In that commanders defense I believe the precon is built around him so lots of artifact creatures and whatnot so your chances are pretty high to hit

@@patrickwhitworth1470 the issue I see with him in a four player game you will do great against the first opponent, sweating against the second and trounced by third. In the pre made too many deck wipes and battlefield wipes. Never mind individual direct artefact counters. To make the cron deck work your constantly burning your deck, your graveyard, your life and your creatures. That leaves you little left by the end. Now add in a few cards from outside premade then it’s different. Multiple ways for unlimited turns, mana, life, creatures or damage potential.

@@Docktavion Well you're not fighting three players one at a time. You're fighting three people at once. Which means every opponent is also fighting three other people, which include two of the people you are fighting. Unless you get super ahead early and become archenemy you won't be the only one burning resources to play the game. In fact with the amount of recursion effects and general value engines the Necron deck is on paper the best deck to go for long grindy attrition games.

Yea necron was the 1 deck I bought because I love mono black commander decks and the deck comes with 3 great commanders. Sadly none are the face commander lol

Can confirm. My first list(definitely needs tweaking) still was doing at leat 6 damage to everyone on my turns, up to 12 if I was popping off. I was attacked my my wife's Angry Jellybean deck (64 damage in elementals) and I was able to clear her entire army without taking any damage. I have updated my list and I'm excited to see if it's going to work out how I imagine it would.

I see the same issue with Karn. You COULD team up with someone and pass him back and forth, OR you could get betrayed and then sit there and cry as the other 3 pass your commander around like a village bicycle.

As someone who has only played magic a few times but is really into 40K lore the idea of Marneus fucking Calgar becoming the ubernecromancer with a mind-bogglingly huge zombie army using some kind of eldritch alien monstrosity to power it hurts my brain. But also, that's fucking brilliant.

Another great video. I think we're starting to get enough of these videos to where it could be beneficial going forward to give the Most Powerful Commanders and the Golden Pig/Toilet their own playlists. That way people can easily marathon any category they like.

I had one game online with Szarek and in that entire match he swung 7 times and whiffed ALL 7 TIMES. He should have been worded any artifact of those 3, otherwise it specifying creature/vehicle it should have been from any in graveyard not those specific 3 milled that particular attack. Anrakyr has felt the best at the helm of the precon for consistant payoffs. Trazyn piloting non-precon decklists will be wild though.

I'm buying two necron precons for specifically building one of the decks around Trazyn the Infinite. The other I plan on playing as necron/artifact creature tribal, and would probably go for Anrakyr too, since I don't like how very specific and tame the Szarek's ability is

I've already got Trazyn to be lined up with any tutor I can get my hands on, buried alive, lightning greaves, pili-pala, palladium myr, and walking ballista.

The idea that we would go the whole video without seeing Magnus, have the intro for S tier, and THEN come back to 'btw he's not all he's cracked up to be' is PERFECT Magnus energy.

Any card that does one point of damage each turn + the cascade grixis dude = faithless looting, lightning bolt or any blue cantrip cascading into inevitable betrayal

Inquisitors Greyfax seems kind of fun as a deck for creatures like giant killer and gideons lawbringer. Attack in and tap everything down so they can't block or just never let them attack themselves

Belisarius Cawl with the enchantment Intruder Alarm in a artifact deck is pretty spicy especially since there's a ton of artifacts that don't actually have a tarp ability, couple him with shorikai, Genesis engine and a palladium myr and you have infinite astartes tokens, pilots and mana

I read Kharn triggers on death or flickering. Doesn’t help much in mono red I guess but does make him better

I am going to get the Necron deck, mostly because i am a necron player on the table top... But Trayzin is going to be fun.

I find it very odd that a good amount of other content creators don't rate Szarek as being trash. Even with the context of the deck being more or less built around him, he just isn't good, even I can tell as much :o

Same. He's so underwhelming. He has to attack, just so you can mill yourself 3 cards to get something to your hand. Not battlefield, hand. There's just so little synergy to play with, especially when compared to other commanders in the deck. Szeras and Anrkaryr get you direct advantage for your troubles. Trazyn's just bonkers and Imotekh has a lot synergies to play and mess around with.

Szarek is underwhelming as commander. But this is a good utility in the 99 with heavy artifact creatures and/or vehicles.

