This FFXIV Trend Got Too Silly

Is Final Fantasy 14 dying?
I've been seeing so many videos about the state of FFXIV lately. While I think criticism is a good thing for video games, I think this trend turned into something really bitter and confusing for new players. Let's talk about the current state and the future of FFXIV.

That's literally such a small number the game just treats it as it doesn't even exist- what the hell is +2 to a stat going to do when you have +1900 crit already??

If players ask for something, and the devs don't deliver on it... it doesn't mean theyr'e "ignoring the players". It means they don't agree, or that the requests otherwise don't fit into the game based on numerous factors that only the devs are privy to. Listening to feedback does not guarantee they're going to agree. Disagreeing with the feedback does not mean they're ignoring it or don't care what the playerbase thinks. There is so much to do, but I understand that there are some features in the game that others might not enjoy however, no one can sit here and say there is no content when only doing a singular bit of content over and over. As someone who has played MMORPG's since EverQuest... Yeah I got no long study to provide on this. FF14 is probably, even now, the healthiest MMORPG on the market. And I play most of them. I think the best and most succint explanation I could give is that herd mentality on MMORPG's turn people incredibly thickheaded and when their favourite *Oshi uWu Content Creator* says game bad then those attached to that creator will immediately parrot the sentiment. We had people like that in Vanilla WoW, Burning Crusade. We had them in Heavensward, Stormblood. Idk. People gonna people.

Thats an imaginary argument and also the "new stuff" was island sactuary - content that is literally objectively dead, less than 0.074% of all players have the title for reaching rank 10. Criterion has no rewards and again less than 2% of the entire playerbase has even completed normal version let alone savage. You can ask for new fresh content and also be upset when that new fresh content was developed poorly and not thought out at all. Remember that you pay over $300 per expansion, its very tonedeaf and immature to just say "hah you didnt get your money's worth? must just be whining LOL" Players like you are the direct problem with this game, not the community and not the devs, the toxic casual minority like you who have never accomplished anything in game, dont understand it, and have clearly never been good at anything in your entire life lmao.

Glad someone here is finally pointing this out. Though in my experience, I feel the FF14 crowd on KZread (or just the internet in general) feels like a small fraction of the entire community. And I feel I tend to experience the actual community on the game itself, rather than the small bubble that's the internet, where particular folks go on there to scream. I also think this has been an issue not just for FF14's youtube community, but just every youtube community in general. And I feel it's because KZread's algorithm has just gotten THAT bad. The algorithm unfortunately rewards negativity. And this has sadly affected A LOT of KZreadrs and how they create their vids. Even otherwise intelligent and well-meaning folks can be affected. Even if they're trying to be grounded and honest, you can tell their words have been warped to some degree due to the KZread Algorithm culture. And I feel bad for a lot of KZreadrs out there. I don't think it's entirely their fault. KZread really needs to fix this. I think the reason I enjoy your vids is because you're not trying to just scream like it's "Video Twitter." You're not trying to "fight" for opinions and criticism and declaring it all "important." You're just being you. You express how you enjoy the games you play in a way that's not cloying. You're having fun, and you want to share that. But you clearly make vids for yourself and not for appealing to some audience. And I think that's awesome! Whether you're playing FF14, or other games like Baldur's Gate 3, you express how much they really bring a unique joy to you like no other. And I think that genuineness isn't something you always see on KZread these days. So, thank you so much for continuing to be you on this insane site!

I watched Xeno's 3-part video picking this Lynx dude's so-called arguments apart piece by piece. The Lynx dude is just plain bitter and not worth any more of our time, so good riddance to him! I have actually been replaying the revamped MSQ, and I am pleasantly surprised at how well they remade the Cape Westwind fight into a full 3 phase solo duty complete with an adds phase between Phases 1 and 2. Rhitahtyn sas Arvina is a worthy test for new players to overcome now. And let's not forget Lahabrea! His solo duty is also something to experience for yourself at least once. My alt is still early in post-ARR, so I have no comment on the Steps of Faith solo duty. At least not yet.

Thank you !! You said everything I was thinking, most of the people complaning, for my point of vue, are people who probably "played too much" FFXIV, or people who are missing half the content by skipping MSQ, Tribal quest, etc, or even people who are not even trying the savage or ultimate content...So it's not that the game is becoming easier, or that there is less content, because that's not right you juste have to see all the content, but it's probably because they played way too much and are "bored". I mean if Yoshi-P is telling us to play other games if we are bored, why keep playing when bored to the point of getting to this point. Play other games ! Take a break ! FFXIV IS game that does no require of you to play every day of the week to be able to enjoy it's content. Take a break and come back later !

