    I love the naked mole rat. Did you know it's one of the only (if not the only) mammalian eusocial species? Meaning it has a similar social structure to ants. A queen, workers etc. The Greater Blind Mole Rat is beautiful though, even though they're not eusocial.

  • @markcarey67

    @markcarey67

    Жыл бұрын

    The amazing thing is that the criteria for a eusocial mammal was predicted before one was ever discovered by evolutionary biologist Dick Alexander....then it was found: "Richard D Alexander made a prediction based on first principles of the evolution of social behavior. Although common in social insects, eusociality-the social system with a queen and sterile workers-was unknown in any other taxa. Under the appropriate set of conditions, Alexander predicted, evolution ought to produce a eusocial vertebrate, even though eusociality in the naked mole-rat (or any other vertebrate) was unknown at the time."

  • @markcarey67

    @markcarey67

    Жыл бұрын

    Parenthetically I disagree with some of the common stricter criteria of eusociality although I'm in allegiance with E.O. Wilson on this - I think it is indisputable that humans are eusocial - if you have cities, armies, agriculture trade and free movement of people and information between unrelated colonies then you are undoubtedly eusocial unless you want to invent another name for something beyond eusociality.

    Nothing right wing about our Liberal party. The two parties are left or far left. There is absolutely nothing 'conservative' with the way the liberals have been running the economy. Printing, borrowing and spending endless amounts of money as well as shutting down the economy for no recorded effect (with all the world wide lockdowns, 95% of the world population caught the '19, and they got told this would happen regardless of lockdown, but they knew better). All this behaviour is leftwing, and a more socialist style of running an economy and society, and it is exactly why inflation and interest rates are sky rocketing, death rates from cancer and unknown causes have exploded and are far higher now than at anytime over covid, way higher. Nobody is talking about that though, because they don't give a sh1t about the lives of citizens, they just say they do because dopes fall for it. I will repeat, there is nothing conservative about the Liberals.

    i'm trans and queer but absolutely hate when people use those terms as guilt smearing, "envy me for my endured hate, anyways here's my biased story about something entirely unrelated to that which furthers my own agenda" I am in no way dunking on those who fight for rights, and these things do happen a lot, but guilt and clout farming is simply gross and undermines the actual advocates. as Fahrenheit 451 said, the first means of mass oppression is the minorities being able to unlist any media because it's vaguely offensive to them, just because Shrek 2 made an aged joke once about a cross dresser doesn't mean it needs to be hidden from the eyes of the people. so this man saying he's gay for empathy (using his opinion to further biased media and by extension sway people towards unreliable information) only to do things like throw a pity party about a family needing to get basic employment and contribution to society is just gross. it's a problem in media everywhere, especially within some LGBTQ people, and I don't think people are called out enough on it. it even gives queer minorities a bad rap for a few bad accounts infesting Twitter and things like this, and it's not okay! thanks for reading my vent comment, and please remember that it's okay to call these people out and that they do NOT represent their community as a whole. people who use these tactics on a bigger scale such as this are disgusting individuals, and I hope they get what they deserve one day.

    I think this is a topic that is hard not to polarize on. On one hand, dark humor is a perfectly permissible thing, but on the other, straight up making insensitive jokes with the punch line being somebody’s existence is pretty damn cringe. A cross dresser joke in a Pixar film isn’t worth cancel culture, plus a lot of jokes like that ARE funny. However, I think it’s also okay to express annoyance or anger at genuine attempts to harm. Me personally, I wouldn’t take someone I don’t know well making homophobic jokes at me. Or a politician known for campaigning against queer rights. But I do find those jokes funny with peers. Issue is, people see “cross dresser joke in shrek movie not big deal” and equate it with “people should be allowed to make any insensitive joke with no repercussions”, and the other side sees “politicians shouldn’t make demeaning jokes about trans people” with “no dark or edgy humor or anything construed as anti-trans should ever be uttered”.. Real frustrating stuff.

You guys are seen as soft doormats with good money who can support their lifestyles in the relatively low-paying jobs, while making sure they look strong and independent by being able to stand over their husbands. You get to support them when their career tanks in their thirties and they decide to write a book.

    Jordies, long time watcher first time commentator (probably have commentated a few, but the whispers of alcohol can give a young man length, depth and breadth of confidence). I speak to you not as the lone journalist but as the team of people that through the voice of one can shine a light on the darkest parts of our local society and political system. The gap between comedic relief and true journalism has thwarted the tards we get on Aussie TV (i.e. The Project). I find it, in honest words, fucking beautiful how you can now tailor a small segment to our American friends who now can see the influence that the grey crusty ex-Australian leather (he shall have no name) has on their media. Just keep doing what you've always done. Alas I'm not in a financial position to contribute to patreon as of date, however I hope my words can offer small credence to all of your work. P.s as a studying scientist I'd love to look into more of the push for STEM in schools. It seems the only way to make "money" in those fields is to contribute to the defence/fossil fuel force. The childhood described in the podcast (?) is the childhood of 7/10 kids at my rural public highschool, with 2 of 10 probably being worse off than that and 1/10 being secure. I'm not saying it's not tough to go through the loss of a parent (family breakdown, divorce, addiction, neglect, suicide, etc) and financial stress but I don't consider that degree of disadvantage to be exceptional. It was and probably still is just that common.

In that they've never had to think about it before. It's a new concept to them. "UNABLE TO AFFORD STUFF?!" "NOT LIVING IN MELBOURNE?!" Oh my god, the tragedy of it all!
