Just a reminder that most of the bad stuff that happened on the exorcist was the directors fault. He purposely did things that would later cause permanent injury cause he wanted a real reaction. He caused the two main actresses to get permanent back injuries by making the wires they were on for stunts pull too hard or fast and was constantly scaring the cast by hiding guns on set cause he wanted real reactions and everyone to keep the appearance of being on edge. It wasn't haunted the director was just terrible!

I personally didn't find this manga that scary, but I really love the unique story telling format. PTSD Radio is a unique series that manages to be oddly captivating despite being vague and full of unanswered questions. It relies on primal fears and urban superstitions. Stuff like thinking you see a face in the shadows if you stare at the crack of a slightly closed door for long enough. Thinking someone is standing behind you when you close your eyes in the shower. Feeling like someone is hovering over you staring directly into your closed eyes when you’re trying to sleep in the middle of the night by yourself. The type of stuff that irrational anxiety and sleep paralysis demons are made of.

Just started this manga and it's story and art are both very striking! The characters just feel... wrong. Just inhuman, disturbing, unsettling. The flip flopping between narratives is really interesting and it needs a lot of rereads to kind of get what's happening. I will say though there's a lot of the 'creeping up behind you when you can't see it' sort of trope used by Nakayama, but it's sort of an instilled fear in all of us. What was that in the corner of my eye? Is someone watching? Should you investigate? Or is it too late....?

Who knows how much of it was true to life and how much of it was incredibly unfortunate happenstance. It's the kind of story I know he believes wholeheartedly, but I'm so curious how much of it all was a result of stress or mental health. Drawing such horrific things day after day as your day job must have done a number on the mental health for just about everyone involved

When I heard the beginning of your recounting of the author's notes, I thought it was going to be something along the lines of him being spooked by his own efforts into creating horror story, and bailed out after something incidentally similar to his story happened to him in real life; however, I was genuinely disturbed after hearing the whole story. I think I'm going to make it an inspiration of my new horror story. Thank you for sharing this.

I know that some people think ghosts don't exist, and thinks that there are many reasons we witnessed paranormal activity. Well, maybe they're right. But I know what I saw. It was real. The first time I saw a ghost was 3 times in a row in just a few days. Back then I wasn't familiar with the concept of "dead people". I was too young to understand it. So instead of running away from the ghost, like the curious child I was, I chased after it and saw it poof out of existence once I blinked. I wasn't sure of what happened, but yeah I just shrugged it off like the innocent kid I was. But I remembered it clearly. She wore a long white dress with a dry mud/dirt stain all over it, and her long and dark hair was unkempt like it wasn't taken care of for years. Funny thing is, I met her 3 times. The first time I saw her walking up the stairs, except I'm not sure if her legs were moving or not cuz her long white dress touched the floor, so it's impossible to see her feet. I tried to chase after it, but poof she was gone. I called over them, but no one answered. Even my mom was confused why I called for someone. My mom was an incredibly religious person, so when I told her what the person I saw looked like, she thought I saw Jesus. But I know whoever they, they can't be Jesus. And I think my mom was just forcing herself to believe that I saw God and not something else. The second time I saw her was in my parent's bedroom. This one, I walked into a dark bedroom since I wasn't tall enough to reach the light switch. And when I saw her inside the bedroom, she was walking/floating her way towards the bathroom inside my parent's bedroom. I chased after it, but there was no one inside the dark bathroom. The third time I saw it was in broad daylight. She entered the first floor bathroom, but this time she walked right past me. But even after encountering her three times, I never once saw her face. She was always facing away from me and all I see was her long and unkempt dark hair. It wasn't until years later I found out that we have a name for that type of ghost. We call it "Kuntilanak", which I'm sure some people were familiar with that name, which is from Dreadout. I know it's possible for someone to hallucinate when they think they saw a shadow. But how could we hallucinate an unfamiliar and horrifying concept? I wasn't even running away from it. I chased after it because I genuinely have no understanding what "Death" or "Ghost" are.

