How tf did it even happen? Like, Japan HAD photos of his crimes, they had proof that he did everything. Why wasn't that enough? How can they let him just go on with his life, getting famous for the worst crimes possible, without thinking twice about it??

@@blackatsu22 Well the extra details of this case that I saw in a true crime channel (believe it was coffe house crime but I don't remember) was that the murderer was son to a very influence 'al person who somehow managed to buy him out of prison. I don't remember every exact detail but his dad had that kind of power is the key detail I do remember. And knowing how Japan likes to hide shame under a rug the puzzle pieces start to fall in place.

think of that all the time when murderers get famous. The murders of Jeffery Dahmer and Ed Gein and the like will forever cement these beautiful, talented people as accessories to someone who has a """more interesting""" case study in heavy quotations. All of their accomplishments, interests and relationships, their humanity, takes a backseat. It's a miracle if their names are ever remembered at all.

The worst part, IMO, is that it's not as if the Japanese criminal justice system is just soft or something, because at least in that case there's a legitimate philosophical argument to be made on the topics of rehabilitation vs retribution, or what right a government has to be...well, anything like the American one. Japan is so overwhelmingly 'tough on crime' that you cannot compare any aspect of their justice system to that of any actual multi-party democracy in good faith. If a crime is reported, someone is going to be convicted, even if most of them are likely innocent. But it seems like literally every crime notable enough to attract international attention results in someone truly monstrous getting a slap on the wrist. They've somehow managed to find the worst of both worlds.

Sagawa attempted to bite into Hartevelt's bare buttocks but his jaws were simply too weak to bite through. He remarks on how it hurt his jaw. He then used a knife to cut off said part to make it easier and he further mentions how surprised he was at the color of the adipose layer he saw beneath the skin. Fat is bright yellow.

The human fascination with this stuff is rooted in our negativity bias, I think. We focus our attention on things that alert us to threats, whether that's dangerous terrain or the last place that saber tooth cat was seen prowling around (or where Fred was supposed to have been hunting, and not returned from). That's been an important survival trait for the vast, vast majority of the time our species has existed, and probably our ancestral species as well. Knowing about and understanding the things that can kill us has served us well, so trying to understand these truly dangerous deviants is only natural.

We as humans subconsciously like violence and are attracted to violence and violent people even if majority of people don't want to admit it. It has nothing to do with survival. If it did everybody would try to avoid it as much as possible. (There are people like that, but they are rare). That is why people liked executions.

Im currently majoring psychology and learnt a bit abt forensic psychology. I found Issei Sagawa's case interesting to me bc the murderer himself drew what he felt abt the case just like a diary and drawing tells so much than just words. I have some thoughts abt the drawing bc i took classes on drawing assessment in uni and connecting some to Jeffrey Dahmer's crime case (theres a video of a forensic psychologist reacting to Jeffrey Dahmer case, uploaded by Buzzfeed Unsolved). However disclaimer that this is just thoughts from a student, im not a qualified forensic psychologist and I'm not native english speaker so some words may lost in my translations. My first thought that he has paraphilia and difficulty to control his impluses (esp sexual impluses) and its shown/depicted in his drawings. He might have voyeourism/exhibition issues bc he willing to draw it into a manga and shares it to mass media "reacting" it. And from his drawing depicted that he is (or was at that time) rly childish/has regression tendency meaning that he acts esp like a child in his adulthood. This could be due to abnormality since birth or from his childhood development (he mightve abused as a kid, parents held full authority over him). However im not 100% sure abt this bc his drawing could be influenced by manga style and not purely his deafult drawing style. My next thought is the halo. Its interesting since he put halo on his victim on his drawing although im not sure why he drew that. This might be his love to his victim/he sees her as a saint/he wishes good wish for her praying that she rests in peace. And my final thought that this could be the same case as Jeffrey Dahmer. They killed and had s*x with the corpse not bc have grudges, its bc they love the victim. And they both might have issues with rejection with their lovers (victims) so in the mind its better to get down the bussiness with a dead body rather than alive one. This could be due to abuse from when they had endured when they were rly young or birth abnormalities, there are so many factor why a person could do something like that. Again in the end its just purely my first sight observation bc this kind of case is rly complex and time consuming to understand (sometimes rly draining your mental health trying to study cases like this one). In psychology field its always two side of story from the victim and also the perpetrator. Perpetrator could also be the one who need help bc they dont know how to control themself and prone to be suicidal bc of it. Maybe if you have other thoughts you can write it down in reply, i would rly appreciate it. Anyway thats it and thanks for reading, I also rly needed to let this all out honestly

