    Did this on my 1250gs, and it wasn't easy(from winton rd to Mokelumne River)! When i got to the bottom of the hill though, the gates were locked by the campgrounds. We got a bit turned around at the top, and accidentally bypassed the barricades on a bypass trail. Pretty sure the trail is still closed.

    There is no possible way to measure exhaust valve clearances with stright gap gauge. I ended up doing the service myself, and i assure you, that friction and tension of the straight gap gauge inserted into exhaust valve clearance with some angle, will cause incorrect values result. You need curved gap gauges. Also, please remember to oil your o-rings, especially the one in chain tensioner. I just wasted the new one because i didn't do it. That's probably the basic knowledge that every mechanic have, but i guess the audience of this video are people like me, that are not experienced, and missing information like that may result in job failure.

    @@BlueADV214 thank you very much for your video, it gave me courage to do it myself, but I feel like the hardest part - measuring valve clearances was skipped. Sorry, I don't know the diameter of the tool. As to the bushings, they only need to be replaced if worn beyond a certain point... but having to leave the fork apart while you order them isn't ideal, and having them just in case is also sort of a waste when they are so cheap and the fork is already apart. In my opinion, I would just make replacing them a part of the fork refresh, especially if I planned on keeping the motorcycle.

    What a great design to do the valve shimcs. Not too complex and room to get in. Its a far better bike in the real world to work on yourself and has to be the king of middleweight adventure bikes. Those engines are good for well over 100k miles and is probably the best triple out there and very strong as it seems to share the same crank specs as the daytona 675 but detuned by one third on the bhp but with more low down torque. I had a 1996 daytona 900 and i really loved the torque of that motor. These tiger 800s are far better with a better sprag clutch, more reliable engine. What a great bike.

    Can you use this to unlock some more HP and perhaps fuel economy. (For one year of ownership Im getting 38 mpg (2023 900 RP) while most everybody else getting about 50mpg. • @BlueADV214
    @BlueADV2145 ай бұрын

    Sounds like it may be something to talk to the dealership about. I don't know anything about editing fuel/air maps and would refer that to a shop with a dynamometer and specialized equipment/training. And any increase in HP usually comes at the expense of MPG... just saying. In my opinion, the bike doesn't need more HP; it needs more torque on the ground and less weight overall. The weight of the bike/rider/luggage/etc. is all going to that little contact point on the rear tire and for off-road, that's a small area that the tire just spins on without more torque and tire contact (tread dependent). I would gladly take this bike with half the cc's... A Tiger 450 or 500 with a slightly smaller fuel tank would be awesome.

    We're all brave to buy Triumph as it inevitably does shake itself apart - a healthy amount of patience and money must be set aside for the middle life of these bikes. My biggest gripe though is the lockdown of the service manual combined with the apple-like lockdown of "service needs to be done by certified dealer and details updated with us" idea. As you mentioned - no updates come along to say drop that mode-change behaviour. All this adds up to a pretty user-hostile product. It is only a great product until it leaves the shop - after that you are only of interest as you choose to go back for original farkle or "certified service". I still love mine (got a 900 GT) and will drive it till one of us is dust...
