Oh totally agree! As someone who doesn't have the time to really dive deep into fighting games but love seeing them played well. Max does such an amazing job of explaining what's happening on screen while still being very engaging and entertaining.

I especially miss XvSF Rogue. Stealing moves like Gief’s SPD and Akuma’s Raging Demon felt godlike!!

Jubilee would be an AMAZING character. She could be physically weak but be able to stun like crazy with simple combos due to her firework powers allowing for some fun situations

That Psyloke Mirror Image move is like invisibility in a fighting game. It only benefits the the CPU opponent and is actually a flaw for human players.

I have fond memories of the Psylocke sprites from this game. Pretty sure lots of other guys who were young men when this game came out do too.

I love this game...but it also had some of my fav stages of all time especially the Danger room stage

0:52 Funny enough, while the X-Men: CoTA, MSH and X-Men vs. SF kept adding more frames of animation to each newly added character, the arcade versions of MSH vs. SF onwards actually dialed back on character animation to supposedly maintain performance and cut back on rom space. So, it's totally valid to say the early Marvel Fighting games look smoother than later entries.

Apparently it's so crazy they're actually considering remastering mvc2, that's the crazy thing, lol

@@icedcapplord710 There is no "rights". Marvel owns their characters, Disney owns Marvel, simple as that. Even before buying Fox Marvel had video game rights to everyone, they just didn't make X-Men and FF games to not promote movies they weren't making. That's all it is - pettiness.

@@CalciumChief I think a major reason why Disney doesnt want to do it is because nowadays, they dont want to make video games about something they arent promoting. Thats why we got Marvel Infinite. They were just promoting the movies the characters were in.

Old fighting games are some of the most fun you can have. It's just such a shame they're often plagued by quarter munching AI not even attempting to be fair at a certain point

Funny enough in the comics particularly in the ones that came out in the 80s and early 90s Cyclops was revealed to not only be a very competent strategist and tactician on par with Captain America when it comes to tactical knowhow and ability he was also shown to be one of the top martial artists in the comics with his array of fighting styles he knew being boxing, kickboxing, jeet-kun-do, jujitsu, karate, savate, krav-maga along with mastering the art of blind-fighting. Sadly starting with the comics in the mid 90s his martial arts skills was replaced by him spamming optic blasts of various strength and size combined with his tactical knowhow.

If we are gonna talk about how Jubilee has never been in a vs game then why has no one ever considered Beast?

4:38 - Yup for example the late Norm Spencer did the voice of Cyclops on the X-Men animated series (1992-'97) and in a handful of video games including X-Men: Children of the Atom (arcade game) (1994), X-Men vs Street Fighter (1996), Marvel vs. Street Fighter (1997), and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (2000).

Its not really a GD-ROM space issue on why MVC2 characters have way less animation. The issue actually stems way back to the CPS2 space limitations. By Marvel Super Heroes, the characters have so much animation frames they were starting to run out of ROM space. So in the VS games, they started to cut animation to fit more characters. Unfortunatelu by the time MVC2 came around although they have the space to fit, the issue became that the characters made in the VS series have anemic animation in comparison to the old ones they just stuck to the minimal animation in the VS series. Sentinel is another story though, the game would slow down so much if they did MVC2 Sentinel in XCOTA style, which is multiple sprites that animate in unison.

The sprite animations are just so gorgeous fluid and sexy, the way they shake after kicking or punching really gives off how much power they put behind their attacks

This is quickly turning into one of my favorite series!

The attract mode of this game did encourage you to do custom combos.

When Max freaked out near the end after watching Iceman's Arctic Attack hitting more in the corner, it perfectly illustrated how frustrating his previous vid's playthrough of Arcade mode was for me. Full meter for 90% of the video, only throwing out Arctic Attack from full screen for potential chip damage deaths.

Nightcrawler is not only my favorite x-men character but my favorite x-men character period. It sucks that he's never been in a versus game, especially since he already has a sprite from the old x-men beat'em up game that the devs could have reused. Hopefully if Capcom does bring back MvC, maybe they can finally add him to the roster but that's just a dream at this point.

Capcom needs to make a pure Marvel game with an insane roster size like UMVC3. That way you’d have 10 of the best X-men, a full Fantastic 4, Avengers members, Villains from Hulk, Thor and Spider-Man, and some wacky ideas like Howard the Duck and Devil Dinosaur. It would be a win win

Me and my brother just discovered an arcade today that has an X-Men cabinet and we played that for like three hours. This game's fun as heck and it's really cool to play the very first game in a series that would eventually lead to one of my favorite games ever, UMvC3 Also Nightcrawler is 100% my most wanted character for a potential new installment in MvC. From my understanding there are three different kinds of teleport in Marvel (Relative to oneself, relative to opponent, and relative to stage) and his specials could just be all the different types of teleportation with probably some attacks you can do out of them.

As I said in the previous video, that intro is godly. And regarding the X-Men to Rest of Marvel ratio, that's not gonna be nearly as big as it was in the 90's (especially in the Era of the Avengers). At best, in a roster of 25-30 Marvel characters, 4-6 mutants sounds about right.

As Max says, a quarter of the Marvel cast in a fighting game being X-Men is as it should be. Forget the past, forget the MCU making the Avengers popular. In terms of Marvel Comics representation in a fighting game, it evenly splits like this: Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers, other. For the last part, unless they start using the weirder characters, like Man-Thing, Simon Garth, Machine Man or Devil Dinosaur. You quickly see a lot of: Wo/man with Gun/Sword. Which gets real samey, real fast.

@@Void_Out But a lot of the popular characters aren't very diverse. Punisher would be great. But he is just another guy with weapons. UA 3 showed character like the GoTG boil down to 'man with knives, with gun, swords etc Man-Thing, for example, would be trippy as hell. Blackheart showed how the weirder characters work really well in a Fighting game.

COTA has some of the best Capcom arcade music of all time (Cyberbots as well) and it had so much personality!! Seeing pro combos in this game still blows my mind today. I'm so glad I got the PC port randomly from a friend a couple of years ago. I might have to run a VM to play it but I heard it was solid! Cyclops was so insane in EVERY game he was in!! You best believe if ol' Clops was in the roster, he could break the game if no one else could!! R.I.P. Norman Spencer (voice of Cyclops).
