    I'm a mixed media artist, who was given an airbrush and compressor almost a decade ago--birthday gift. Through years of trial-and-error, I struggled. Always using water-based paints. I did three large automotive projects (all with HOK) and LOVED MY RESULTS! So did my clients. I had loads of people contacting me to do motorcycle helmets and tanks but I turned down the business because I was afraid of my capabilities and experiences with water-based paints. I thought I had merely been lucky, or the humidity was just right, or all the planets were in alignment when I did the automotive projects. I gave up on myself and NEVER figured out the correlation between the urethane and the ease of the projects. Once I returned to water-based paints... clogs, tip dry, etc.... started back up again. I burnt out trying to make the kind of art I always wanted to make with an airbrush. Mine is the fine detail brush used in this video, by the way. Today, with much trepidation, I worked up the nerve to get back to work with my airbrush. A skull project, as well! THIS IS THE VIDEO I NEEDED 10 YEARS AGO!!! This video was literally waiting for me when I opened up my KZread page! As if, the airbrush gods knew I was logging in to go back to school. My friend... your skillset is obviously brilliant! The information you shared within this video has got me completely jacked and ready to start spraying again! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! For every single priceless tidbit of information, you shared with us in this production. I could not be happier that I found this video! I gave you a thumbs up! And subscribed! You are now my ultimate go-to guy, for all my airbrushing needs. This one video is like a crash course in getting it right and KILLING all that downtime with water-based paints. I just moved to a beachfront community. There are NO airbrush artists for at least 50 miles in any direction. I've looked. I have already been asked to spray. Now, I can fill those orders and do some things I have always wanted to do. You changed things for me with this video. I can't express that enough. Thank you

    I’ve watch so many videos. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you breaking down the ratios you’re mixing, the airbrushes you use, the paint you use, the texts you put on the screen to help me write it down. I ran into spiderwebbing black paint and didn’t have a clue what may have been the problem. I subscribed. Hopefully this will help me get better at finer details.

  • @humbleheretic

    @humbleheretic

    6 жыл бұрын

    I was working with Wicked colors before i made the switch to HOK. Like i mentioned in the video i prefer urethane based paints over water based because they mix and clean more easily and dry faster since i like to thin my paints so much. When i was using them i would reduce with rubbing alcohol because it acts as a fast reducer. But overall i don’t dislike that product line. It’s all a matter of personal preference. I always recommend trying different things for yourself to discover what you like best.

    "even if you work with waterbased paint" sorry to interrupt but it is "ESPECIALLY if you use water based paint" the thing is in your loung the water based paint does not dry up like thinner based paint. while both paints do permanent damage to your loung the water based paint causes more damage over time. so always use your masks :D also AWESOME tutorial

    How much Airbrush reducer/extender should I put in my sprayer.. Plus I put tephalon tape on all threads n I seem to still get water coming out of my nozzle.. What better tips can I use to stop this from happening?

  • @humbleheretic

    @humbleheretic

    I'm assuming you're referring to an airbrush and not an HVLP "sprayer". If so they make water filers that screw on the bottom of your airbrush, but if you're working in a high humidity environment sometimes if you airbrushing for extended periods of time this can still become problematic especially when using urethane based paints as they do not mix with water. I have found a method that typically works well for me hen this happens. I have my compressor hooked up to a split line device for using multiple airbrushes off the same line. I'd suggest purchasing an air hose splitter and bleed one of the lines just a hair to prevent moisture from accumulating over time. You might have to increase the pressure on your compressor to compensate for the small leak but it's worked well for me and has likely saved me from many costly mistakes.