While I do not think it will change the tier that The Swarmlord is in, will say a 6 cmc that is a 7/7 to start is really nice. The power/toughness of the creature always stays 1 over his casting cost, so not too bad

Lucius the Eternal flavour is fucking great. The character's whole thing is that if whoever killed him feels any pride from the action he ressurects controling said person's body and the persons face is added to his armor

I wish he also put 2-3 time counters on the chosen creature, and removed 1 on each of your upkeep, then sacrifice it when they are all removed

im a little bit underwhelmed with the legendaries in the tyrannid deck.. because i really like the deck. but neither of the two face commanders really do it for me the one i would prefer because it is a real tyrannid.. costs 6 mana wich i absolutly dont like and the other one is a human ... i mean c´mon why give the human that good ability and not the tyrannid swarmlord ?

Disclaimer, I play only with out-of-the-box precons, no changes. With that said, I don't see how The Swarmlord is going to be cast more than 1-2 times in a pure precon bash game, so I'd definitely dump it down to C or D tier. You just won't see it on the field much, even at a literal precon level of play.

I bought 2 Necrons deck for that purpose. One unchanged and one I can change at will. I think Anrakyr is the best one out-of-the-box. I've a warhammer playgroup I brought to magic thx to theses deck, so the goal is clearly playing WARHAMMER with cards.

Kinda surprised guilliman isnt in the Imperium deck, hell I might have to buy the chaos one for magnus and mortarian lol.

She’s an amazing slot in to life gain decks but I agree not the greatest commander.

I would of put the traveler at A tier because the moment he attacks, he is allowed to instant speed in ANY artifact including protection or w.e u want. The infinite def is an S tier. Ofc u can tell I just play mono black lol

Played magus made a copy of Magnus who helps me put more into my X instant sorc. Ya it was fun

Man I wish Marneus had red, him + Locust God go infinite, granted you need a win con or you will deck but still would be fun

Neyam shai could be good for board politics. "Hey take this damage and you can return that card from your graveyard. But could you return this one for me?"

I must say that I like the commander choices for necrons, but szarekh also didn't do it as a commander for me.

I disagree with one statement you made on Celestine. Urza not included, Mono Blue is very much weaker. It's just not totally crippled like it is in other formats. Blue has been the new white for 10 years at least.

As Mono color, if you think twice, they're all not that great, except for decks with stupidly strong commander such as Urza, K'rrik/Yawgmoth, Magda, Selvala/Marwyn and Oswald. But if you speak for colours in any combinaison, nowadays, I agree, Blue is the weakest of them all. Outside of Counterspells, Fish, R.Study and C.Rift, they have nothing crazy to add to the combinaison. Green and Black are probably the strongest one for Tutors in play, Ramp/Dork and explosive mana / Tutors, Explosive mana and Rituals(often at cost of life) respectively, they both tend to close out the game way faster. Red is in the in-between with some of the most ridiculous ways of getting mana (in 1st place = Dockside Extorsionist, but there is also cards like Birgi, Jeska's Will...), Stax and rituals. White do have the best stax and the best removals and since few years, very strong white cards have been printed such as Archivist of Oghma, Esper Sentinel, Deep Gnome Terramancer and Farewell for exemple which helps White for REAL. I think blue lacks originality the most and that is the main problem of this colour.

Yall are forgetting bel' akor. Would be. Best in all demon deck.

I’m new to commander, and confused. If you make your commander a mono color card, wouldn’t that mean you can only have cards in your deck that match the color of the commander? So how can the Red Terror be a commander if it invalidates all the non-red cards on your deck?

The pre-constructed decks have one legendary creature that has the correct colors for the entire deck, and that's the creature labeled the commander. The Red Terror couldn't be the commander of the Tyranid pre-con, but it could be the commander for a mono-red deck.

I’m sad celestine wasn’t an angel or even a demon because she has the same aura as a demon prince according to psykers and other people who are sensitive to the warp

The cascade commander looks dope. Also im a death guard player so naturally im leaning towards the chaos deck. Can't wait for this cross over. 40k and magic, both i love very much. Them combined? Perfect nerd world created for me❤️👌🏼😁

I personaly would trade Abbadon and Be'lakor. Abbadon is just a lesser version of Yidris, Mealstorm Wielder. And Be'lakor is a new good Demon Tribal commander.