Because you usually don't make content like this, making more would honestly slap. You got the vibe perfect and you are interested in the topic more than anyone so hell yea brother!

I also really like true crime! It's cool to me that you're exploring these kinds of topic, even if it's gruesome. I wouldn't mind seeing more content that covers subjects like this. Keep up the good work!

Even if she says "It's disturbing, trust me" I'm the kind of person that feels annoyed if I can't read/watch it myself and make my own opinions about it, but I'm doubting whether it's worth it this time lmao

I would love to see more of this content but honestly take care of yourself while doing it and know that you don't have to go for stories as hard as this one. I've also delved deep into some cases before out of morbid curiosity and yeah sometimes it is really hard to stomach that knowledge after the fact (Bundy honestly got me real bad, what he did to the kid...), this definitely sounds like one of those, and I can't imagine it would be very good for you if you continued looking for worse and worse cases and were frequently exposing your psyche to such things, I honestly couldn't even handle that myself and I also consider myself difficult to shake up. I do it as a once in a blue moon thing and then follow it up with "I'm going to do all the nice and happy things to try and cope with this information". Especially cases like this one where people get away with it, those especially affect me and eat away at me. I feel better that he is being exposed like this to people though, it's even worse when these monsters just fade away like it never happened, no, remember what they did, and shame them for it forever, even after they die. A really good topic that would actually be fitting for your channel and is along the same lines as this, you should look into and research the serial killer fetish. It is freaking bizarre with girls who want murderers to stalk, choke them, etc. They'll make shirts and graphic tumblers to sell on Etsy about it. Oddities marketplaces on Facebook are especially a trip.

This, and the guys that killed Junko Furuta being let go are insane to me These are situations where you have new policies put into legislation. You can handle the details later, but these outcomes are clearly not the right ones to go with and the rules need some bending to have them put away

You can tell that you are almost on the verge of tears the whole way through. It's disgusting that evil like this pays, but it does, and the only thing we can do is ensure that it doesn't pay for long.

Everyone who celebrated a wicked persons actions like this, disrespects the victims. It’s sick. He got fame off his crimes like most criminals do. And everytime people make them famous it’s just absolute disrespect and a mockery to all those that lost their lives

I remember him! I saw him in a documentary video a while ago on KZread. It was so sickening that they just took him back to Japan even though he committed these atrocities. Not a lot of French remember him, but he just marked my mind, I’ll surely never forget him.

Three types of reaction exist for this morbid affair. There are those who are shocked, disgusted, and horrified. There are those who are fascinated. And finally, there are those who are unmoved, having a general apathy to it.

i saw a few videos talking about him on youtube, but i never knew he had written a manga. Also, one of the reasons why that he got free when he got to Japan, was because his father is really (rich) powerful/influential in japan at the time.

Sagawa admitted the crime, was found not guilty on the grounds of insanity, and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in France. The following year, he returned to Japan and was hospitalized at Tokyo Metropolitan Matsuzawa Hospital for one year. The hospital's diagnosis was that Sagawa had no proclivity for cannibalism and that he had lied to the French police. Dr. Kaneko, the hospital's vice president at the time, said that Sagawa was not mentally ill but had a personality disorder, and should be held criminally responsible. The French hospital mistook the enteritis that Sagawa suffered from when he was one year old for encephalitis. He believes he may have made the wrong decision. The Japanese police had exactly the same idea and planned to arrest Sagawa and bring him to trial again (Weekly Murder Case Book, No. 2, DeAgostini, 1995), but the French police decided not to prosecute him. He refused, saying that he could not hand over the investigation materials.
