbrush compressors are that they make a lot of noise! In addition to that, the large majority also use a rubber membrane to generate air, with the passing of the minutes that membrane heats up and begins to cause condensed steam It turns into water and is spit for the paint job we are doing.That's why I recommend that you inform yourself in order to build (or have someone else do it for you) one like the one I did. You will never regret it.

Thanks for your comment I use and recommend iwata compressors check out this video showcasing the one we use in our classes - kzread.info/dash/bejne/i3WazJSqmszge7Q.html that said, you don’t need a specific compressor for airbrushing just get the best one that you can afford. All the best 👍🏻😉

yes... this is as helpfull as comparing a beetle with or versus a ... porsche ! they both do the same thing ...but there is the quality factor...thus the PRICE ... no news here. just remember an airbrush is a tool , the performance of a tool depends on the skills of the person using it.

Nice videos, I learned a lot. What do you think about these sets of airbrush and compressor for about 35,-€ (or the same in dollars)?

No joke, but i been doing commissions for decades and never touched a branded one. All I had these years were 2 generic chinese airbrushes, one 7cc cup & one 9cc cup. Both were 0.3mm sized. Never polished needles, but did replace them each year. Lol maybe one day I'll get a branded one just to be less of an 'outcast'?? =)

As far as these guns go, most people only benefit using them for shadowing. So even the cheaper ones for $20 will work fine

Yes definitely if you are not planning on using it for art or really intricate details then the cheaper option will work just fine 👍🏻

Thanks for your comment , you can run any paint through your airbrush providing it’s a ‘milky’ consistency. Brands like Trident and Createx can be used straight out of the bottle or thinned with their reducer to your liking, I always prefer to thin them but it’s up to the artist. In regards to enamel, I don’t use any but I would imagine you would need to reduce it using turpentine ? I always suggest doing a sample panel when experimenting with ratios and new paint products . To be fair I'm not close enough to see clearly but from what ive seen the more expensive brush didnt seem to perform x10 better.

I have both, got the cheap one from AliExpress for $11 and it paints better than my Eclipse, although that could be the fault of the user as well. (cleaning etc)

I have owned cheap and my current line of iwata and while cheap brushes will perform for the first little while but break down quite easy after a few uses, you get what you pay for

Hey. Great video for me as my kids bought me this very airbrush for Christmas, I'm a total newbie to airbrushing so would want to spend a fortune if I don't get on airbrushing. Do you know the maker and model so I can't try to locate parts for it.

You say the eclipse is due a new needle and nozzle....so my question is how many hours use before one needs to replace...I ask as I’ve just bought a Eclipse hp cs ...regards Fred

I generally swap a nozzle on my brushes once to twice a year and I am airbrushing frequently ie...most days of the week. I use SharpenAir to keep my needles in check , hope that helps 👍🏼

Just seen this video. I'm a plastic modeller and have a number of cheap airbrushes, some of which have lasted a fair while with light maintenance. One thing I do before using any new cheap brush is rub the needle with a fine abrasive cloth or cream to remove any of the artifacts from the manufacturing process (there is a video on KZread by Scale-A-Ton showing some prep steps to get them better). I accept this is an extra process that the branded brushes don't need but did you prepare the needle on your red brush before use or was it used straight from the box ? That might account for some of the variances of the paint flow.

I build military models fulltime and I airbrush at 20psi I spray mission models paint and mig products and AK paint. Should I spray at a higher air pressure. Higher pressure better

If you want quick coverage or your paint is too thick then turn the pressure up, for detailed work I overthink my paint and reduce the pressure to 15-20psi hope that helps 👍🏼👍🏼

Just started getting into customizing sneakers with brushes and now I would like to see how an airbrush system would work. I wanna get the Grex Genesis but I wanna get something cheaper 1st. Can you recommend a system for a beginner that works well? I'm looking to spend around 125 150$

I just got into airbrushing for my RC bodies and went and bought a bunch of Faskolor paints , TC20T compressor with tank from Amazon and 3 Master airbrushes and still having clogging problems,when you say one to one reducing is that like half and half? Like how much water or reducer should I put in the paint to be able to shoot it with no problems at between 25 to 40 psi?

Thanks for your comment it depends on what brand of paint you are using as well as the airbrush. For detail work using my iwata cm.sb micron I mix white at 30% paint with 70% reducer and reduce my psi to approx 15-20 for general airbrushing I generally mix at approx 1:1 ratio paint / reducer and run my pressure at 30-40psi, all these mixes are when using trident or Createx paints . Hope that helps 👍🏼

I just want to say thanks. I bought two expensive airbrushes for painting Warhammer miniatures. Now I think I probably could have gone cheap airbrushes. But the hobby I am in is not exactly conducive to cheap decisions. Hopefully my Iwata Brushes will be good for some more segmented painting and zenithal highlighting or overbrushing for dust and dirt effects.

I use to use those back around 10 years now, now im back to a rookie again. What do you recommend for one thats kinda easy to work with but within the test of time and a good one? I only build plastic model kits and i wont use it but maybe 1 time a month. I need your suggestion / and anyone that can help me please and thank you!

Buy a used Badger 150 they are the best you can fine for the most, it only will cost you about $50.00 complete . I have 5- of them an one Iwata top of the line airbrush I had the Iwata now for 5-years and haven't used it yet! There was no need to use it, the Badger 150s do the work I need to done and I am a detail artist. Good luck and keep on the airbrush track.

