More fun BTS facts: the graphics department, which is the department I'm a part of, does all the letters. In fact, I was the person doing Queen Charlotte's letters. I researched her real life handwriting and learned how to write like her. So you might be wondering, if I wrote them, how is she writing on camera? Well, I write one full letter and make copies of that same letter for the various takes. Some copies are fully written, some are only half written with the other half very faint and faded for the actress to write on top of. Some are fully written but only the signature is missing for a signature shot. So it's loads of copies at different stages of writing so that the director (who is an amazing person btw) can be playful with his takes. Because main actors are expensive, they also had a black stand-in actress for the closeup shots of just the hand writing the letter. I had to teach the stand-in very quickly how to use the pen for them to take the shots. I am a white man with terrible looking bitten nails and Queen Charlotte is a beautiful black woman with lovely nails so there is no way I could write on camera myself even though they tried without my fingers showing. My masculine ghostly hand gave it away lol. Another curious thing, when you see a letter that does not need to be open on camera, the wax is actually red hot glue because it's easier and faster to use than wax. If the letters needs to be open on camera we use real wax.

YES!!!! I screamed when she said it b/c baby that's her man & she WILL stand beside him no matter how mad he is!!! I know it's a show, but hits close when loving someone with mental illness!!!

My favorite part is when Queen Charlotte's sons think that they had her with their big brother. Failing to realize that he is definitely a mama's boy. she just chuckled like boy please I've been playing chess longer than you've been alive

The quickening is when a pregnant woman starts to feel her baby moving. Very old fashioned term, of course.

I learned this term when I was pregnant with my daughter 30 years ago. It is still referred to in some pregnancy books. It usually occurs at or around 20 weeks gestation. It is after 20 weeks when most consider the pregnancy “viable “.

Back then it was also considered the time after which a woman could be certain she was pregnant, because miscarriages were so prevalent and there was no testing to be done. So until you felt the child actually move, there was no confirmation it was alive or that you weren't sick with something.

​@@lilyandrose8557no, most don't, and whether that's your opinion or not, keep in mind that 'quickening' is an old term. They wouldn't have had pregnancy tests, so no real way to know they were even pregnant for certain until they felt movement. A lot of pregnancies are lost before that too, now and then, so even if they did know they were pregnant before the quickening, they wouldn't see a point in announcing it until they were more certain the kid had a decent chance at surviving to full term. Plenty of people nowadays still wait to announce it until 3 months along for that reason.

Here's the definition from Merriam-Webster: Adjective: (of a fetus): having attained such form and development of organs as to be normally capable of surviving outside the uterus It has nothing to do with debates over when life begins. It's used medically to describe when a fetus can survive on its own outside the womb. So no, most people don't consider a pregnancy viable at the first moment of existence, as that's physically impossible.

That lil speech she had with her son. It's a call back to the flashback of her speaking to the young Duke in season 1 of Bridgerton. After his father kicked him to the curb. Nice consistency of storyline 👏🏽

In all fairness, the queen told them to find wives. They didn't listen.... They left her no choice.

I was so happy when Queen Charlotte rescued George from the doctor and ejected him. Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury also empower each other and I love that in a friendship. Looking forward to more. I can't believe this series was so short!

Point of clarification to prepare for episode 6: "Georgie", the eldest son, was the man crying over the blonde lady in the casket. That blonde lady was his daughter, NOT his wife. His daughter was Princess Charlotte and she was 21 when she died giving birth to a stillborn child. So "Georgie" lost his daughter and grandchild, which would be Queen Charlotte's grandchild and great-grandchild. That's why Queen Charlotte was so concerned about her kids having babies since the heir (her granddaughter, a grown woman) had died. Georgie's wife I believe was alive but no longer of child bearing age and also he didn't like her.

Brimsely and Reynolds also need to be given props for being total match makers and wingmen. The back and forth with the carriages, Reynolds encouraging the king to give a gift to Charlotte…All while “staying in their lane” - they should totally get a raise 😂

I don't know if people caught that the doctor was from Bedlam Hospital - a psychiatric hospital notorious for harmful methods. Lots of horror books and movies include Bedlam. I also loved the little Lord Danbury - so freaking cute! When she told him he is the man of the house and he said "Alright then", I bet he was thinking I have no idea what that means but okay mommy.

