Gayrson with Grapeshot alone is terrifying, knowing how many “copy spell” spells/effects that are in red/blue. Izzet is staying true to its tried and true guns: it burns down everything creatively.

you could also have something like urza's armor, which would be possibly to tutor up with fabricate or saheeli, though i think pure aggression is the way to go

I feel like this commander was tailor made for all the old blue Tims that ping for 1: Prodigal Sorcerer, Zuran Enchanter, that sort of thing.

This is a great commander for evasive 1/1, goblins, or devils.

@@helios566 and they have 1 power so effectively they are 3 power, or if your commander has deathtouch then they are effectively 3/1s with deathtouch that ping a player for 3 when they die or outright kill a creature when they die. Pretty strong

This deck gives me flashbacks to my friend’s “choices” Yurlock deck. Everything you do will hurt you, so you have to make a lot pf tense choices. Mana burn, tap land burn, end step and upkeep burn. Burn burn burn pain pain pain suffering suffering suffering.

This is a commander that is never bad, but the ceiling is cEDH absolutely. My group is already brewing it for competitive.

Pyrohemia is also good when you have protection from red or indestructable on him. Paired with curiousity and basalisk collar your netting 5 like in a 4 player game per 1 red mana

Adding to this list, stuffy doll would basically do 5 damage for free each turn. Then another 5 for any spells that do 1 damage to every creature. That is, if I'm not misunderstanding how that would play out.

Locust God and Grafted Exoskeleton make this so devastating

Definitely building it. Just the weak spells like dual shot, blazing volley or anything where you can choose how to distribute damage like magic missile becomes multi target removal or token sweepers. Or I have a kelsien the plague deck where the whole thing is giving creatures like shock maw dragon death touch and every time they attack they ping the board for one. Even something like devil tokens. They have to block them or they’re just gonna keep getting lightning bolts to the face. But if they do get blocked now it’s a double lightning bolt. Or the amount of red creatures that ping something when they block or become blocked. On top of just all the tap ping everyone cards…

It'd be fun to make a curious control deck with this commander. You'd be drawing so many cards from all your pinging.

Building a Veyron deck...If I'm reading this right one of the creatures that do 1 dmg when an instant/sorcery is cast will double with Veyron plus do 4 from Ghyrson...Going to need it.

This is when you also need to mention Urza's Armor so a lot of these effects are negated for you all the 1 damage global effects become just your opponents with that and makes things incredibly lopsided. With the effect "If a source would deal damage to you, prevent 1 of that damage." and also being insanely budget friendly at $0.18 I am just surprised it was not in this video.

Orbs of Warding also does this. Slap any pro-red on your boy and you can burn the world down very quickly. God forbid you have a neheb with the post-combat mana effect for the damage you did this turn and well you have a stew brewing.

@@saman7890 Orb doesnt work as well as it only prevents creature damage and a lot of the good globals are enchants so it doesn't stop those but having both in deck could be nice.

As soon as I saw this I knew it would make a fine addition to my Nekusar the Mindrazer deck. My friends will love me even more :)

Impact tremors + Goblin Slide + Raid bombarment could be game ending in this deck.

Defiler of Instinct is insane with this card. As long as you can draw cards (curiosity), you can put a lifelink equipment on Ghyrson, play lots of red permanents without using red mana, hit something, gain life, draw a card, and maybe cast another red permanent to keep going. All you need then is infinite mana, and as long you are playing pretty much mono red, you can play your whole deck. Treasonous Ogre might work for the "infinite mana" part as long as you can keep gaining life with Impact Tremors or something

Very good with curiosity and similar effects. Turn your pings into card draw

Instant add to my locust god deck. Good for all the goblin bombardment/impact tremors effects

How about Niv Mizzet Paruun? Anytime anyone casts an instant or sorcery, draw a card and lightning bolt any target 🤙

End the Festivities from Crimson Vow could do pretty well, one red mana sorcery that deals 1 damage to each opponent and each creature and planeswalker they control

Also nice with creatures with power 1 that can get through more easily like with shadow or those that are unblockable. Those typically have low mana value as well

Manabarbs isn’t very symmetrical, since you just pool your mana before playing it, then your opponent’s deal with it first.

if u leave out roiling vortex u can run fires of invention to avoid the burn from manabarbs and such. Torbran can be a good backup commander for this deck but i dont think it would do anything if u have ur commander on field

Izzet has been my fav color combo since I got introduced to Magic, which was only a few years ago when Niz Mizzet Parun was in standards so it was one of the Ravnica sets when arena came out I'm almost certain. Since then I got more into commander and this is what I've been waiting for it seems, this card makes a lot of budget cards seem ridiculous lol.

Pyrohemia with this , you need to give him pro-red first ... or indestructible. But then ... oh boy :)

Tibalt rakish instigator would be great for this too, makes 1/1 cannon fodder that will deal 3 damage to anything when they die and he'll prevent your opponents from gaining life.

@@mitch5387 The emblems are created by your opponents, so Ghyrson doesn't work with them. See the interaction ruling between the Chandra emblems and Fiery Emancipation.

They could be 3/3 tokens, Ghyrson doesn't care, Ghyrson doesn't give a shit

I can imagine someone doing the "create 1/1 elemental swarm" strategy to swarm enemies with and it backfiring horribly by someone playing a rakdos charm. (each of the creatures would do 1 damage to that player and if they control the creature it deals one damage to ANY player including themselves, they take 3 damage instead of 1 as the card has no friendly fire safeguard!)

Add magebane armor, easy to tutor artifacts in blue.

Too much leaning into the red side. Should have mentioned some blue like using spark double, Sakashima, Vesuvian Duplimancy, helm of the host effects on the commander

Ooh! It may be a double-edged sword, but with the right build, it can just SWEEP! Looking forward to including it in my future Tyranid Tribal deck. Definitely NOT looking forward to seeing it as an Izzet commander. I’ve been steamrolled by competitive Izzet before, and I’m still working through the pain.

I have an izzet storm card draw deck with niv mizzet (firemind) as it’s commander and this card will definitely be going into it😂

Alright so question would this commander and work with damage multipliers? For instance you go to deal 1 then Ghyrson steps in and deals 2, fiery emancipation is out: go to deal the 1 it's now 3 then go to deal the 2 it's now 6 or would it not work like that?

You take 3 from him, and another 4 from my commander. Wait sorry no I forgot I have Fiery Emancipation in play, better make that 9 and 12 respectively for 21 damage from a single ping this turn. Oh silly me, forgetting the Sparkmage is equipped with Illusionist's Bracers.. better make that 42 damage."

Torbran disables Starn's effect as the ping is no longer 1 damage. Same with Fiery Emancipation.

its good in theory, but I cannot use this deck in my group... My group is more likely take No for Creature/commander in field, almost our commander deck consist Destroy, exile, transform any creature or NONLAND Permanent mostly we win cause of 2 card combo WIN.

Furnace of rath and all damage multiplying effects afaik are replacement effects, meaning they don't use the stack

Niv-Mizzet would deal one when you draw a card, and this commander would deal two additional. The only thing that this commander cares about is that one point of damage.

@@joeyshafer5479 I’m thinking the way to go is with a spellslinger strategy where you deal damage with Kessig Firebreather, Firebrand Archer, or anything else that deals damage on casting spells. Add in Murmuring Mystic and Young Pyromancer to make 1/1 creatures. Witty Roastmaster or Impact Tremors to deal damage when creatures ETB. Locust God for when you draw cards.

Curiosity lets you draw cards every time you deal damage to an opponent. 😱
