This is HOW BAD Latifi Really is..

Спорт

For the second time in three seasons, Nicholas Latifi is on track to finish 21st in a 20 car championship and that is just not good enough. To be competitive in Formula One you have to be in the top 0.0001% of race drivers in the world, so there is no shame in saying you made it there, even if you couldn’t compete. Unfortunately for the man we fondly call Goatifi, the Italian Grand Prix was the final nail in the coffin that will hold his F1 career. We all know he is bad, but just how bad is he? Let’s check out some numbers and look back at what has been an undistinguished career.

To be fair, Latifi did help William financially until the change of direction, and that’s by itself an accomplishment. He was not crashing at every race, kept his car (mostly) clear, and allowed Williams to stay in F1. I think this is worthy of praises. His race skill are decent, but nowhere near enough for an F1 pilot. I don’t think he’s deserving of a place; especially since Nick has shown how good he is (A trend with dutch people, go figure lol). I still wish him the best of luck. He seems like a kind person.

Facts. Nobody expects from Latifi to be "Albon/Nyck/George level driver". It wasn't purpose of major deal Williams signed. As harsh it was, it was neccesary for team to survive though years (similar story to now Aston - it wouldn't be in F1 at all without Stroll senior help and junior as driver). Even best drivers on grid couldn't fill 40million per year difference with performance alone. (doubt that even Max+Lewis or whatever combo could pull Williams 2 places higher - maybe, juuuust maybe figth AM for 9th) From person who actually likes Latifi (mostly because of all hate - more people hate, more I like him. All that wasted hate energy (they could easily turn it into crowdfunded seat for favorite driver, hehehe) is so tasty!), 2022 regs hit him hard (not as much as Ric but near enough). If people would have a tiny bit of brain (no offense - I wish I would have less =)) ), they would know that in last and pre-last year's Williams Latifi was actually decently fast and could easily match Russell on many weekends (his Saturday shape was meh but on Sunday Russell was often struggling more). Aaand he loves Hungaroring! Would love to see him race there once again in top-level car (just one time event of season) If Williams are fine with budget, it is time to move for 2 talants in team, no doubt. But "Blame the game not players", (going to enjoy final races of Goatifi era in F1 if that is the case!)

After the Italian GP I'm pretty sure Latifi's career is over. But remember that after 3 years of constant denigration, after all the hate he received after the Abu Dhabi GP, life is pretty harsh. I can't imagine what's going in the mind of a driver that every time he opens a social media or an article everyone describes how bad he is. He's surely not the best of the drivers out there but he doesn't deserve such hate.

@zak I get your point, but just because you get good results in junior series doesn't necessarily mean you are a promising driver. If a driver can't make it to F1 on merit alone and has to buy their way into a seat, then they are screwing a deserving driver out of career length, and as I said in another comment, screwing the fans out of seeing a skill set and excitement that only the best of the best can deliver.

Not much points at all really, at best they would keep finishing P12-14 (= out of the points) or something like that. Together with HAAS they're the worst of the bunch still and on own merit alone wouldn't really be finishing races in the Top 10. RedBull and Ferrari have by far the best pace, Mercedes has made a good comback and seem steady. Alpine seems solid. McLaren's lacking a little compared to the expectation this season, but still solid enough. That's your 5 teams for the Top 10. Alfa Romeo looks quite good, but has had pretty terrible reliability. Alpha Tauri seems underwhelming. The Aston Martin is very hit and miss. HAAS looked not to bad at the start of the season, now seems like a bit of a joke and well Williams... they're just holding ground. Not quite what Russell was capable extracting out of a Williams, but overall still decent compared to the last couple of years in hands of the family. But it needs weekends like the last, where there's tons of grid penalties and unfortunities of others to really capitalize on their opperunities to score points.

Overall, Verstappen was the better driver in that championship. Even with Latifi's experience he only just edged out a kid fresh from Karting. The line about him having a wosre next year kinda made me think, how much lap times are affected by just sheer moral. Like, if winners keep up the good pace because they are sure they can do it and how loosers are being anchored by their failures because they think its impossible for them to do better.

For the record Latifi is a good driver just not F1 worthy when there are so few seats. He has had his chance. Williams if moving forward as a team need 2 drivers maximising the car. Albon in seat 1 and either De Vries or Schumacher with a little sponsorship.