Not sure I agree on Lucious, def not S tier but mix it with a couple grave pact effects and giggle all night long. I'm agreeing with most placements on this list a few C tiers I disagree with wanting to move them up and a B tier I want to move down but most are close. I am bothered by one thing you said though, about the Kellermorph "with the right setup" with the right setup any of these commanders could be amazing Belesarious in an artifact deck for instance seems pretty broken. It's obvious to me that at least in the one dudes case your listening to other peoples opinions and regurgitating it rather then actually looking at them unbiased.

Correction: swarmlords mana value is six not seven. While not much of a difference I find quite funny that mitch harps on the one cards mana value he gets wrong. Anyway szarekh is probably the biggest disappointment. Way too situanational to even be worth the miniscule payoff even in his own precon. While on the other end trazyn is so broken he is actually hold back by the precon and i look forward to someone making an alter of his art that replaces his sceptre with a guitar. fits in my opinion quite well.

Monored is by far the worst monocolor, not even close, especially in casual EDH

13:40 I disagree with that statement. Mono White if based on Life Gain is really strong and hard to handle, there's also a lot of strong creatures that you can cheat from your graveyard. And if the only limitation is that you need to gain life in a mono white commander deck you can be 100% sure that you will have your creature back from the grave at the end of turn. You just have to build strong creatures with effect when they come in play (like exile 2 permanent) and it's just easy to win.

Szarek being bad makes me so sad. The deck is so promising and then there's this guy.

they really should have split the imperiam deck into two one with Austraties Grey knights and talons and the other would be Guard sisters and Admech i think some players will feel their aren't enough space marine commanders but also Guard and admech don't have much representation. the decks main mechanic feels guard but really it has two card three if you count plows to sheers plus tokens.

WOTC should not have begun selling small sets, of mostly in-demand reprints, for short limited time frames online. Many products are now geared for “whale” buyers and are priced out of many fans’ budgets. Many of WOTC’s current business practices have ever more prayed upon their customers weeknesses taking advantage of human faults such as the “fear of missing out” in limited printings, and “gambling addictions” by offering chase cards you have to open many packs to try and find. WOTC is scheduling and releasing so many new Magic products that many players can’t keep up and have no time to fully “digest” a product before the next set is released and stretching budgets thin. The core of the game has gone from a largely “player’s game” to a largely “collector’s game.” Crazy mechanics and themes like those that have appeared previously in silver-bordered “Un” sets should stay out of eternal formats. “Un” sets should remain silver-bordered. Characters from outside WOTC owned properties should remain their own things and stay out of Magic: the Gathering. WOTC has made these changes to sell more product and make more money, trying to capitalize on the fact that Commander has eclipsed all other formats. Many products look like blatant cash grabs. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Magic has drastically changed direction over the last four years and it is not appealing to me now. It’s lost the nostalgia that brought me back in 2016. I’m not about “New Magic” and this Saturday, a week before the first widely available Universes Beyond set and the first black-bordered “un” set is released, I let my Commander playgroup know that it was my last day. Meh, pretty bad list. I know it's one year old at this point, but still. Cannot possibly understand how he would consider Eisenhorn, Celestine or Anrakyr on the same level as Khan, Lucius or Cawl...in fact these should all be poop tier. The Silent King, although underwhelming, should be higher than those options. I mean, I can see a combo deck using Szeras, but what what possible scenario would make Cawl actually strong? Even with a perfect setup, what's the big payoff?! None! Anrakyr on the other hand has A MASSIVE payoff if you set it up correctly. Eisenhorn may seem underwhelming at first, and if you focus on the Chaerubae part of the ability than yeah...not so great, but the awesome part is the clue portion. Think about it, give him evasion and attach a Nettlecyst and cranial plating and you have a gigantic commander that grows with each hit. I don't know what WoTC was smoking when they made the first ability though...it dosn't add anything to his kit. At least the Chaerubae could grant Eisenhorn protection, evasion or something.

Honesty these decks are a huge disappointment. From the number of quality reprints to thier functionality Im really unimpressed. The fact the then have the gaul to up the price is rediculous. And 220$ for the premium F that. As a player of MTG since the revised days, and a 40K player since the Rogue Traders days I had high hopes. Bummed they wanted $880. 150ea was my cap unless there was real value reprinted or they were a really neat or special functioning cube. As is I’ll stay away from the Taco Foils and just buy the regular versions. -bummed
