I actually disagree. I understand his method, pain stimulates the brain. The doctor assumed “if I put him in as much pain as possible his brain won’t go crazy.” similar to how people with tourette’s can sing a whole song without having a single tick because their brain is already being simulated by something else. But the doctor didn’t realise how much it was deteriorating his health.

@@panashe5268 I might’ve actually agreed with you had the doctor not just tortured and degraded George physically, but verbally as well. There was no need for Monro’s harsh words given his other “treatments” for the king. Plus, I think it’s made quite obvious that he simply craved control. Given the fact that he knew that stress and nerves triggered George’s condition, and the only reason why he would relay to George that Charlotte was pregnant in such a manner would be to trigger him so he could have control over him again (Monro’s control and power over George was clearly slipping once Charlotte and George started spending more time together). He might’ve tried to convince himself and others that his intentions were good, but that doesn’t mean that they were. Not to mention him clearly wanting to hide his “treatments” from Charlotte. That “doctor” knew that what he was doing was wrong and not helping George at all. In fact, who’s to say that he did not just aggravate George’s condition further???

It was a surprise to me that this episode gave insight into why Lord Hastings treated Simon the way that he did. It was still disgusting but now I can understand the extreme that he and others (including George's mom) went to in order to keep his lineage intact.

@@Vi-lz8ev The words that Lord Hastings called Simon, "imbecile, idiot, and half-wit" were what he thought of his son. The imperfections that he believed could potentially strip everything that he worked for away. Remember Lady Danbury saying that they could lose it all in a generation, the lands, the title "a taste of rarity, equality." There was already a fear of losing it. He was excited to finally have a son that he could pass it down keeping his lineage intact (so much so that he didn't even seem to care that his wife was dying) but finding out that his son didn't measure up in his eyes. Simon would be seen as less than and since there wasn't any precedent for black titled aristocrat, who's to say that they wouldn't use that as an excuse to take everything away? He decided to hide him away, telling people that he was dead to avoid the shame. Then, look at what Princess Augusta did. "No room for illness or weakness, only power." Perfection. She wanted to fix him so bad that she ended up making him worse off, like it's a possibility George only had anxiety in the beginning although I do think there was other issues going on. Notice he had a panic attack in the instances that he felt overwhelmed from the responsibilities of the crown, and I don't think it should be a surprise that it was when he was dealing with his mother. In both cases, the extremes that their parents went to made their situations worse. Simon only needed a tutor and George (potentially) only needed in the beginning to find a way to deal with his anxiety,

He never got better per se, but he was more stable until their youngest (and favourite) daughter died. Once she died, he was more permanently unwell and his oldest son was made prince regent (why it’s called regency era), until his death (about 10 years)

In the past, Lady Danbury was not acquainted with Violet. Not really. I mean, Violet was hardly a teenager back then, and Lady Danbury was older and in a different circle. To her, this was just another part of this white family of Lords and Ladies and they were forced to be in a same circle, in a way. Except this Lord was different. He was her friend, the first man in her life (hell, probably the only man) that actually saw her as she is, not as she has to be. He encouraged her, praised her, listened to her, and this was the first time that she was desired not because she's a female and he has male needs - it was so much more than that. She's a beautiful woman of many opinions and principles and a fantastic sense of humour, I mean, who wouldn't fall for her, being her friend and getting to actually know her? We somehow never considered it because Violet was so much in love with her Edmund, but it does not mean her father, whom she loved dearly, was ever in love with her mother. By the look of things, Violet was the only thing keeping them together as a family.

To answer your question about whether or not this story is a book: short answer is yes! Long answer is that the book was written by the author after the screenplay was written by Shonda Rhimes! The author, Julia Quinn, explained it at a book signing of hers I was lucky enough to be at this weekend! Super cool collab.

