@@boop3260 That’s not your place to assume AT ALL, and it’s literally cyber bullying to make that assumption and smear her on the internet for it. You know how many friends and family I cut off this year for letting their ignorant “political views” show during the election, and when my state issued the mask mandate? Quite a plenty, because I didn’t have a single clue they had such ignorant perceptions. People can be “good” in all other areas of their lives, and have an extremely disgusting view or 2, it’s obviously not going to come to light right off the bat with everyone, most people with these terroristic views know that most people don’t agree with them, and would probably beat their ass if they heard those views, so they keep them silent till they can no longer hide it.

I don’t have to agree with everything a youtuber says but this crosses a line for me. It sucks to have to distance myself from a channel i valued so much. I think someone can be a bit misguided, especially if they've lived quite a privileged life and don't really "get" on an emotional level what they're talking about when they're pushing some kind of hateful agenda. Like the young men in the beginning of 1900s who were bored with their lives and romaticized soldier's honor and national pride, and then went off to WWI just to realize for the first time how horrible war is with all of it's pain and famine and disease and death, and how there isn't anything honorable in that after all. Or people might be raised to fear and hate a certain group of people from a very young age, and it might be difficult to break a paradigm and people might be really thinking they're on the good guys' side. People aren't just black and white (no pun intended), they're complicated and nuanced psychosocial beings. I know it might seem impossible to stay in touch who just seems to be so disgustingly wrong about something so vital as human rights and equality, but the last thing we need is people that lock themselves away in their small echo chambers and refuse to keep the discussion open, because that's how the harmful extremist views just escalate further.

I mean I can see why Kristina's ragged on - she has hate put on her so much that she doesn't have time to even see straight or know right from wrong - compared to having a normal life - because normal life for her is the entire world gone crazy pointed at her. It's a hard life - so a little understanding would help. That said, I don't feel unnatural vegan's really in the wrong for trying to figure out what's going on - calling out both Kristina and the haters. I kind of agree with unnatural vegan that Kristina only says she doesn't do something but doesn't say how or why it's true - only talking down about how others are wrong - but not saying why. It's like the work of a politician or someone who saw something done wrong trying to deny it. But it's understandable how it got to this point - because unnatural vegan pointed out to kristina's haters how they're wrong too. I'm glad unnatural vegan's taking a step back, as it's just all adding to existing problems that're already a mess - good for her to try to make the situation better. I just feel some of the reactions by unnatural vegan are kind of incorrect - but I have been wrong about unnatural vegan's reactions before - so I'm not one to talk here.

I think a lot of people don't understand what they mean by intention not mattering in some cases. Just because you don't intend to hurt people doesn't mean that their pain isn't real or valid. Just because you don't want to be racist doesn't mean that you don't do racist things and say or believe racist things. FRK did a racist thing by doing black face even if that wasn't her intention that was the result and she hurt people by doing it. I am sorry, but people who are not from the marginalized group don't understand that trauma. It's similar to PTSD many of the triggers for PTSD may not be upsetting to others, but to those with PTSD they are extremely upsetting. The hardest part about those who are victims of racism, sexism, homophobia, etc... is that they make up a large part of the population collectively. The discrimination and abuse of marginalized communities is imbeded in our society so it will take more work and participation by those with power to move past it and avoid more harm being done. Many misunderstand that when people are pointing out these behaviors in good faith are not saying that you are a bad person they are saying that these behaviors are not good. Please don't let people who are not conveying the message in the nicest way stop you from doing the right thing. Those who lash out have suffered a lot and they are reacting that way because of it. Please ignore those things or if you can sincerely apologize for hurting them and acknowledge their pain and let them know that you intend to do the right thing and that you understand their message.

I 100% agree that intention doesn't matter in evaluating whether an *action* is wrong or harmful, but I think what UnVeg was getting at was that it should matter when we're talking about whether having done it makes someone a bad *person.* If I kick you, you're hurt regardless of whether I meant to. But if we're asking whether I'm an asshole for kicking you, whether I did it because I wanted to hurt you or because I was trying to kick a soccer ball next to your foot and missed -- that becomes relevant. Harm is harm regardless of intention, but an accident doesn't make you an asshole. In the latter case it becomes about how you respond to having caused harm.