I love how in the Bridgerton universe they have a way of communicating things without saying fully what they mean. Whether it’s comical like Violet saying she’s in bloom or something more serious like Reynolds’s asking the king if he needs assistance or Brimsly implying he can say the letter got lost or the convo with Sir Ledger and Lady Danbury how he “won’t be coming in”. We all know what they mean but they take such care in being discreet with a touch of class and a dash of sneakiness.

Fun fact about the arranged marriages that queen Charlotte made for her sons. We earlier see them meet princess Victoria. So that Victoria was Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. She married Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, the 4th son of queen Charlotte and king George 3. Their only child was the later Queen Victoria who was born at Kensington Palace, London, on 24 May 1819.

YES!!!! You're the first comment I saw mention it lol. I actually just typed the same thing. Positive that last baby is Lord Ledger's & Violet may figure it out in the coming season since she has biracial grandchildren. All it takes is 1 look at that black kids compared to that last child. I'm positive b/c of the way he died, literally no one is going to question her being pregnant. Hell I peeped it when she initially complained about him putting another ONE of his fat babies inside of her, then the flash forward mentioned 4 kids lhh. Thinking cap instantly went, "Now why they mentioning exact #'s." lmao.

Yes all the younger cast were living together in the last few weeks of shooting. Reynolds, King George, Queen Charlotte, and Brimsley.

Violet's dad is actually not a Bridgerton, he's a Ledger. Bridgerton is the family Violet marries into and actually has not made an appearance in this show. It's crazy to think about that Lady Danbury had something with Violets dad because I actually didn't know they were that far apart in age, but I think at the start of Bridgerton season 1 they knew of each other and throughout seasons 1 and 2 grew to be great friends so at least they weren't friends all these years with Lady Danbury keeping this secret. Reynolds and Brimsley continue to be a great 2nd Love Story of the show and throughout the entire episode I was screaming for Charlotte to JUST GO TO GEORGE, so I was so happy she finally did in the end but I wanted her to bitch slap that doctor so badly.

I believe Lady Danbury is a few years older than Lady Bridgerton because they married off their daughters at a super young age. Queen Charlotte was only 17 so maybe Lady Danbury was 19 or 20 around that time. It's crazy how young 15 or 17 year old kids were put in position to bear running the whole country.

Yes a woman would go from Full mourning to half mourning. Also the types of fabric worn played a factor as well.

The moment with Lady Agatha and Dominic had me so close to tears, she had to make sure that boy didn't forget who he was :(( Because there has been black europeans/aristocrats that were taken from their original homes and forced to mold into a society that already treated them unfairly. Edit: also the birthday hat sent me over, Agatha deserves to know what actual love is. Because despite her dependance of her late husband because of their companionship, she never actually loved him (though treated him with respect).

It makes me wonder if Lady Danbury's friendship with Violet is out of guilt and also a way for her to remain close to the memory of Lord Ledger. She also acts like a mentor to Violet and her kids throughout the seasons, so I think she has placed herself in a (hypothetical) "step-motherly" role

I agree. It seems as if Violet follows Agatha's lead. I believe Violet was closer to her dad. She knows his secrets and kept them. Having a frosty, racist mom didn't allow a close bond so welcoming Agatha was a no brainer. Even Ledger himself said at one point (paraphrase)... he could never say he missed his wife when Agatha said she wouldn't say she missed her husband

Ironically Charlotte turned into Princess Augusta with her own children. She only cares about maintaining the line and doesn’t care about her children’s happiness. Same as Augusta

yeah, but to be fair Charlotte gave her kids the chance to do things their way, but they choose not to take their duties serious. I feel for her daughters, but sons she had at least 7 seven sons and they managed to have 50 bastards between then all. I don't feel bad that she focused their hands.

I think Charlotte’s whole life is frozen in time. She spends her life waiting for the love of her life to either be lucid or die. She has no other capacity for love or to love outside of George.

I love that you both are watching this ,ep 6 is going to be HEAVY but also BEAUTIFUL .I can t have enough of this series .What India and Corey brought to screen was PURE, showing that loving someone is not easy or perfect but always growing ,even if he had his problems she loved him and gave everything .This is maybe a SPOILER but when he says I LOVE YOU my heart broke.They weren t perfect but even after all this years their love didn t diminish .I simply loved this show .....plus I wanna hug Brimsley ..oh buddy.This sow was good for what it is .

Brimsley had me crying like a baby too. his reminiscing scene was gut wrenching.

As someone who grew up reading historical romance novels, I was fascinated by mourning protocol. Black for a specified time followed by gray/drabs for a specified time, where you can go, even certain flowers jewels and fabrics could signify mourning. Poor Agatha Danbury. Her husband didn't die in the winter and now she is in all black everything covered with a veil. That's just TOO HOT.

