Did you know that German New Guinea was seized by Australia early in WW1. Did you know that at the end of that war US President Woodrow Wilson was determined to gift former German New Guinea to Japan (along with the Caroline and Marshall Islands , which they got). Wilson was keen to gain favour with the Japanese and considered New Guinea should go to them for contributing to the allies in WW1. Only Billy Hughes stood against the US president with utter determination. Hughes got his way and New Guinea became an Australian mandate territory. Had he not insisted, Japan would have started WW2 from Rabaul and Lae. It would be fair estimation that Japan would have severed links between the USA and Australia in 1941/42 and isolated Australia within six months. Had Hughes not seen this threat far in advance this video might be in Japanese. While Hughes was definitely not perfect due to the actions mentioned here in forming the Federal Police, lets not cherry pick history to bolster current opinions. In balance he was a passionately loyal leader who overstepped these individual freedoms, pushing conscription for the bigger picture he and others then saw. He did go on to support former soldiers as civilians despite them mostly voting against conscription prior. He was shrewd and quickly saw through Keith Murdoch when he attempted to topple General Monash (because Monash was Jewish). In WW2 he gave advice and support for Menzies and Curtin during WW2. When he died in 1952 his funeral drew 450,000 mourners. Not telling his backstory and heaping Hughes in the same class as the modern mongrels to gain narrative is a bit shot sighted on what this video could have been.

Nice, back when there was a labour presence in the US, we had the Coal Wars and with it the Battle of Blair Mountain. I’m a local of the area and have been through the hollows and over the mountains where the coal war happened. Big companies seem to think America has collectively forgotten about the history of Left-Wing politics in the states, but some remember.

You probably don't given how Curtain fawned over MacArthur and let him do what he wanted - to the detriment of the Australia soldiers and the commanders on the ground in New Guinea especially. Prior that Menzies fawned over the British and allowed Churchill to throw our diggers into disasters like Greece and Crete, abandoned them in Singapore, tried to divert our only trained/experienced troops to defend India while Darwin was being bombed and conscripted 21 year olds were thrown into New Guinea with little/no training ... our WW2 history isn't as glamourous as we like to make out sadly - for either political party.

The newspaper is really good about telling you how to read up on all these shitty bills. If more of you were involved and gave a shit. Bullshit would not happen. When no body calls. Somewhat concurrently during this time, we had the West Virginia Coal Wars pitting labor unions and mine owners with their "private detectives." This cumulated in the battle of Blair Mountian there thousands of miners took up arms against the mine owners and their thugs. Around 100 people died, potentially millions of rounds were fired, and airplanes were used to drop poison gas on the miners. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Blair_Mountain en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_coal_wars