I agree! We all have to try to see people's intentions when they hurt us because it's helpful in forgiving them. I saw her video "calling out" vegnews before knowing what was going on and it was just confusing and off-putting because she just kept saying how she's lebanese latina and saying she's being bullied... I think the big problem with her is that she's always so focused on the "haters" and thinking she's a victim of bullying, while simultaneously minimizing her own mistakes and ignoring how her actions and words affect others. She's so concerned with being hurt, but doesn't care when things she does hurt others, and when people try to explain to her, she calls them bullies... I think she really is so convinced that she's a beacon of light that she doesn't think she is capable of doing things wrong. Her apologies are more like "sorry I didn't know, what do you want me to do" rather than "sorry, I realize how this is bad, and I've learned from my mistakes". It's just sad honestly, I think she's a good person but she's so wrapped up in her own world that it's near impossible for her to understand where other people are coming from.

"There are plenty of things to be angry about in this world and maybe this isn't one of them" Swayze, you can't tell people what is okay and not okay to be upset over. You say that you don't think her intentions were bad, but I cannot see any adult person in north america (or beyond honestly) seeing that and not going "oh no this is a bad idea". People hide behind "oh I didn't know" or "I didn't think about it oops!" to get away with questionable or blatantly racist shit all the time, it's an excuse to get people to not be mad at them. That being said, I think it is valid for people to still be hurt by a creator doing something like this, even accidentally. It is related to many generations of trauma. Let me put it this way. Imagine someone making these arguments about veganism. "There are plenty of things to be angry about in this world, and maybe other people eating animals isn't one of them". Or someone going on as a vegan influencer and they post a picture of them drinking a regular Frappuccino from Starbucks. People comment and tell her it isn't okay and they are upset that she is promoting this on her large platform and she goes "Oh I didn't know there was milk in this my bad". Like how would you not know? It takes 2 seconds of research or brain activity to realize that it isn't a good idea. Then imagine it comes out that this influencer has this person that is known for supporting animal agriculture on their channel and thus they get a lot of backlash and say "hey, this person you are promoting is causing a lot of harm and is advocating for animal agriculture. You say you are super close with them and they are your huge mentor how can you be okay with this??" and once again they turn to "oh I had no idea even though hundred of strangers on the internet knew and I was extremely close to this person. My bad, I totally don't support that!" The amount of trust that these are actually accidents starts to go down when it keeps happening. If I had a nickel for every time this fictional vegan influencer was accidentally supporting animal agriculture I would have two nickels which isn't a lot but still weird that it happened twice, right? When you are speaking to a substantially large group of people and you have quite a lot of influence, I personally believe that you have a RESPONSIBILITY to do research on people, topics, whatever it is that you are promoting. You don't get to go "oh I didn't know", make it your business to know before posting. "it's fun to be outraged" This sentiment keeps coming up with you. It's incredibly infantilizing. You see people upset about something, decide that since you aren't upset you can see no reason why people are upset, thus they must just be playing around. "It's fun" No it isn't. It isn't fun to have to constantly stand up against people trying to say it's okay to do racist or homophobic or whatever things that in general society today are not okay. It's not fun to have someone see something that hurts you and tells you "this isn't offensive you shouldn't be hurt by this". It's taking a "I know better than you sweaty" approach and it's dishonest. Where are your sources? Where are your sources that Kristina didn't mean to be racist or support racists? Why are you defending someone without any sources on why? Is it just because they are vegan? That's pretty weak Swayze. I'm just tired of you seeing people expressing how upset they are that has done something that hurts a group of people and you say they are probably just kids, they are probably misinformed, they are somehow ignorant or naive, they don't know what they are talking about. If you don't know that information about someone, why are you making that assumption? Just because they are upset that makes them wrong? This is just an Appeal to Authority. This is a major logical fallacy. I just want to make that completely clear. I perceive that you are trying to take this moderate route. You want to assume that people didn't mean any harm in things they do a lot of the time and they shouldn't be demonized for that, (while also claiming that people need to educate themselves on veganism). If I don't mean any harm in consuming chicken breasts every day, does that mean I am absolved of needing to become vegan? What if I say I really didn't know that factory farms were bad and that I'll stop then I move on to eating eggs? What is the actual effect of my actions? The effect is that animals are harmed and I've contributed to an industry that supports that. See it isn't about intent. I don't care what intent Kristina had/has in what she is doing. I care about the effects of what she is doing. I care that, regardless of her intention, she is causing harm. If I run over someone with my car by accident and they die, sure I might not go to jail if it is ruled accidental but a person still lost their life. That morally has to raise some alarm flags with you, right? I seriously can't understand why a channel so focused on the suffering of animals seems incapable of empathizing with humans and human suffering. The most frustrating part is that you realize this. You note how her intentions are good but her diet is harmful. You say your intentions towards her are good but that your messaging has potentially lead to increased harm towards her. You just don't seem willing to say "her intentions may have been good but she did cause real harm and that's not okay". In terms of not being friends with people/loving people with different views than you: This is a difficult subject. My question to you is How many non-vegan friends do you have? Not family, not co-workers or whatever, but close friends. Isn't it difficult to cultivate a relationship with someone who has views that are severely different from yours? I've had blatantly racist friends before and my disgust in their behavior made it really difficult to cultivate a healthy relationship past acquaintances and even then I wasn't jumping at the bit to hang out with them. Not saying that it is wrong to do so, I just can empathize with that mindset. "racist" and "pedophile" as the worst things you can be labeled. Interesting take. So you recognize that pedophile is an awful thing to be called because it harms people (specifically children) and implicates you in that behavior. I've never seen it used without any source of reason to believe it personally. Following this logic, being a racist means you __________. (I'll give you a hint: It's hurt people. Including children!). Like this is so frustrating to listen to. "People throw the word around a lot" well yeah, if a huge group of people including influencers were sexually assaulting children then we would be using the word pedophile a lot too! Or if it became a trend to murder people for YT we would call them murderers. So when people are supporting racist ideas and imagery and perpetuating racism using their platforms, we will call them racist. That's how that works. (Though I do perceive you have a little salt over being called a racist yourself so you strawman the people who call others racists as these extremists who hate white people so you don't have to address your own behaviors and how they have hurt people, but I digress). I'm not going to spare an influencer who has caused harm their feelings. I'm not going to pat them on the back and say "oh I wont call you a racist because you did and support racist things. Don't feel bad about it we can grow together". No. This is a grown ass adult. They can take criticism and figure it out. I'm not going to not call something by the word that describes their actions because it might hurt their feelings. (will con't in reply)

