Tiger 900 Rally Pro - 18k Mile Review (My BIGGEST Gripe)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Several of features on the Tiger 900 Rally Pro that I like, dislike, or would like to see improved. This is not a complete list of positives and negatives, but should provide a few points to consider if you are in the market for a new bike; or, like me, just like to watch motorcycle videos about a bike you already bought!
Over 18,000 miles of pure enjoyment have taken me to Death Valley, CABDR, Lost Coast, Six Rivers BDT, Mendocino BDT, and many more miles in the El Dorado NF, Tahoe NF, and many more. I have been stuck and "rescued" many times and have come away with great stories and memories I'll never forget. Riding an Adventure bike has been one of the most positive experiences in my life. I hope you all enjoy the video and seek out your own adventures.
Cheers!

    The bars are a big issue, I have dropped my RP & bent the bars in, luckily it never done any damage to the upper end of the bike but it was close and had to bend them back out again, the new style have the extra bar going across to where you have pointed out, the hand guards are a joke, I now have Barkbusters installed due to breaking a lever when I dropped the bike, these make the bike look even better, I have since installed new Puig levers, the triumph OEM are a nightmare to remove the bushes for just a lever change, had my RP since July last year & done 4100 glorious happy miles, doing a lot more this year to the North of Scotland to a place called Skye in May, then down to England to the Adventure Bike Festival in Warwickshire & few Moto camps in between, thanks for the videos, very informative & put together great, ride safe, all the best...... We're all brave to buy Triumph as it inevitably does shake itself apart - a healthy amount of patience and money must be set aside for the middle life of these bikes. My biggest gripe though is the lockdown of the service manual combined with the apple-like lockdown of "service needs to be done by certified dealer and details updated with us" idea. As you mentioned - no updates come along to say drop that mode-change behaviour. All this adds up to a pretty user-hostile product. It is only a great product until it leaves the shop - after that you are only of interest as you choose to go back for original farkle or "certified service". I still love mine (got a 900 GT) and will drive it till one of us is dust...

    Didn't even mention the craptastic wind deflectors at the hand controls. I won't call them brush guards. Barkbuster replacements are a must if your going to be doing anything challenging. I'd like Triumph to reflash the actual display and give it a real tachometer. The disco bars are neat for about a minute, then pretty useless after the novelty wears off. I have a '20 Rally (non-Pro), so I got to avoid the disappointment in the "skid plate" and lower protections. I bought it for a mission, the CO-BDR in '21, and it did it very well. I'm keeping it around for more ADV style missions. So the occasional gravel rally, and some light off-roading. It's been fun, and an ongoing education.

Bad enough you have 1 side of that hideous tach meter, but then they duplicate it on the other side?? And don't get me started on the Odometer. You have to toggle through submenu's of screens to find it. And it's only available on 2 out of the 4 screen themes! It would be nice to have a regular tach gauge, or when you choose the numerical value one, it gets rid of the 2 graph ones and can then put useful information in it's place. But no, you then end up with THREE tachometers on one screen!!

    Dealers are by far the biggest problem in central Texas...only 2 of them (owned by the same people) covering several million population (3+ million) and they are very underwhelming on almost every thing that counts. They do not even stock clutch cables! Forget about getting anything done quickly and you will pay DEARLY for anything they do. Triumph deciding to not let the customer clear off pesky basic maintenance reminders is definitely the WRONG direction for me to consider another Triumph. Love the bike, just not the very spartan and costly support. Triumph, remember the average customer in the USA hates it when you design things this way. I shouldn't have to be forced to either pay HUNDREDS of dollars OR buy a dongle and depend on "hackers" to reset an oil change reminder!!! That's ridiculous! As a former tech I trust my hands/skills over ANY mechanic that it is still alive that I've met. When I can't do everything that's very basic, that's a big negative! Change this mindset Triumph and you'll gain more loyalty.

    I agree. It’s always been a big concern of mine when traveling anywhere outside of my local area where I’m lucky enough to have two Triumph dealers. HOWEVER, they never have parts and always tell me it has to be ordered in… it’s hard to claim that the bike is great for traveling the world when you can’t even service or repair the bike within your own state. I see brands like Honda, KTM, Husqvarna, Yamaha, etc. in pretty much every town I go through or at least close enough that any emergency/regular maintenance that’s needed I can get parts for or at least have them fix. In all honesty, I may not sell this bike, but I won’t be buying another one.

    @@BlueADV214 Lack of Dealership presence: It really is more of an issue than perhaps Triumph Holdings UK Inc. knows or cares but so many of my riding friends (new and old) just LOVE the Tiger but when they finally go and try to get one they find out the things we just discussed and they choose a different brand altogether. This relegates them (Triumph) to a niche brand and maybe they are ok with that. I really don't see the 2 dealerships I know about (I only found a total of 11 in the entire state of Texas!) staying in business with just Triumph brand under their roof. I guess that's why they ALL are multi-brand Euro machines. To be fair so are the Japanese now BUT at least triple the number of those dealers. And when you add a LOT of internet shops that actually stock the important things stateside, I can count on one hand the internet parts sources for Triumph (so far only 2!). I'd love to see Triumph realize this and make good changes to make these issues seem paltry. {crossing fingers}
