This was the biggest risk we’ve taken, here are the results | ZOE METHOD Study

Ғылым және технология

Two and a half years ago, we began a randomised controlled trial to put ZOE to the test.
We registered the study as a clinical trial, meaning whatever the results, we had to publish them.
This is a standard of scientific rigour rarely seen in nutrition or wellness but as a science-first company, we decided to put ZOE to the test.
Our results show what thousands of members already tell us: ZOE works.
As published in the world’s leading peer-reviewed journal, Nature Medicine (or as Dr Sarah Berry puts it ‘the Oscars of science!’).
Compared to a control group following generalised dietary advice, those doing ZOE saw larger reductions in blood fat, body weight, and waist size. They had better blood sugar control, and increased their ‘good’ gut bacteria.
Crucially, those doing ZOE felt better. They were twice as likely to report improved mood and less hunger and four times more likely to report better sleep and more energy than the control group.
The more closely participants followed ZOE advice, the better they felt and the more they improved their weight and cholesterol, associated with a lower risk for heart disease and diabetes.
At ZOE, we’ve always believed that you can transform your health by making the smartest food choices for you. And we’re so thrilled to share the science that proves it.

Yes me too and I keep sharing your podcasts with friends spreading the word about ZOE here in Australia. Whilst I would love to have access to the personal test results I have benefited from listening to all the great interviews and reading many of the books that this has lead me to. Changing my breakfast to the Tim Spector standard and recognizing that I'm likely one of the many people who have the blood sugar spikes and crashes has been very beneficial. Keep up your great work.

I live in Canada and have followed the development of ZOE since documentaries on twin studies several years ago. The money to pay for all the research has to come from somewhere. The large amount of research data from the Zoe program is invaluable and is made possible in part by providing a personalized lifetime healthy eating plan for a not unreasonable fee. The information they learn from their studies is shared in their podcasts, and scientific papers available to the public for free. I think it is brilliant and I can't wait for my personalized program to be available here in Canada. Thank you Zoe Team!

I started on the study in January and have slowly been adjusting to the whole regime and tests. I have been pretty methodical in recording my daily diet. Bottom line is I started to move out of 'just in pre diabetes' to lower glucose scores and won't know till I have a blood test BUT I no longer get any glucose spikes, have consistently good energy at 66, eat a very varied and fun diet. Basically I feel really well and also have no colitis flares - another reason for doing it. For me it's been quite slow and subtle but I love the results and being part of a scientific study that is helping us understand health mgt better.

Would love if they could apply theirs excellent evidence based approach to a variety of different dietary needs and issues, ask it's really impossible to get proper decent scientifically backed advice on how to be a super healthy diet person within the confines of various gut conditions crohns for example, there's a no evidence at all. It leaves people with trial and error and wondering which way to go to help us be the best versions of ourselves.

2 issues I have with Zoe is… (1) that it doesn’t take into consideration any genetic methylation deficiencies that we are all born with therefore not knowing what supplementation to take to supplement these deficiency. (2) There are specific minerals that you cannot get unless you eat meat so to simply say go on a plant -based vegan diet there is science to prove otherwise I don’t think Zoe is balanced enough in these two areas supplementation for deficiency and accessing enough nutrients/minerals via plant base diets.

We look at health measures beyond the number on the scale, like your blood sugar and blood fat control, and your gut microbiome. Our approach focuses on the quality of food and nourishing your body while keeping you full and satisfied, and that’s why 70% of our members say ZOE is a more sustainable way of eating than dieting. We don’t tell you what you can and cannot eat, and we don’t count calories. Instead, we teach you how to add different foods to your meals so that you can work with your biology, instead of against it. Our tests tells us which foods your body and gut microbes love, and we encourage you to add more of the 'good stuff', rather than removing foods from your diet.

When do you ever hear Zoe talking about the benefits of eating meat, especially organic grass fed meat? When do you ever hear or watch a video where they say eating meat provides certain amino acids and nutrients that our body requires they never talk about this but yet they constantly talk about a plant-based diet? There’s no consideration for deficiencies that you naturally have relevant to methylation. I’m not against ZOE but there is a bias towards conditioning us towards not eating meat. Would be great if there were a few collaboration videos with Dr Gabriel Lyon, Gary Becka or Peter Attia to bring more balance to the nutritional conversation instead of guests who come on and promote a vegan pathway.

It almost doesn't matter that people spend a fortune to find out stuff that could be either irrelevant or at best of marginal importance. What really matters is that we can see that marketing still works. People don't have to be sold high quality, reliable or even useful products. Anyone who says that has been sleeping.
