Thoughts on the X1 Nano Gen 2 after over a month

Ғылым және технология

I picked up an X1 Nano G2 a couple of almost two months ago and have finally decided to share some of my thoughts on it. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for the review. I purchased an x1 carbon gen 9 and got to try the x1 nano gen 1. I will be returning my X1 carbon and getting the nano gen 2.

@@Arbiter946 i returned the nano gen 2. It was having serious thermal issues and loud fans. I had the maxed out spec model. I now have a Nano gen 1 , X1C gen 9, T14 gen 3 amd. All great laptops. If you’re in the market for a nano I would recommend gen 1.

I've got a Nano 2 and have 3 things to criticize. The first is that the battery life is generally poor. I've got the I7-1280 though, so perhaps a less demanding CPU would help. The second is the heat. This is especially noticeable above the W and E keys (which happens to be above the SSD). This does not have any sort of heat pipes internally so I expect that's the root cause. Finally the SSD is funky. First it's not a standard SSD. It only has chips on one side and if you want to upgrade or get a backup drive you need to be sure that it's only 1 sided. Next is that despite Lenovo claiming that it's a Gen 4 SSD, it's not performing at Gen 4 speeds. I've watched you tubers measuring the performance and they also noticed this. It's running at Gen 3 speeds (when tested with CrystalMark). Same issue with mine. I guess another nit is that the keyboard is nice, but it's nowhere near as good as all the thinkpads i've owned over the last decade or two.

One more thing to tack onto this is, if you are running an external High Resolution monitor, that once you unplug the monitor your laptop screen will flicker. Its very subtle, but once you notice it will drive you nuts.

Hi Andy, I'm trying to decide between this and Carbon X1. I thought due to the higher resolution and lower screen size 150% scaling would be perfect for this, and actually I was looking forward to using 150% since it would match what I use with my external 4K displays. But you say 150% is slightly too large? Do you have any screenshots anywhere showing this at 150%, or does your review video use it at 150%?

Good review. I know the x1 line is intel only and while the z13 has amd its quite a bit heavier with its aluminum build. My lame dream is for lenovo to make a thinkpad nano sized machine like the msi prestige 13 evo- big battery, more ports, but thinkpad keyboard and build and a amd 7x4x class cpu.

bought x1 nano gen 1. Selling my x1 carbon gen 10. Nano is excellent. Carbon is outdated on conseptual level. as ultraportable It too heavy to carry it all day everywhere and has too small display to ""work" on it (especialy irrelevan resolutions for taht size - 2k and 4k instead of 2,5k) and the same real live performance as nano. I skip nano gen 2 - my experience with "p" silicons on gen10 carbon is terrible. Ant heavier than gen1 nano