"As a white person I'm not allowed to talk over black people when it has to do with race" Ok. If you were able to point to sources on why you are saying "oh this isn't racist, it's just outrage culture" then people would likely be a lot more okay with you speaking on race. THE PROBLEM is that you give your OPINIONS on race issues WITHOUT SOURCES as though they were FACTS! Meaning, you give no reason as to why you are denouncing people saying that something is racist other than "I don't think this is racist" regardless of the fact that the people who have to deal with this kind of racism every day and for many generations has been a reality for them are telling you that these things are in fact racist. This is not "parroting a particular view" this is 1000 people tell you that it is racist and 1 person says that it isn't and you are choosing to listen to the one person that says it isn't because it aligns with your views. Pretty unscientific. If you can give me a good reason as to why Kristina's behaviors aren't racist other than "I don't think it is" the let me know, otherwise it is an unsubstantiated claim. I guess I am curious why you keep covering topics that are only tangentially related to veganism. Like this channel is starting to feel like a drama channel with a splash of veganism tossed in. The racism and anti-Semitism allegations toward Kristina have nothing to do with veganism. Commenting on her diet and how that is problematic should have been the focus of the video, unless you have some sources on the other topics I don't really understand why you feel the need to go into detail defending her on them and telling people to calm down. If you do have sources for why people should calm down then share them, otherwise it's just your opinion presented as if it is logical fact. I presume this is because talking about drama is great for views and interaction on these videos and thus more money for you, but it would be way more interesting to see a vegan influencer talk about vegan research and the progression of veganism in the world. instead of having them defend other vegans racist behavior. To wrap up: "I feel really bad for Kristina" makes me think of the line "well, well well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions". Her getting "hate" and her having a "hard time apologizing" and the consequences of her actions. I don't think we should harass this person, but they should receive criticism for their actions. There should be consequences. They should be de-platformed for spreading harmful messaging. People are free to say and act however they want, but that doesn't mean the rest of society has to lay down and passively take it.