The Deer can symbolize piety, grace, and devotion. The Stag can symbolize maturity, spiritual enlightenment, virility, grace, and stamina. I guess that’s why it was there.

With mental illness being so prevalent with the king, I can’t help but wonder if “the great experiment” is more than just about merging the societies, but about finding a queen so far from the kings lineage to insure their offspring is less likely to have mental illness.

Watching Lady Danbury coming into her own is fascinating to watch. She had a leadership kind of role simply by being a lady in waiting. Then she had an even greater role by setting a precedent. It gives a new view to how she is in “current” Bridgerton time. Princess Augusta is first and foremost wanting best for her son and her country. Anything else is unimportant. I actually think current Charlotte has become Augusta. Charlotte is doing to her children what Augusta did to George.

Reynolds couldn't do anything. If you noticed, the king pushed him away also. There was nothing he could do. Queen Charlotte was able to do what Reynolds couldn't do.

I totally enjoy your reactions Princess Augusta (George's mother) was the architect of the Great Experiment. She selected Charlotte for George's bride and handed out titles stating it was the Kings orders. At the same time, she is fighting long-standing prejudices from society, the House of Lord's and Parliament. The scene concerning Charlotte's skin tone in the portrait was more a power struggle between the two women as opposed to a race issue. As a woman of her age at that time in history, it would have been a struggle addressing the systemic raceism that existed.My feeling is that all of this is to introduce the type of society that King George wants for his legacy. Princess Augusta is trying to keep the relationship between Charlotte, George,The Great Experiment and the House of Lord's. Wish this presentation was longer.

While I love watching you guys enjoy the show, I realized something about the families that came to see Lady Danbury regarding what happens after Lord Danbury's death. Among the families was the Duke of Hastings, who is the ancestor of Simon (Rege-Jean Page), the main love interest from the 1st season. Not sure it was his father in this episode since it wasn't the original actor. But maybe it was Simon's dad as a younger man...

I love that every day I come home from work and u guys have a new reaction loaded. Lol. Lady Danbury is tired of looking at that Damn ceiling lol. I think when Lord ledger said that would make them both monsters it was bc he doesn’t count his wife among the things his life would be lacking either and I can’t say I blame him lol.

The young Duke of Hastings is in the meeting regarding the “others” faith. Love that they showed him even if it’s in a small scene.

The opera that they're listening to is Henry Purcell's Dido & Aeneas. It's a tragic love story about a Carthaginian (North African) Queen and a Trojan Prince (who's on his own Odyssey after the fall of Troy) who fall in love when the ex-Trojans put into port at Carthage. However evil witches (the opera was composed in the 1680s, and the witches were added as a metaphor for the Catholic Church--the whole Opera being an allegory for how King James II is betraying his country by following the Catholic religion--James II being seen in the Aeneas, Dido being representative of Britain as an idea, the witches as the Catholic Church) conjure up a false representation of the God Mercury to urge Aeneas to move on and not settle in Dido's kingdom (with Aeneas going on to settle about where Rome was and his descendants being Romulus and Remus aka the founders of the city of Rome). Dido is heart-broken after Aeneas leaves her, and the moment that's being sung on stage is from the end of the Opera, where Dido is singing to her handmaiden, Belinda, to remember her after she's gone--but forget her fate, i.e. forget that she commits suicide, but remember me as I was. And Dido then commits suicide by throwing herself on a flaming pyre. "Remember me, but ah, forget my fate," being the repeated last words of the aria of Queen Dido in the Opera before suicide. I could see in this alternate reality of Bridgerton Purcell's piece getting pulled out of the mothballs it would likely be considered to be (it would be 140 - 150 years old circa the late 1810s). After all it's about a North African Queen and the proto-Roman ex-Trojan Aeneas--so I could see it bouncing up in popularity of an example of interracial marriage in history and art that would be performed, especially as the King's madness becomes unable to be hidden from the public with the Regency Act--the tragedy of Dido and Queen Charlotte being comparison that I could see the Royal Opera of this alternate Bridgerton-universe trotting out to perform more often than it was in our timeline until more recently when an interest in the Baroque style of music became more popular in the late 20th and early 21st Century. I do wonder if the anti-Catholic sentiments of the Opera would perhaps set back the Catholic Suffrage Movement of the Regency Period and immediately after though as a consequence.