Took the words straight from my mouth. I was so annoyed with all these content creators complaining because there wasn't enough Grinding. Maybe they noticed not everyone makes a living off the game and many people have jobs, families, chores, and errands. It sucks for me because the minority of streamers are the typically the most influential to the changes. I love that ffxiv is looking out for both new and busy too.

I am an MSQ girlie and I like doing story dungeons with the NPCs that I am traveling with in the story line, make it feel immersive. I love reading and FF14 is a video book where I am the hero and I tell my own story with in the story that is given to us.. I think the Devs give enough story and background and lore to build our own story. Yes some of the contest like realm reborn was a bit loooooong, still is and some content is a bit tough for me.. but that is alright. I can find more things I like about FF14 than not. 1.0 player here. I took a break between HW and ShB, and now again post EW to focus on other things. I still love the game, I still sub (to keep my houses of course) and I can't wait for the next expansion! I have yet to play Post-EW content, simply because I felt like the 10 year long story coming to a finale was a fitting time to try other things for awhile. I plan to come back fully around the time Dawntrail drops, and I plan to start fresh with a new character to experience the story and content from a new player's perspective. This time with a completionist goal in mind :) I understand the complaints about the game. For me, the people I played with have either moved on, passed away, or just simply don't have the time these days to play. So the world can feel a bit lonely. That's not saying that's the game's fault at all, but I can understand Veteran players like myself, taking a step back from the game and maybe looking at it more critical without others beside you taking in the experiences. For me, I think the game is going in a great direction, and I can't wait for the new content, classes and story. I just really hope we can get some updates to Grand Companies and maybe finally get personal airships like I've been hoping for from the minute Sky Pirates were introduced. I just want to be a full blown Sky Pirate already!!!

"ppl are still horny" LMAO XD I love you Avy so much. My honest take on this is that ppl are (of course) overreacting, because the features they decided to debut on this expansion were not for the community overall taste. It's true that most of the content on the last patches were more geared towards 1-4 players max and the playerbase is well accustomed to have this post-expansion content as "more engaging" because of Eureka/Bozja zones in the past, where people used to spend most of their time in big groups and having a sense of "ppl playing together" even though is just a FATE grinding for relics (and, by the way... the decision on purely tomestones for relic farming in this expansion is a joke tbh). Overall, I think the devs are trying really hard to implement (and test) new things and the recurrent features (which ppl usually expects to show up) were considered just an afterthought.

I started playing the game when Endwalker released. I remember HATING having to wait 15 minutes just to do a dungeon. Fast Forward a year later, they added Duty Support for the older dungeons, so now newer players don't have to suffer through what we went through. I think the FF14 developers do listen to content creators, but they don't let their feedback derail their vision. If the devs completely catered to everything the veterans want, new players would never be able to catch up. FF14 is the only game I play everyday. I've been playing for two years now and every time I play, I enjoy myself.

Yesterday it was ocean fishing, before that it was PVP, and before that it was filling out my gathering log for mining and botany. For me at least, there's still plenty to try out, though I could still see why some folks might feel like their preferred content has run dry especially if they've been playing for over a decade now.

The problem is, instead of dealing with the issue and making it getting better with more content, the lack of content gets worse. Removing Bozja and the Relic chain (because handing in 1500 tomes isn't one) and instead adding variants that got stale after 2 weeks was an extremely bad move. Also, objectively, during the SHB lull we were still in the COVID period and people were staying home more.

"This game is dying." If there is one way to measure the health of a game, it probably isn't the prophecies of the playerbase. Rather, it would be the number of such prophecies. A dead game wouldn't have that many people prophecising its imminent doom.

The 'it changed now it sucks' vibe is definitely going around in a select handful of videos. The only complaint I ever have with job changes is such: If you're going to add/remove class abilities please give players with capped or previously capped jobs the option to have a pre-made abilities set of hotbars assigned so we don't look over everything to make sure we get all the abilities assigned. The only times I ever have trouble finding people to queue up with me in the duty finder is when Im playing before like 5pm on a weekday tbh, but I regularly see plenty of people running around in the main cities and out in the open world. We're between expansions right now so obviously there's gonna be a bit of a lull in activity as people go to play other games, but once Dawntrail comes out I'm sure people are gonna be coming back in droves, just like they did in Endwalker (which I wasn't around for, but I heard about how incredible the wait times were just to log in)

As a mentor I have access to the Novice Network which tells me how many Mentors to Sprouts are online. I am on a low population server and yesterday I saw roughly 50 sprouts online and 40 mentors online and this was early in the morning. So to me that is a sign the game is doing fine, if that is what the NN state was like in off peak. Given that I assume half those sprouts were bots and alts, it tells me that there are still new people coming into the game, I'll put a lot of that done to the aggressive advertising campaign SE is currently engaged in to prep for the next expansion. But 40 mentors however, that suggests veteran players of 3+ years are still very active in the game. Considering 80% of the population are neither sprouts or mentors, I feel the fears of the game dying are vastly overstated.

