Vandana Shiva is almost singlehandedly responsible for the government of Indonesia banning pesticide use - which led to millions of people suffering starvation. If you look into her at all beyond this video, you will find that in virtually everything she discusses she has no idea what she is talking about. She understands almost nothing about the reality of the type of large scale agriculture that is actually required to feed the huge and growing human population. While her claims of being an environmentalist sound good, in reality she is a science denying hypocrite who wants to take farming practices back to the middle ages (she has advocated for using no automation at all, not even things like tractors) - you can see how well that worked out for Indonesia. She romanticizes the past and ignores the scientific evidence related to modern safe and sustainable farming practices. Monsanto is evil because of their business practices, not because of their technology. I encourage everyone to watch Myles Powers' videos about her; they will be eye opening for you.

Other countries use seed banks and vaults to preserve samples of every plant ever grown. If your country did not do that it is your own fault. Golden rice is designed to be crossed with the local varieties you prefer, it is never just planted as-is. The more I post facts, the more you asshole haters are exposed. Ignorance is a curable disease. Fact - most Indian rice strains were low yield. Fact - most Indian rice strains had little resistance to disease, salty water or pests. Fact - GMO rice strains are now available to thrive in salty waters, temperature extremes, drought and shorter growing seasons - they even survive flooding in monsoons that destroy most rice crops. Fact - India has no chance of surviving their breeding like bunnies with no regard for the future unless they shape up now and use modern crop technology. One glint of hope - one million of you will die in the Covid pandemic, giving the survivors a chance to think again about the population explosion that is killing you.

How can somebody who says million people will die can provide anuthing for humanity1)the yield argument is absolute trick that you guys always use. 2)we has multipattern cropping so rice grew with other items so you have to take the overall yield to measure the tital yield3)native rice seeds when they grow they grow to greater heights so the upper portion was used as food for cattle native ones 4)with native cattle farmers didnt have to go for fertilizers and ploughing equipment like tractor so no initial investment for farmer, more savings 5)once the hybrid variety came in they being very short in height, the upper portion coulnt be fed to cattle which meant farmer had to buy food from outside for native cattle breeds 6)as i said in point 5 due to this issue they sold native cattle which meant fertilizers and ploghing equipment had to be brought from outside further strain on farmers. 7)so now a complete ecosystem was broken bad food, bad fertilizers and agro ecolgical chain was broken 8)the consumers who consumed less nutritious hybrid rice had more chronic diseases and lifespan of indians started to fall and infertility started to rise 9) we had no chronic diseases before 1967 now india is an epicentre of chronic diseases how?. 10)if GMOs are safe how much testing have you done. 11)you are cganging very gene of food that means you have to study its long term impacts 12)you have to carry out testing for minimum three to four generations for long term impacts of gene edited foods. Where are the test results for several generations? Where are the papers that have studied long term impact if gene edited food? 13)last but not the leadt we indians have very less death rates due to corona only 3 percent.Most of the cases are asymptomatic almost 80 percent. Its only the elderly people with chronic diseases like diabetes who are dying and they were obviously created by food system which you recommend as superior 14)Leave out blindness and vitamin A how many indians even wore glasses before 1967?

Vandana Shiva is almost singlehandedly responsible for the government of Sri Lanka banning pesticide use - which led to millions of people suffering starvation. If you look into her at all beyond this video, you will find that in virtually everything she discusses she has no idea what she is talking about. She understands almost nothing about the reality of the type of large scale agriculture that is actually required to feed the huge and growing human population. While her claims of being an environmentalist sound good, in reality she is a science denying hypocrite who wants to take farming practices back to the middle ages (she has advocated for using no automation at all, not even things like tractors) - you can see how well that worked out for Indonesia. She romanticizes the past and ignores the scientific evidence related to modern safe and sustainable farming practices. Monsanto is evil because of their business practices, not because of their technology. I encourage everyone to watch Myles Powers' videos about her; they will be eye opening for you.

So wonderful and thoughtful conversation. We need many more women like her to heal the earth!!! Peace , love and freedom !!

I could tell for a moment even Amy was shocked…. Shiva being Shiva. I myself a strong supporter of the environmentalist movement, we no longer can fight a war with unclear missions, and loose organizaitons.

she want's to deny the poor people from the modern tech in farming and go back to stone ages which will lead to mass starvation for the poor people. She claims to have a degree in science but no she's got one in philosophy of science what ever that is. She accused the US for using starved people as Gunnie pigs when all they did was provide food to the cyclone afflicted people. She recently claimed that covid has come from covid like bats eat corns these days. The list goes on but she's got a good marketing team. All these things i've said have backing. The indian government raised concerns about her when she accused the US of using the people as gunnie pigs. However she uses references like "one scientist from china" without any backing she uses pseudo science to shill her books and do these expensive events. She uses weasel words and nonsensical words with confidence.

For someone who's been preaching this stuff when it was very unpopular... I've seen way more people opening there eyes these days. I have hope. Keep speaking truth. The tides are turning.

I wish I could remain as positiv as dr. Vandana. She is among the 1% of those who understand. The rest will just tumble along with those who promise them a better life quicker.

While studying Company Law in Britain I was appalled by the criminality of hedge funds (shrouded in legality). More appalling to me was that when I questioned this, the younger mostly male students vehemently defended the right to extract profit and wealth by any means necessary. It was perfectly acceptable to them. Terrifying realisation to me then and now that our institutions of learning are producing soulless creatures who have no idea that they are contributing to the demise of their own and future generations.

@@mimi1o8 The Intercept is fantastic. It's run by Glen Greenwald (guy who helped break the Snowden leaks) and Jeremy Scahill (super knowledgeable guy, wrote a good book on Blackwater). Both of them have appeared on Democracy Now in the past.

It is good but also endorses too liberally the identity politics of modern late phase feminism. Amy is a great interviewer and asks good questions and then allows an answer to be formed without having to twist it in some wierd way that suits her point of view. I'd love to see her interview Jordan Peterson some day on freedom of speech.

If there is a world President. It should be vandana shiva. Trustworthy, passionate, intelligent, incorruptible and compassionate.