Quickening is an old fashioned term, which means when you start to feel the baby move, which is usually between 16-20 weeks in pregnancy. So when the doctor is examining queen Charlotte in the beginning, she is likely 4-5 months pregnant

Are you new to Brigerton? The backstory of Violet Brigerton was already touched on in Season 2 of Brigerton. The husband cherished Violet but died while she was pregnant. He got stung by a bee. The trauma impacted Anthony (eldest son) so much he panicked when his future wife got stung. She was alright and after some verbal sparring, on again off again love battles, they married

25:49 Especially when you remember that the current royal family (the all of first four Georges), the Hannovers, were only around from 1634, and from what I can tell only became the ruling family in England because the previous royal family ran out of close relatives and handed the crown over to their second cousins (their nearest living Protestant relatives since England didn't want to have any Catholics as Kings) from Germany in 1714 (when George the first was crowned). In 'The Crown' and in 'Victoria' they talk about the line of the English crown going back as far as William the Conqueror, but actually they're all just descendants of distant cousins of distant cousins of distant cousins and have little to no blood connection to William the Conqueror at all.

The quickening is the moment when the baby starts to kick. ;) That's when most women first confirmed they were pregnant (except for missing periods, obviously)

Violet & Lady Danbury don't really become close until season 2 when dealing with Kate/Anthony's drama. In season 1 they were cordial; playing their respective parts as chaperone until they started putting 2/2 together with Daphne/Simon. Violet rightfully shouldn't take issue with her fathers affair since it never affected their family, she knows her mom wasn't the nicest person, & Lady Danbury never spoke ill about her father (or mother, even though she was outright disrespectful to Lady Danbury). She's at a point now in her life where she understands the hardships of woman & there's no way she could confront LD w/o making a fool of herself. Side note, I'm starting to believe that Lady Danbury's last child is by Lord Ledger. In episode 2 we find out in the future that she eventually has 4 children, but during the funeral stuff we only see 3 & there's no mention of another baby. Did I miss something?

Lady Danbury wasn't her friend. Lady Danbury was a lot older than Lady Violet. They became more acquainted when Daphne was dating the Duke of Hastings since Lady Danbury is the Duke of Hastings godmother.

Mourning period is usually a year and a day. They wear black and can wear jet beads as jewelry, then a couple of months usually near a year they can wear other dark colors like Grey and purple.

Quickening is when the baby starts to kick and move within the mother's womb. Traditionally that is a sign of a healthy baby. And there is significantly less chance of miscarriage after that.

In a lot of them, she looks like a regular white lady, but some portraits of her displayed her having some black features. These were done by artist who were known to be against slavery. At the time, painters would downplay features that were seen as "undesirable" (there is a scene like this in the later episodes) but these painters who were against slavery would paint her with these features. and it has been stated that Queen Charlotte was directly descended from a black branch of the portuguese royal house. ig we will never know the truth, but I kind of believe it😭🤭🫶🏽

She was descended of a north african mistress of the king of Portugal who lived in the 13th century. There is absolutely no reason to think she had "black features "

Cleopatra WAS white. Her family was from Greece. But I don't think there's anything wrong with her being portrayed as mixed or Black

I don't think the Princess is foe, I think she is a product of the time. She is worried about what others think, that's why she had the color check. If she didn't want "color" in the royal line, she wouldn't have found Charlotte. What is the difference between Augusta's quest to preserve the legacy and current Queen Charlotte's efforts to marry off her sons?

Okay, I was trying to decide which video had the highest chance of y'all seeing my comment lol, but since you said you pretty much read them all, I'll comment here. I know it's been a long time since y'all watched season 1, so I definitely get why you wouldn't remember, but Queen Charlotte and King George's love was overtly explained in the dialogue as the reason the Ton is integrated. Lady Danbury says it to the Duke. We also got to see the warmth between king and queen during one of his more lucid moments, then you can see how it crushed her when he faded away again. It was also well-known that the king had some sort of mental illness in season 1. This show was basically designed to flesh out all the things that were previously touched on, and they do a great job. (I guess that's why it's called a prequel. 😅)

One slight error in your commentary...Violet's dad is Lord Ledger...not Mr. Brigerton. Violet grew up and married into the Brigerton royal house becoming Viscountess Brigerton. Mr. Brigerton (or the Viscount Brigerton died from the bee sting). Just a slight error but I know what you meant. Danbury was with Violet's dad...but she was Violet Ledger...not Violet Brigerton yet.