Bryce: "And potentially proceeded to... garden with him" - totally loved that line. good job, boys, very entertaining :D
"Quickening" is when a mother feels the fetus movements, around 16-20 weeks. It's weird that the doctor simply spoke for Charlotte by saying quickening had occurred, but perhaps he asked her off screen away from the Dowager Princess? If his exam was prolonged, it's either creepy patriarchy or because a speculum exam of the cervix would be really tough with 1700s tools and low lighting. (Speculums were minted in 1845 but similar tools have been around since the Roman Empire). He was probably looking for the Chadwick sign to confirm the pregnancy. The Chadwick sign is when the cervix appears blue-ish purple starting ~6 weeks into pregnancy and lasts until after delivery. It occurs due to increased blood flow, but it isn't a sure sign since hormonal changes can do the same thing. My biggest concern is that his hands weren't sterile (and sterile gloves didn't exist yet), so he could easily pass an infection to the mother and fetus - with potentially serious consequences to the baby.
Wooohoo am currently binge watching your Bridgerton playlist and this drops. What a treat for me 💃🏾
"Your garden's in bloom?"🤯
Violet was much too young to be Agatha’s friend back then and she could have grown up to become like her indoctrinated mother instead of her dad… hope the moment when they did become friends is portrayed sometime in a future season

26:40 As far as the marriages of the first four sons of George and Charlotte go, George hated his wife, and I think Frederick was the one who said he hadn't seen his wife in 20 years, but William who had that good moment with Charlotte from what I've heard had a happy marriage with his wife though any children they had died in infancy (he had 10 children out of wedlock from before he met her I think but he provided for them and apparently his wife accepted them and may have even loved them to some degree). Edward (the other one who just got married) I'm not sure about though some say that it was because he died that his wife/widow fell prey to Conroy manipulating her because her husbands death left her in vulnerable state. I guess the writers picked William (future King William the fourth since his brother Frederick died when their brother George was George the fourth and since George had no children apart from the daughter who died in episode 1) as the one to get the scene with Charlotte because his marriage was a reasonably happy one as far as royal marriages go.

I watched them back to back so not sure if it was this one or the last one you wondered what colic was. Colic is basically when a baby cries too much without any obvious reason, it’s pain in the abdomen caused by trapped wind or obstruction in the intestines possibly due to digestive issues or intolerances. It’s not entirely known what exactly causes it. The rule of 3 for a diagnosis is crying episodes lasting 3 hours a day, occurring 3 times a week for more than 3 weeks. It usually happens in the afternoon and doesn’t usually last after they are 6 months old.
Lady Danbury is a Queen in her own right, couldn't watch that horrid torture scene just couldn't, Plus I really want to see Lady Danbury's Bridgerton Story and Violet and Lord Bridgerton A Bridgerton Love Story, those should be the next ones. great reaction.

I am convinced that Marcus Anderson (supposed love interest of Violet Bridgeton, in the upcoming season 3) is actually Lady Danbury and Lord Ledgers love child!
I think the doctor enjoyed having and wielding power over the most powerful man in the world (at that time). I wonder if we'll ever get a back story on Violet and Edmund.
The quickening is just when you start feeling the baby move around and kick.
Well, she wasn't friends with Violet at the time and had no way of knowing she would be, ever. I think they only really got to be close friends during the first two seasons, though. There is a Queen Charlotte book, but it was made after the show by Shonda Rhimes and Julia Quinn (the author of the original novels).
I think wht ppl do not see is that lady danbury and violet's father fell in love bcs they were friends, bcs they did not see each other as objects, lady danbury is tired of being seen as just an object and he is tired of having a wife that just wants his title and does not understand him.
My feelings were exactly same as feelings you guys had..
The way I get soooooo excited for these reactions........I should really be embarrassed 😂😝.......alas......I am not!
The Quickening is the like very first early stage pregnancy movement noted by the mother. Basically in those times, the earliest and probably only way to a certain degree to know if the baby is alive thus if the pregnancy is likely viable because you know, there was no ultrasound machines and such…
