This game is legit one of the greatest fighting games ever made and nobody talks about it. Everything about it, from the audio design, the music, and the FUCKING STAGES. Wolverine's stage is easily the greatest fighting game stage of all time.

yep. Capcom showed a lot of love doing this game. i only wish it had a bigger character cast (looking back, it's not fair that they only saved Thor for Cap's ending, for one thing), but even so MSH is still phenomenal.

Man imagine going to watch Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and one guy says “Yo is that Shuma-Gorath from Mahvel Super Heroes, Mahvel 2, and UMVC3”.

Well, I really only knew of most of these characters because of MVC. I knew about Dormammu thanks to MVC3.

Y’know, much as we want a new MvC, I honestly wouldn’t mind another Marvel-only game using the Capcom fighting engine. Heck with how huge and full of variety the Marvel stable is now, why not a 2v2 or 3v3 Marvel-only game? Like say if they make slight tweaks to the Ultimate Alliance 3 roster, I feel that would already be good.

This game is where the gameplay got a lot more fluid and faster paced, similar to the later VS games, love this game man. And i still stand by the character select screen being one of the very best in fighting game history.

Its because the VS games are more flashy and the tag system took to much memory from the ram, so they have to cut frames per second to make those games viable from cps2 system

Juggernaut main here, but spiderman was always fun to play. Honestly, all of the characters in this one are fun.

This is it. This is the game that really got me into fighting games. I had played plenty of SFII at home, but going to the arcade and seeing how beautiful and fun MSH was made me want to keep coming back to play it and improve. My dad's not so much into video games, but he liked Iron Man, and this had him in it. So we'd visit the arcade at the mall almost every week to play MSH. I then saved up enough money to buy my own Sega Saturn with a copy of MSH, and we'd play together at home (Dad also loved Virtua Cop). Lots of great memories stemming from Marvel Super Heroes. I'll never get tired to playing this.

That’s so sweet

I used to play this game ALL the time on PS1, I always loved Shuma-Gorath's music theme and Spiderman's stage was my favorite. So many memories of holding tournaments with my buddies and my cousins with this game, I love it!

That was cool to see Thanos use the mind stone. He rarely and I mean RARELY ever uses that.

You can play him with cheat codes and use it yourself. Mind and time were two supers he lost when going into MvC2, along with all his crazy boss normal attacks.

That many of them basically shared engines and hardware platforms helped a LOT. As did not really caring a flip about that pesky thing called "competitive balance". Just make 'em all rich and broken (more because of the overall play system than the characters themselves, really), and relatively unbuggy, and let the players figure shit out.

Back then i thought this was easy, until someone said "Now you face DOOM!"

God I hated Thanos in MSH. That game introduced me to the character, the bastard stealing all of the stones you've collected through arcade mode was so so douchey. Still one of my favorites Marvel Capcom fighters, I had it on Sega Saturn as a kid.

@@clementwang7097 Of course they are. I don't bash the game for it, losing over and over taught me to get better until I took Thanos out. I grew up with Mortal Kombat's cheap A.I and I respect those old games for being difficult.

The smoothest looking game in the series, in my opinion. So many frames per character, not even the saturn port with the ram cart could handle all that animation.

I don't use the word "dope" anymore but THAT ending was dope

Marvel Super Heroes, my favorite Marvel fighting game! Always preferred 1v1 more than team VS games (as a spectator it’s very fun to watch).

Magneto be like: “Is that gauntlet made of space metal? 😏”

The arcade in my local bowling alley had this as a kid. Whenever my dad had league nights I spent SO many quarters on this game. Spiderman and Darkheart were my go to characters. This game was so much fun even though I had NO idea what I was doing back then lol

I always loved the pseudo 3D backgrounds in Iron Man's stage (look at the green tunnels)

I have a feeling max, yipes, and Justin were told by capcom of a MVC comeback. I even believe they were shown that game.

The very first Marvel fighting game for me back when my mall had the arcade there in the food lobby with all the different restaurants. I miss this game so much! I would definitely love to see this game again❤️

You can play it with mame, or play the Sega Saturn, or PS1 versions.

I hope the talks end up being successful and we get a collection of both but looking that now the Disney collection has the snes capcom aladin it looks like they are goin well.