Not sure if it’s mentioned but one big difference between the super cheap (below $70ish)and the semi cheap($70+) is the Teflon gaskets which resist solvents much better than any cheaper alternative.

In my head, cheap was a minimum of 50$ for this kind of products, but damn, if I take a liking at making custom sneaker (with hope i can get it for canada)

I wished you would have tested them both at 20 psi also. That is where the differences between the two should really begin to show capability wise

Sure, you can try the cheap one from Amazon. I tried the $25 version and wasted my money. Valve wouldn't work right out of the box. Replace the valve? The only one I could find that would fit the body at a local shop (couldn't find one online) was $35... quality control is definitely crap with these low-enders and you have a very high chance of buying a paperweight.

Yes , that’s always a risk and I always recommend buying a quality brand if you can afford to do so, that said some people who may only use their airbrush once every now and then, for let’s say doing backgrounds or priming miniatures, then the cheap one is still a great way to give it a go to see if you are going to use it enough or like it and if so then keep that as a spare and grab a quality brush👍🏻

I have airbrush painted for over 20 years and bottom line if you want an airbrush that will last (durability) and perform well every time go with Iwata. I have used many of the others and if you want to go cheaper because you want to try it out then a cheap airbrush could be a fit. Cheap airbrushes also work fine if you rarely airbrush. With any airbrush though keep it clean and maintained or even the best ones will give you issues if you ignore them.

Yes I know my apologies , it was recorded a few years ago in our factory with a directional mic, we now use lavaleir mics in a smaller studio so you will notice much better sound quality. You mentioned that the cheaper model might work better once it gets broken in a little... How much better, if at all, do you think it would perform if you were to give the needle a really good polishing. I use the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS and it seems to me that it tends to perform better, if I occasionally polish the needle. That was a tip I heard about on a youtube video and I believe the guy said he used beeswax, but I can't remember for sure; however, he was suggesting it as a way to get a cheaper brush to perform more like a much more expensive model. I just use a spray lubricant such as WD-40, or Liquid Wrench. I spray a little onto a soft cotton rag and wipe the needle down and then polish it with a simple 3x5 notecard. I saw a video about how to care for an Iwata specifically and the guy suggested rubbing the needle on glass, but I have found the oil and notecard to a better job, at least for me. Anyway, I would just like to get your opinion. I would like to have another brush and I love the Iwata, but not the price.

I can't say I love the acoustics in this lavatory.

I did a review of the red airbrush. Google Don's airbrush tips if you're curious. Mine wouldn't spray until I reworked it. But, now it sprays OK. You are right, it doesn't do lines as fine as the Eclipse even though it has a smaller nozzle. Quality of these is hit or miss.

Have a look online for the 180k airbrush, yes it looks like it's a clone of the top of the line Iwata? See if it is any good. Also autosol metal polish on needles may solve some of the issues, do it carefully of course.

Did you tried using the same two airbrushes with some enamel or lacquer (using lacquer thinner)?. Otherwise is just a partial test. Main issue would be the inner seal... over the long run the cheaper brands gets affected by stronger solvents!

Cheap airbrushes can be fine if you're willing to buy 3-4 at the same time to guarantee a supply of replacement parts, otherwise I stick with branded. The last time I damaged an airbrush was doing temporary tattoos at a convention in a small town on a Saturday afternoon, I swapped brushes and was back up in 2 minutes so I could finish the day. Since I was using an Iwata I was able to get a replacement needle and nozzle at the Mom N Pop art supply store in town to get my main airbrush back in action for Sunday but with any other brand I would have been on pins and needles relying on my backup to not fail.

So now, in 2020, I'm interested in how it has held up compared to the Iwata 2 years later.

I play star wars legion do you think I could just get a cheap air brush to paint a surface primer on my storm troopers as in the long run air brushes are cheaper than spray cans

Yes most definitely this was the whole point of comparing the two brushes as the cheap one will be perfect to spray primers and backgrounds rather than spending big bucks on an airbrush that you may only use occasionally . It helps if you polish the needle and make sure it is clean. Airbrushes are not real complex and mostly the different price points are in quality controls at the factory. The detail work will be better with a well maintained airbrush whether it is a cheap or expensive one.

I have been using a red airbrush for some time now. His main problem is that he does not have a needle seal behind the paint container. With prolonged painting, this leads to the fact that the paint from the tank is blown to the trigger, dirtying the inside of the airbrush. And another problem with rubber seals, they are not resistant to aggressive solvents and chemicals. I bought this airbrush on sale for about $ 10, but still I continue to do most of the work with more expensive, albeit also Chinese, airbrush for $ 20.

Thanks for your comment and your info re: the red airbrush. I agree, I think most of the Chinese brushes are basically a ‘lucky dip’ all in all the majority of the cheaper brushes are really only going to serve a basic purpose ie, adding basic shading, base colour and or backgrounds that said this may be enough for some people but I would recommend saving and spending the money on a name brand once you know that the airbrush is something that you will use long term. I am planning on doing an artwork with the red airbrush to show that it could still produce artwork 👍🏻😉

it would help alot to polish that needle on the cheeper one those needles are rough try the polishing compound and see if it doesnt come out smoother