So I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt after your D’Angelo video, but I see that your behaviour in this is the same. You have no place to say that something isn’t racist to POC just because you don’t think it is. It has nothing to do with you! You can’t possibly think that telling black people to “get over it” when someone does blackface is okay. Everyone in our western world knows better than to do that. So her intent wasn’t harmful then she doesn’t have to apologize? Absolutely not. Just because I didn’t mean to hit you doesn’t mean it didn’t still hurt. And to mock that people have already told you this as the end of the video? That is wildly immature. You know why the word “racist” gets thrown around so much now? Because a lot of us are sometimes. We’ve grown up in a society with systemic racism, and there’s no shame in admitting that and while striving to improve. How is racist one of the worst things for someone to be called? Because we don’t want to admit it? Because we know we hurt someone? Can you imagine how much worse it feels to be a victim of racism? You don’t have to be a perfect person, you just have to want to do better instead of mocking those who suggest that you did something wrong. I’m not vegan, but I always watched your videos because I thought you were a well educated person who was willing to listen to other people’s opinions and correct behaviours if it was brought to your attention that you were doing something upsetting. I guess that’s not true and it’s really disappointing.

I gotta say I think it’s kind of speaking out of turn to tell people to “move on” and that forgiveness is for them when it comes to an issue like blackface. We can’t relate and we don’t know what it’s like. Moving on and letting it go is not what forced blackface out of the public favor, and racism is often replicated without the informed consent of the perpetrator due to upbringing and culture; naïveté does not mitigate impact. I think as white people the only people we can begin to tell how to feel about something like blackface is other white people, because that’s the only group that is impacted by it in a way we can personally understand and relate to.

If someone is unaware that they do subtly racist things, or still believes in some stereotypes, then yeah, educate them and they might actually change. I really enjoy your videos, and I normally find myself agreeing with a lot of your takes, but I disagree with you that "racist is the worst thing you can call someone". It's definitely not. Calling someone out for doing or saying something racist (or defending acts of racism committed by others) is asking for accountability. It's a call to educate oneself on how or why something is problematic and racist. There's an awful lot more to it than the "I hate xxxx people" sentiment, and it often has a lot to do with underlying biases and microaggressions. I agree with a lot of other commenters that intention doesn't always matter when harm has been done. You can mean something else, but that doesn't negate the hurt caused directly or indirectly. I feel that it's important to say that I am white, and I choose to educate myself on topics of conflict like this so that I can hold myself accountable and better the world we live in by changing myself for the better. This world doesn't need any more denial, it needs accountability. I challenge you and everyone who reads this to choose accountability too and educate yourself on topics you or someone you've seen have been called out for, or that you've spoken up about or disagreed with. I challenge you to dig deeper and really listen with open ears and an open mind rather than dismissing things as "not racist". Instead, question how that might actually be problematic or racist. I want to see you grow in this regard so that the world is a better place and so that your criticism and evaluations hold more weight.

I think it is also important that if someone makes a false claim of racism (or any other negative claim about a person) then they should be called out for it too. If we "cry wolf" too often on racial issues, then no one is going to believe us when real racial issues come up.

I've definitely seen john rose's videos. They seem anti-semitic, and are and aren't based on the context. Part of it is a lie, but other parts are to show how to spot lies out of anyone too and to protect oneself from them to serve life better. Regardless - it was him that put her on this journey - so giving that person credit - no matter what he did (that she might not have known - as the videos are hard to find) - is what that person deserved as well as the audience what happened - for historical context. It seems people are at it again - taking a situation out of context to blame a person. It makes it really hard to do anything in this world, as everything on camera can be misconstrued while people doing real crimes off camera aren't noticed.