there is this old concept used in the past by DC Comics where superheroes from one universe are know in another universe as fictional characters. and that the nature of the multiverse just makes it so that these real individuals manifest themselves in the minds of the artists that ''create them''. something similar happens in the Alan Wake universe. the game Alan Wake is made by Remedy Entertainment, which also made the Max Payne games, Quantum break and Control. in the game of Alan Wake, Alan, a writter, becomes famous for his Alex Casey novels. this fictional character named Casey in reality magicaly inspired in the mind of his writter Max Payne, who exists in another universe of the Remedy Multiverse, which was confirmed the Game Control. and Tomorrowland had a similar concept. I say all of this because it brings to the mind the idea of... what if many of these terrifying creatures we see in fiction are in fact real entities from other universes? and what if, by us becoming aware of their ''existence'' they become aware of ours and manifest themselves into our reality? truly facinating stuff. and the concept of American Gods also can be mentioned. how these gods and entities start existing the moment someone starts beliving in them. what if all that it takes for the monster under our bed to exist is to fear it?

Seems about right. The only thing protecting our world is the notion that those are only fiction and not real, and if that's gone, we're doomed. The only thing protecting the world is the grand plan of the ancients, making people think the "fantasies" ain't real! Lol But ya if that do be true we are *actually* doomed tho o3o

That's a very good way to end this story he united the fictional horror with ”real life” paranormal experiences while creating an urban legend attached to it as publicity for this and his next works. As a fan of everything horror hearing someone say ”the story is based on authors experinces” not necessary paranormal but still real life experiences will make more interested to check it out despite knowing that as every single ”based or inspired on real life paranormal events” is either a clever publicity strategy but given that there is a small possibility that the author indeed went through several misfortunes and creepy experiences that he interpreted as paranormal and not just coincidences that may and indeed happen and used them to create a good story always makes it more special. Art is always better when the artist feels what he is trying to describe may it be a book, song or a painting.

Negative entities are getting power from negative emotions and fear is the easiest to get out of people. So if it is really a demon what is haunting him, then it would make sense.

  • @webuser2014

But a Demon would try to kil him or make him harm other people. True or not, if the haunting stopps when he stopped telling about his experience, then it seems more like the Entity has moral/principle to uphold and is not the Bad one in this story.

Idk I feel like even if the story is made up, it's still interesting and actually a cool way to advertise a horror manga. Plus, the "lack of an ending" with that explanation is an ending in itself, like the real horror wasn't actually in the plot but in the circumstances of its creation. May be unsatisfactory, but I still find it interesting in a way

I think the reason bad things happening at that tenement and why the shaddowy entity is present there is because in every buddhist (confucians or toaists) communities, there maybe one or two previously rented apartments that where turned into columbariums or ash shrines by ex monks or funeral priests to earn money. As they claim its much wiser that their dead love ones be taken cared by a person of high spiritual knowledge and capabilities. I experienced it once in hokaido japan and in taiwan. Didnt knew the room beside my unit was an ash shrine and a funeral priest is the renter. I met a handsome japanese wrestler. We dated for two months until we become officially fiances september 6th of the same year. His name is Makoto Matsuda, tall, bulky feats., had this hairy, reddish (drunk like) skin. Im actually tearing up right now coz i remember it like it was yesterday...At first i thought he was a freak, or a cosplayer coz he always went home wearing his wrestling gear. It was september 6, my coworkers set a dinner to welcome our new co worker coni. Coni lives across the third floor of the same tenement where i stay. After we went home, i immediately passed out due to tiredness. I remember i woke up exactly 2:58 am to coni's phone call, "duanji, makoto is banging my door and yelling at me, and hes holding a knife! Help!" I freaked out and nervously peaked through the hole in my door and thats when i saw him, his clothes all covered in blood, his short hair that i carefully comb downwards everytime, now all raised up. I noticed that his temple is bleeding. Makoto kicked the door real hard and i remembered i forgot to lock it. The door opens with a long creek sound and he went in. Knife's at my throat , he sobbed away why he's mad that i didnt introduced him to my coworkers and begins to sexually assault me. I reported the whole thing to the police. But they were shocked as i mention his name. "Mr. Matsuda died in a shoot out incident in 2002..." he was dead for almost 2 decades now.😢 Reason i became a part time horror novelist and animator is because of this true experience.
