Good stuff! But then I realized this video was shot in ONE TAKE -- no editing. That's when I realized these guys are REALLY good. No fancy 32-track, autotune, computer effects laden video. Just plain old fashion ass kicking music.

To anyone complaining saying he's playing the banjo the wrong way, Jimi Hendrix played guitar the wrong way. He didn't know scales or chord progressions, he just knew what sounded good. Hell he even used a violin bow to play it once or twice. So stop bitching. The best at what they do often do it unconventionally.
@CivilEngineerWroxton

Long as it sounds good, there IS no wrong way. Just play what your mind and heart and talent call for. This guy playing that 5-string with a guitar pick is actually pure genius. I am a banjo player myself and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.
@SpyderWebbArt
8 жыл бұрын
+Al Scarbrough any clue how he's got that 'jo tuned?
@CivilEngineerWroxton
8 жыл бұрын
Spyder Webb From what I can tell, he's definitely got it tuned a key lower than what it normally would be. The truncated G string I don't see him plucking any so that string is out of the playing, so the main four strings are what he is using. The longer G string is definitely tuned to a lower key and the rest are the same. It shows this guy is a genius when it comes to tweaking it to just what he wants and needs. It also shows he has spent a lot of time tinkering and figuring out those tweaks and derivations from the normal. He is incredibly talented with that 'jo and it would be very interesting to just sit down and have him show me a thing or two. His skill level is MUCH above mine.

I clicked on this video, not knowing what to expect. Opening scene: a Massey Ferguson, a man comes in on a Stiga lawnmover. I start fearing for the worst. Someone starts playing the banjo - superbly. The singer strikes an anvil. I start tapping my feel. I like where it's going. The accordion comes on. I'm grinning and nodding my head. So great!

That Banjo Player Makes That Instrument Sing On Its Own. Y'all Are Awesome ❤
@RussellBond-dk6dj
4 ай бұрын
Real deal Mr McGill those guys are slicker than a baloney sandwich with mayonnaise in hot weather. And yes that fellow makes the banjo strings sing He's the Hendrix of bluegill covers of rock and I'm of my other favorite banjo pickers who is a artist herself say he does thing with a banjo she can't touch her name is Mary Ann but everyone else knows her as Mean Mary and her fast banjo. I love the bass player also the way he'll change between numbers from gut to bull bass shows how versatile he is. Hell their all talented and I'd love to get asked to set down and jam for a bit.
I new these guys were gonna rock it when the accordion player, possibly drunk, showed up late on a field mower, and the banjo player started strumming. Wonderful cover.

As a dark-skinned American, I became a Hippie in the 70s; but I fell in love with Bluegrass while locked up in the 90s, unable to get a clear reception on a AM radio. It started on Sunday: good preaching, good gospel music... but apart from the normal music, they were jammin' with a lot of RNB, HipHop and Rock! I was blown away with the sound, as well as with the music itself. I was like... 'what have I been missing...' and claimed to be a musician. Ya'll need to get into Bluegrass, baby! Peace

No way. Not in a million years would I have thought that I'd be blown away by how you played the song. I mean come on; the choice of instruments played - an anvil, spoons, mandolin, banjo, accordion, and bass - gave me pause. This is flippin' awesome!!!!!
