Today, as I was walking down the street (I live in NYC), I heard this lovely music coming from a guy's parked car...he had his window open. I stopped to listen. I loved it so much that I asked him "What band is this?" He replied "They are from Russia." The driver was actually playing this very video on his iphone and showed it to me. I copied down the name Otavio Yo....and here I am. So glad I found this. Wonderful music!

I listen to a lot of Отава Ё and like a bunch of their songs. I don't speak Russian and wanted to learn what they were saying in this song. It took me about six hours to learn the lyrics. At least now I can sing the words, not perfect, but still fun. Love from the U.S.A.

Just like any other group of people across the world, you're gonna have bad apples in that group. That does not mean everyone in that group reflects the same values. There is no reason to cast aside an entire culture and their heritage just because of those bad apples. But, that is unfortunately what is happening here in America. Die Russen müsten es irgendwie schaffen Putin los zu werden. Natürlich wird es wie in jeder Demokratie schwierig sein einen passenden Staatsoberhaupt zu finden. Aber Putin verarscht sein Volk. Putin warnt und er errinnert immer an den großen Vaterländischen Krieg. Ein Krieg, in dem die Sowietunion mit ein Anteil unter allen Umstände gesiegt😮😮 hatte. Im a Tennessee fiddle player(violin) and you almost perfectly captured and reproduced our folk culture 100 years ago in Tennessee and Kentucky and West Virginia (USA Appalachian States or "provinces" within the US- we do not have provinces). You even showed a Drum by REMO- the Russian hats and overall wholesomeness from the 1950s immediately made me wake up and pay attention; you are simply dancing in a circle, with folk music, fun- the way we did here 1800s-middle 1900s before Elvis, Beatles, modern country music.

Luv it! Tho I just discovered ' THE HU band',(so listening to accoustic, and metal versions of their songs in words I dont know either) I hadnt checked in on these great folks in a while! Such contrast from Mongolian(wolf totem is pretty cool) , to these musicians! Luv em both : ) Bright 2020 to All!

This is my son's favourite song, when it's on 9 out of 10 times he'll stop crying. He's half English half Russian and 10 months old today. I've been playing it to him since he was born. Just put it on and he came crawling from the next room as soon as he heard the first notes :)

My daughter is two and half yo, and she loves their songs too! I don't even know how we found this band but this was the first song we saw and instantly fell in love with. Fantastic energy and joyful, funny videos. We watch and listen and dance to it every day these days

Do you see similarities between this and Appalachian folk music? I’m from the Midwest and they always gave me southern US/ Appalachian vibes but I never knew if that was accurate or not

@@Jenninka There's definitely some parallels in comparison. It's not what it was in my grandparents time but the culture is still very much alive. I play guitar and banjo pretty frequently and a lot of people from where I grew up still come together to play.

Отава Ё (ота́ва meaning "aftergrass" and ё is a very weird letter in the Russian alphabet) is a Russian folk rock band from Saint Petersburg, formed in 2003. Alexey Belkin, Alexey Skosyrev, Dmitriy Shikhardin, and Peter Sergeev worked together as buskers on the streets of St. Petersburg for about three years. The positive feedback from the listeners inspired them to officially form a band in 2003. Of the initial members, only Shikhardin, fiddle player, had formal musical education; the rest were self-taught. Initially the band was called Reelroadъ and they played The Pogues-styled Celtic punk, but later changed their name to Otava Yo and turned to Russian traditional music.

Initially Otava Yo was a part of Reelroadъ as a busking band. Reelroadъ was a big team of great musicians and they played folk music from all over the world (and from Russia too). Their 2001 debut CD was recorded by an 11 member line-up including Australian didgeridoo player. Then they recorded 3 more discs. You can find some of these songs on KZread. Most of the musicians of Otava Yo took part in this recordings.

Never saw them before today, so I thought their name was Finnish! Otava is the name of the star formation Big Dipper, and yö =night, in Finnish. And they were using the vihta, a bunch of birch leaves, with which we beat our backs in sauna. If this band is from Saint Petersburg, they could very well have some relation to Karelia where my mother comes from! Really great music and dancing! Greetings from the U.S.

К сожалению, только сегодня удалось снова прослушать этот шедевр русского народного творчества. Прошу снисходительного прощения от всех комментаторов, кто отозвался на изложенное мной мнение о посредственном, смею высказать, даже непосредственном, контакте славян/русских с моей нацией. Действительно, у нас, венгров, с вами, славянами/русскими многовековое соседство было даже после обретения ними и поныне существующей родины в карпатском бассейне. Тем комментаторам, кто не понял мое высказывание относительно "вопреки кажущемуся в этом клипе низкопоклорнничеству" обьясню. Мне кажется, что постоянное представление русского народа в ушастых шапках,т полу/или полностью пьяных наносит вред русской нации и подчеркивает нарратив западного мира и неполноценности русской нации. Вам нужно гордиться созданной за тысячелетие той цивилизапцией, которая никогда до сих пор не преклонялась перед внешним угрозами ее уничтожения. Вы оригинальны и неповторимы.