If I recall correctly, Yoshi P stated that Dawntrail is essentially A Realm Reborn 2. It's the launch point for *another* series of expansions, as such the game easily has another 10 years at least in it. As for the current state of the game, I think it's doing fine. Maybe the relic weapons could have been a bit more involved, but they are easily the most accessbile so far. My chronically ill and disabled partner has found them to be the by far the most enjoyable to do at the time of launch, being able to run content they find enjoyable and comfortable to do instead of going into a timed zone needing intense monotonous grinding of fates/outdoor monster.

Honestly, I think a lot of veterans have just been bored of the predictable content release pattern which is the double edge sword of stability. Also despite so many people i know saying they didn't like eurkea or bozja I think and from the cry out of it not being there, that grindy end of patch exploration zones like Eureka and bozja give people something to work towards. Sometimes retention mechanic content isn't bad and even asked for which seems to be the case this time. All that being said I agree the game is not dying not even close, this drop off happens every expansion. However what most ppl seem to miss is Endwalker or rather the lead-up was an anomaly, it was the end of 10+ year story arc and got so much extra advertisements from streamers that the player base swelled to unheard-of numbers nearly doubling compared to the other expansion growth. Because of this it is expected to have a larger drop-off due to a largely influx of new ppl. Many of them Joined for the end of the story hype train that was endlwalker which concluded within the same expansion so they left and some stayed. Which is all pretty normal. The FF14 community is healthy tho a little bored right now and that's okay.

Dead game? 🤣 My server doesn't seem to notice. Unless I play in the middle of the night, there is always a login queue.

Yeah it didn't feel good when I came back from a small hiatus happy and excited to dive into the game again only for a bunch of random youtube videos to pop up and tell me my favorite MMO is "dead". It got so annoying that I began unsubbing or outright blocking anyone who dove on that trend. As for simplification - this is the sort of thing that happens with every MMO. Sometimes it's overdone, but personally it doesn't feel that way to me. Then again I'll admit a few of the older dungeons do feel a bit...too dumbed down. I recently did Keeper of the Lake and was a little dismayed at the lack of the more special mechanics. But it's certainly not enough to make me think the game was "dead" or "too easy" now. Also 3:57 I tried extremely hard to visualize that. All I got was you eventually tripping yourself and slamming against that rock anyway. Mission failed successfully!

Your content is so cozy and real But I agree, Im still in the game and tho I'm not raiding hardcore like before and other games like BG3 are sharing my time I still find time to run with my FC and goof around.... like when we all got on gobwalkers and stormed the residential districts and wrote in peoples house guestbook

As a player of 10 years, I didn't even notice that attribute points were gone until sometime in ShB. When I did realize, I was like "Oh... good." Simplification isn't necessarily bad. I'm in my 30's now, I don't have the time to play that I did 10 or even 5 years ago, I don't mind it becoming more accessible one little bit, so long as they don't oversimplify things. And people who have been too long in the sauce are quite often failing to notice that this game is still very complex as a whole.

As someone who really doesn't like the current state of FFXIV, I don't think it's dying, I just think Endwalker has been very mid.

I will concur with others here and thank you for trying to bump against the doomium trend. For my part I admire and respect the devs trying to maintain and future-proof the earlier content, and for trying something new with island sanctuary and V&C dungeons. Calling them lazy, as some content creators have done lately, is the biggest insult I can think of and I find it shameful that people have even entertained throwing that word at CBU3. My main criticism is really only about the 2 minute meta and some job design decisions. Also, in spite of thinking the references to the lynx video was an entirely justified dunking, the further "simplification" we've seen of some jobs from Shadowbringers to Endwalker actually does have me slightly concerned. They said they were largely fine with the level of complexity in ShB, and the game grew just fine back then while the classes and raid buff distributions were as they were then. I think of stuff like Kaiten, the summoner change, how Reaper and Paladin plays at lower levels and not wanting that for every job (one job per role being really accessible is fine, but please don't make all of them like that)... I understand removing attribute distribution or TP points, but I think they could stand to be careful from here on out. That is the extent of my criticisms. Otherwise I loved pandaemonium, the myths raids were undertuned but otherwise really cool and had distinct and fun mechanics with lots of personality. I actually enjoyed the 6.x storyline by and large, I have had a lot of fun with Criterion. And I am SUPER stoked for Dawntrail.
