This Man Traded His Ford F-150 For The New 2022 Toyota Tundra And Instantly Regretted It, But Why?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today I interview a truck enthusiast named Andy that traded his 2021 Ford F-150 Tremor for a 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited TRD Off-Road and then traded the 2022 Tundra back in for another Ford F-150!

My last three trucks over a span of 21 years were Toyotas. They were great trucks. My last was a V8 Tundra. I was considering the new Tundra, but when Toyota abandoned the V8 platform, I purchased a new 2021 F-150 XLT 302A package with the 5.0L Coyote V8 with 3.73 gears. This truck is so impressive in every category, style, power, sound, comfort, features, fit and finish. Of course, I've been interested in the roll out of Toyota's new vision for the Tundra, and from everything I've seen and read about the new Tundra, sure glad I bought the F-150. No regrets.

I agree with this guy. I traded my 2020 Tundra for the 2022 Tundra and there's quite a bit of cons with the new truck. I love the transmission/power, the interior and more. It rattles a lot when the bass is on, I HATE the turning radius on this new truck, I have a TRD SPORT and there's not even a USB plug in the back. The middle console is cheap. The Infotainment is cheap as it gets. Like the guy said, the space is poorly used which is unfortunate. They took away a lot of good features from the old Tundra...Just my 2cents.

Same 395hp and 8 speed transmission since 2013. It's also way ahead of the 5.3 offered by gmc including the 3.0 in terms of power, 2.7 ecoboost is behind and I wonder about the new 5.0. I’ve owned all the domestics. Years ago had a 2004 F-150. Obviously the newer F-150’s have advanced the ball considerably since then. I bought a 2019 Silverado. Loved the aggressive looks but admittedly the interior was a let down the longer i kept it. The re-freshed truck looks to have solved that issue. I traded that truck in for a 2020 Ram 1500 which i still have. Comfortable truck, nicely designed inside and out, hemi has great power and so far it’s been a relatively trouble free ownership experience. I think all the domestics make a really good full-size truck right now and it’s more about personal taste. Toyota? They had a 14 long years to bring their A game and i think they’ve caught up - at best.

The problem GM hasn't shown what much of the interiors look like on the Silverado or the Sierra without the ZR 2, Denali Ultimate package, or the AT4x. The WT base didn't get any of the promised interior upgrades. So we haven't seen how much of the cheap plastic looks in the lower trims have been reduced or the improvements. Even a Denali Trim with out the Ultimate Denali trim GMC I think it had one picture of it. I think you still get an upgraded interior, but it's crazy for the highest interior level of a luxury truck GM forces those buyers to pay for it as option trim packages rather than standard equipment for the highest trim in a luxury truck. It's been months when GM released interior photos but they didn't do it for every trim level.

I also drove the F150 Powerboost and I have to say, this video sums up my thoughts. The interior of the F150 is much better thought out. The power is CRAZY in the F150. The ride wasn't quite as good as the Tundra and that can be the difference between the rear coils vs leaf springs. I put a deposit down on the Powerboost because it is due to arrive at the dealership within 2-4 weeks. The Tundra.....not due to arrive AND BE AVAILABLE until 3-10 months!!!! And why is it that most F150s offer a rear locking differential, but you can't find a single Tundra with a rear locking diff?? I have called over 20 dealerships across the country and haven't found a single Tundra with the Offroad Package (unless it was a 4x2!!).

I'm totally surprised Andy didn't complain about any wind noise, & window stripping problems. Also he didn't mention if he drives off road and the truck has no tow hooks. City and rural driving is one thing but if you go off road, you do want to have front hooks or even underneath it a J hook. I have ridden in a Corolla and these cars do have wind noise. I would have been nice if Andy could have mentioned the infotainment log in problems when he first got it. Toyota made their computer complicated. He does mention that it has no split screen and it doesn't have a home button. I followed TFL Talk with Tim as a guest and brings up his issues with his Toyota truck.

Hey Ben, Ive driven both recently, a 22 Tundra Limited (slightly used with 2.5k miles, so maybe this former owner did the same) and just recently a Tremor F-150. The Toyota is nice and the screen is great but it felt so much bigger and definitely a bit more sluggish, the V6 has good power but the F-150 feels much lighter to drive and you feel that the space inside is used more efficiently. Both great trucks but Ford has the edge on usability and abilities! Interesting story!

I drive and tow with a 2015 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost. Was interested enough in the new Tundra to take it for a test. It confirmed which truck my next one will not be. My 2015 had more power, drove smoother, was more comfortable, more spacious and just plain nicer to drive. No rattles in my 8 year old Ford and the new Tundra was one big rattle it seemed. Plus how the heck does one get into the box of the Tundra with no steps of any sort? Plus the one I took out was the crew cab. Why even both putting in a seat there. I am 5'9", so on the shorter side, and with the front seat set comfortably for me, there was not enough leg room behind my driver's seat for me? I guess you could attach a child safety seat, but forget putting an adult there. Honestly I expected to be wowed by this test drive. I was wowed all right, but by my 8 year old F150.

Maybe its because I have a higher more "luxurious" trim level so maybe its more of a quality build but I love how it drives, the interior, full LED lights around the whole truck. Toyota didn't cheap out like the 22 fords with halogen license plate bulbs and no ambient interior lighting. Both trucks drive good but I would always chose the reliability of a Toyota any day over ford.

I can have the a/c on in 120 degree sunny day going up hill no problem.of course i would like more power sometimes but still gets the job done. I did own a 2016 ford f150 3.5 eco boost for about 4 months and then got rid of it because it had low low miles and everytime i pulled a trailer up hill in the heat it would over heat real fast and cut all power. Totally agree. I have a 2017 F150 lariat with 115K miles and it’s been great, but I was planning to trade it in for a new Toyota Tundra TRD pro, and although I haven’t driven the TRD pro the new Tundras I have driven just look and feel cheap and it drives worse than my F150 now with all those miles.

Agreed. I took a look at the 1794 at a local dealer here last week and I won't be trading in my 21 loaded lariat for it. F150>Tundra all day. Honestly I was so disappointed in person and the rear cabin on the tundra is horrible. No flat rear floor and less head and leg room. Only thing the tundra has over it was the heads up display but that is not a deal breaker for me. I'd rather have my power tailgate & zone lighting and tow hooks plus all the other features. Also the seats are more comfortable on the f150 and more spacious.

Don’t do it … get another Ford or look at Ram & GMC. I wouldn’t buy a Japanese truck, regardless of assembly location. They build good small cars, but trucks is where Americans excel.

Agreed with everything. I was a huge Toyota fan and now I’m driving a Ford too. They had to mess it up badly to make me leave….and they did!

You are absolutely right I have the same problem I have F1 50, 20,21 platinum hybrid and I got the new tundra. Capstone 2022 and I have to say is the worst plastic falling apart. I have issue with water coming everywhere when was raining gas mileage 15 mile per gallon really bad and I’m going back to Ford of course it’s the best ✅

I Think The New Tundra Is A Step Backwards For Toyota They’ll Could’ve Done Better.

Couldn't agree with you more, my 21 Tundra is all I hoped for in a truck and I find the 22 Tundra lacking in looks and they made a huge mistake in dropping the 5.7 for the 3.5 TT. They no longer have the market on reliability.

I understand your complaints and they are all likely legitimate issues. However, I don’t understand why you actually bought the truck. Seems like most of the issues are things that you could have experienced on a test drive. Things that bug you on a test drive aren’t likely going to get better or go away later.
