Throwing Knives - How To Make Throwing Knives - Knife Making
How to make throwing knives out of files. I made one throwing knife out of a file way I wanted it to be and then made two more throwing knives exactly the same. Using the first throwing knife as a template so I made a set of throwing knives. I used the stock removal method of knife making to make custom knives. How to make a file knife

Three very great knives. Also the w1 tool steel is the good material to make knives, especially the old kind.

Friend, You seem to have a great many old files on hand. I was taught to treat my files as Holy Objects. My 7th and 8th grade shop teacher used to say that more people will Fail to get into Paradise because they didn't carefully clean and card their files before putting them away, than for any other single reason. When I finally got to take some machining courses a couple or three decades later, I was shocked to see how casually some metal workers treat their files. I was also shocked to find that heavily used files are a consumable item-though that's no reason to mistreat them. Still, I imagine the purpose-driven could find beaucoup worn out and/or rusty files of a few bucks at yard sales. …..RVM45 PS: I've often wondered if it is possible to make a fast-opening, folding throwing knife. No, I don't imagine that it would be terribly useful. I just wonder if it can be done. If anyone could figure it out, then you probably could. I imagine the act of hitting the target would really stress the blade-pin...

Really nice knives. What color did you end up getting after you tempered them? I couldn't really see was it blue or gray? Either way good thing you did, it'll help them from snapping

You want to get a golden or wheat color. To be safe you could go slightly farther to emsure bend over a break.

CoGhostRider when you anneal them it releases all the stress and the metal making it softer and better to work with, rather than a hard brittle material. When it's hard and brittle you have to use stronger tools, the file was meant to file down other metals which was why it was hardened in the first place.

Mk Mk but he did it after he had already had them cut to shape and as sharp as he needed them. Unless he didn't want to harden them as hard as they were.

So they are not too brittle as files are. Throwing would break them.

He temoered them woth the torches. This softens them enough to withstand the impact. I use rasps amd files to make throwers and live edge edc knives. Similar but slightly different processes