Magneto's ending is pretty dang heroic

Magneto's ending is actually an all around good one. Mutants get a place to live in peace and humanity isn't annihilated because he's not a total prick anymore!

I'd be interesting if Max did a run through playing the Japanese version as Anita from Darkstalkers.

Man, to think that Magneto's ending is kinda canon nowadays, with all mutants living in a paradise in the moon, sure he didn't create it, but it happened.

I still watch it... I loved the Dynamics between Magic and Technology... Essentially Manipulation of reality through the Self, or through Design of external devices to achieve the same goal. That was only one incarnation of that duality.... Essentially one for the kids to use as recall.

I'm just realizing that Thanos did not keep a lot of his special moves from this game as a boss to MVC2 as a playable character. And MVCi Thanos is a completely different character.

Damn, thank you Max! I have very faint memories of my first fighting game that my parents rented from Blockbuster when I was a kid. I had no idea what the game was, but I remember I played Wolverine and there was destructible stages. It's drove me mad for years! It was Marvel Super Heroes...still looks as impressive as I remember. Amazing stages, sprites, and animation, even now. Thanks again, my own private mystery at last solved LOL

Always thought it was interesting that they made Shuma a normal, non-imposing character like he isn’t a threat FAR worse than Thanos in comic lore lol

I think this could be because a lot of Marvel fans were deep into 90s X-Men love, so knowledge of the rest of Marvel’s stable was limited. Otherwise yeah, guys like Shuma and Blackheart would normally be on the same level of Thanos or possibly even more.

i was playing this recently....love this game. the music and art is wicked....love watching you kick ass!

Me and a friend first played this at a place called Trader's Village back in '97 on arcade machine. It's a big outdoors place. His mom was looking for us for a while because she was ready ro leave and when she found us she smacked him up bad. Security had to escort us out 🤣

Best Hulk ever in a game. Well, all the others too. The sprites and the animation is beautiful.

I remember this game, Street Fighter Alpha and Mk3 having massivs crowds at my local arcade back in '96. I always had to settle for Virtua Fighter and MK2 because the teens were always hogging those 3 games.

This was always one of my favorites growing up. Art style, stages, the use of the gems. Need another 2D fighter like this.

Shuma Gorath was so obscure to me that I thought he was a Capcom character.

Great video. I remember playing this game in the arcade and playing it on my Sega Saturn. So fun. I used every character to see which Gem worked best with each character. Capcom 2D fighting games is the main reason I bought a Sega Saturn.

I missed when X-men characters had the coolest supers with the call out in the background. X!

This one tries to bring some method to X-Men's madness, but was still an awesome game that let you still do some crazy things if you could figure them out! First time I played, I had Captain America, and when I saw Magneto was my opponent, I thought. "Uh oh, I'm screwed." Of course this was before I knew what it meant to nerf a character.

There's a comic place near me that has arcade machines you can just play this being one of them. I'd mark out if they ever get a mvc2 machine.

Magneto had the best ending in this game

I adore how this game looks and sounds. Sure, the game is broken even by Marvel standards, but it's got that certain "something" that I just can't quite put into words. If I were to show someone what Capcom were like during their prime, this is the title I would use as an example.

Man....I'll never forget this was one of my first ps1 games. I sold the rest of my genesis games (cuz my ma gave my console to my sister who didn't even use it

Fun fact: Star Gladiator was originally going to be a Star Wars fighting game. Now I'm sad this didn't happen, because I could see that as a similar game to MSH with Force abilities.

This is my first introduction to infinity war way back 1995... I always used Spider-Man and do the Spider sting infinite.

I played this at my local arcade back in 1995. The characters were cool and it played smoother than X-Men cota.

Wasn't this the game of the VS series where Spidey is at least an 8 to 0 matchup against the whole cast, or something like that?

Man, this Thanos looks so much better than the shiny armor version in the most recent MvC games.

MY GOD THE ANIMATION'S MAN LOOK AT HOW FLUID AND SMOOTH THEY LOOK....If they do end up bringing MVC2 back they should bring back all the missing animations and even bring back some of these fighting stages since hardware has advanced it should be possible because of how much more memory everything has now compared to 20 years ago...

I need to play this game again. I think Space Gem gives Magneto his force field. BTW A video about how each Gem effects each character would be a great 👍video too. Thanks.
