Tim nailed it AWESOME. I don't know where but when this happened I distinctly remember George Strait saying to the audience " Tim glad I got that before you did" implying he more than approved of Tim's cover. Can anyone remember that too?

How nerve racking it must be to sing a song by a great artist and have them sitting there while you sing it. Must be an amazing feeling.

It’s sad that people are always saying an artist or a song is underrated. If Marina Del Ray was underrated then it would not make it to number 6 on the U.S. country charts and number 2 Canada. I hate it when people say what I am going to say but it really needs to happen. Before anyone says an artist or a song is underrated look u the information first. If you do not do that then you make yourself nutty. I know you do not want that to happen. By the way Kenny Chesney also sang this and it’s on the When the Sun Goes Down album.

Oh good grief now you are going to turn my comment into drama. There is no reason to do that. I was not upset. I was pointing out facts. Close to every artist and/or every song has been called underrated. People really need to stop being so dramatic. Songs and/or artists do not have to be #1 to be recognized. True underrated songs do not hit the charts or they do hit the charts but do not make it to the top 40s. Those songs are never played on the radio. There are several songs out there that should have hit number one but they did not, however, they made it close to number one. Yes Marina Del Ray should have made it to number 1 but it did not. Not making it to number one does Not make it underrated. When someone says it was underrated people think that the songs were not played enough so people do not recognize them. People did and still do recognize Marina Del Ray George has 44 number one hits. He has 126 singles which 14 of them did not reach the top ten, yet he has the most top 10 songs than any other country music artist. You could say all his top ten songs should have made it to number one. The songs that did not make it to the top ten should have made it there and they should have made it to number one. Not every song someone sings will make it to number one no matter how often it is played. Marina del rey was recognized to make it the top 6 here in the US and number two in Canada. Considering it was on his second album that went certified platinum and the album made it to number 18 on the top country albums, it made all the songs more recognizable. There are other songs that should have made it to number one but they did not yet people know them. I was a teenager when Marina Del Rey came out and I remember it was played a lot along with other songs. So there you have it. Again stop twisting my comments into drama

Did you notice HOW MUCH Strait and Mrs. Straight appreciated this version? Just look at both their faces, no words needed. I don't know if the Strait's enjoyed any other performance that night, quite as much. Maybe they did, I don't know, but for me, this was THE performance of the night.

That was a great night, the CMS salute to George Strait--there were so many good moments, but I think this one remains my favorite from the evening. Martina McBride did a great job--so did Jaime Fox for that matter, not sure who would take top honors for the evening, but this one is my favorite. You could see Strait and his wife (by the look on their faces) really enjoyed his take on this great song.

I kinda feel like everyone else didn't want to show up George, and then Tim was like, screw that, and dropped this beautiful cover.

+Briandl1979 Disagree, he sang this to honor Strait, but he can't hide who and what he is, nor should he try. Just my two cents. Look at the face of Strait's wife, you could tell she fully understood what McGraw was-and was not trying to do.

My mom is obsessed with this song. And the way tim sings it.

Later in that show, if you saw the entire show, he said something in reference to the many artists who performed his songs that night "and THAT singin--it was so good" Strait seems a decent, good man. Re. Tim, he and his wife both amaze me; in regard to his wife, McGraw is on youtube right now talking about her, pretty nice to hear what he has to say about her. And her story of how she found McGraw is also pretty inspiring--finding him talking to a bunch of kids and realizing he was as kind as he comes across on stage. Good stuff for sure. Why some people try to run him down--I don't have a clue, other than maybe sour grapes. I offer as evidence that women almost never have a negative word to say, but some men do.

I was lucky enough to attend this tribute and Tim did a great job on this song. I have loved George since this song first was on the radio and it's the first song I ever heard him sing. Tim has a great respect for George and I have seen this at concerts I have attended when they toured together.
