    holy crap, I have watched a million air brush videos on youtube trying to get better, and not one I had watched mentioned tip #2, keep the airflow constant, makes total sense and was an ah-ha moment for me, thank you sir

    I've heard of keeping the air constant and the only change is the pull back for paint.

    I just purchased my second aribrush set from amazon for $70 all together and I never realized I was so good at using an airbrush for painting on paper. To calrify: I bought a Testors airbrush that attached to a can of compressed air and used it primarily to paint model cars so I could use any acrylic paint that I found at discount stores, which works when properly thinned. I also used to draw quite a bit in my youth and all but stopped since graduating university. I purchased a new system online so I could use Spectra Color brand paints , which are airbrush only, because I love the color pallet they have. I am now painting scale 1:18 model kits of old era vehicles with Spectra Flame, recreating Matchbox Cars from the 1960's and the 1970's era. I am not sure if I can pull off a Robin Williams, but I do know that I can give The Dark Knight one hell of a go!

    Hi, I'm about to start my airbrush journey and using a basic Airbrush unit to see if ai take to it (Timbertech ABPSTO6 with the Compressor Piston). Amazing work by the way.. My questions are, 1)How do you clean your airbrush out before adding a new paint colour. 2)The Wheel that you show, do all airbrush paint suppliers have a wheel of colour? If so how do you get it, I'd asume from their website. 4)If you have to release the air, would you hit a rubbish side piece first and then go to your work? (Like the sheet next to your work you hit with paint, and then paint. 5)How do you make those stencils you use (like the Death in the woods one, where you hit it with white to show cloud fornation)? 6)Is there a site to get those stencils or is it easier to make your own? Thank you in Kind. 7)If using AcrylicPaint, do you start dark or light in your colour. So do you paint like oils on canvas or water colour to water paper principles. Love your work.. Adie UK, Doncaster.

    Hi Mick as a first timer to the world of airbrushing can you recommend a setup, compressor and airbrush wise as there are so many out there, I’m starting out on model aircraft

  • @mickeyracer

    @mickeyracer

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Steve Its always best to try to spend a little more when buying a setup. Pretty much any compressor will do the job if it has a tank, if noise is an issue or you need a silent one prices tend to hike a little. Bambi compressors are very quiet but can be pricey but they are great compressors. As for airbrushes, ive always used iwata airbrushes, IMO keep away from iwata NEO airbrushes though. I can recommend the iwata eclipse CS great for pretty much any paint.

  • @mickeyracer

    Yes although if using high end acrylics like createx there is no need to, i generally like a satin finish to airbrushed canvas and use windsor and newton satin spray varnish. Multiple medium coats rather than heavy wet ones

    Yes, anything airbourne that we can breath in is not good for us, although wearing a full mask for airbrushing is not always comfortable or asthetically pleasing, good ventilation i would say is a must for our own health and safety

    How many water separators do you use? Can you eliminate all the moisture that gets in the line? Great video and very informative! Thanks for sharing.

    Hey Derek I generally use 2, one on the compressor and an additional one bench mounted, this also allows me to handle the airpressure easily if needed, i dont tend to use the inline little ones that attach to the airbrush as i find them a bit clumbsy and get in the way Thanks Mick

    Is it normal for compressor to drop from initial bar settings ? For example, before spraying I set it on 20 - and right when I press the air action, it drops to 10-12 and stays on it. Is this normal behavior ?

    i find flow improver works well to reduce tip dry.

    I use E'tac paints, less tip dry to begin with vs. all other water based paints I've tried in 40 years of airbrushing. E'tac has their own flow improver (Condition-air) that I add a few drops of to my bottle of water that I use to thin or reduce my paint before airbrushing. I've also modded the crown caps of my Olympos MP-200C Microns by removing two (opposite each other) of the four points, essentially making them exactly like the crown caps of the Harder Steenbeck Infinity. Thus I can paint with the crown cap on and still achieve the same fine lines I got when removing the cap.....yet I don't risk damaging my needle tip nor do I ever lose my crown cap.

    Smaller compressor owner here. Running the air all the time just isn't practical, so I've found a good technique is to always do the following sequence: Air on, paint on, paint off, air off. Basically, don't just release the trigger when you're done with a stroke, make sure the trigger is all the way forward before stopping the air.

    I have a few airbrushes. Need to knock the dust off them and learn how to use it. I enjoyed this tutorial
