I can't claim this idea but someone pointed out how true Brimsley's statement regarding Charlotte being frozen in time. In the present day scenes, notice everyone's style of dress is much different from hers. Whereas Charlotte is still wearing clothes in the style of dress from her younger years. This is likely to aid George in remembering her because, in the present, he seems to float between the past and the present. So Brimsley is right, in many ways, Charlotte is quite literally frozen in time.

That’s a great way to see it! I always assumed that it was just that she didn’t bother to keep up with the trends like how the old aunt in pride and prejudice was still dressed in 18th century clothing but she’s the queen and not keeping up with trends doesn’t seem likely

@@clivechiam Exactly! Considering the show made a point of showing us in episode 1 how fashion forward she was esp in the scene where she meets Princess Augusta aka George's mother. Augusta & her advisors wanted Charlotte to wear a simple English dress for her wedding but she had her own dress designed in the latest Parish fashion.

It’s still debated what George’s mental illness was. The two best guesses were that he had bipolar disorder or that he had porphyria which is a Liver disease that causes mania, high blood pressure etc.

Luckily for the real Queen Charlotte she had a happy and good marriage for a while bc it is said that George didn’t start having his first episodes till later in his life but yes in this show it really made my heart hurt so much that it had happened so soon in their relationship and being so young
Zach was in point this episode! He was like a fortune teller. Someone get this man on the Bridgerton writing team!
The kid playing piano was Mozart, which is partially historically accurate
10:46 “they must continue to just act like this” why does bryce look so concerned 😭
I appreciate your careful word choice, compassion and understanding around the topic of mental health. This series covers so many topics and emotions, I love it!

Watch the movie Amadeus
In seasons 1 and 2, I assumed that George had Alzheimer's, which is called The Long goodbye. Definitely keep the tissues close, Bryce. The last three episodes will rip your heart from your chest.😢 Beautifully tragic!
George illness remained "just sporadically episodes" for 30 years (from their marriage in 1761 until the beginning of 1790s). Then, with the aging and after the losses of two sons and the pressure from other political events like American Revolution and more [he is the same king in the musical Hamilton], the condition started to deteriorate and became more frequent and worse each time. But for other 20 years they managed to "keep it under control" even if the situation gotten worse. It was only in 1810, with the death of George's favorite daughter Amelia that triggered him (and in the main Bridgerton series they talked about this), combined with the old age and the progressing deteriorating state day after day that he endured in the previous years, that his psychic condition became nearly chronical [in Bridgerton universe he still has moments of lucidity - but in real life his illness was totally chronical and also he became totally blind and deaf during the 1810s to the point he never knew about his granddauther and wife's death] From 1811 on George condition was so bad he was unable to rule so their firstborn, future George IV, act as his regent for 10 years until George died in 1820. That's why this era, in which the early stories of Bridgerton siblings are set up, is called "Regency Era" 😊😊 And during the Regency Era Charlotte still was widely powerful until her death in 1818 😢😢❤❤❤ The real Charlotte never saw the birth of the grandchild this episode hints about. That child would be future Queen Victoria
@MarthaDwyer
Жыл бұрын
Mental health issues have been prevalent in the British Royal family. Queen Victoria also had years of deep depression after her husband, Albert died. Victoria 's great grand daughter, Princess Alice of Battenburg (later Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark), was hospitalized in an asylum for about a year. Her son was the late Prince Phillip, the husband of the late Queen Elizabeth.
22:32 such a mood, that's literally me everytime he said something like that
This isn’t in the show, just British history but George in real life actually outlived Charlotte.
That end scene is so heartbreaking this show really knows how to get you in the feels
Such a heartbreaking episode. The doctors back then wouldn’t even be able to diagnose it so they don’t really say what it is. But that seemed like a manic episode with psychosis. Delusions and an obsession with the planets and Venus and hallucinations where he seems to hear stuff sometimes. Heartbreaking to watch though.

After the marriage, people used to stand in the room and watch them have sex to confirm. So this was being more modern by not doing that at the times. This also confirmed if the bride was a virgin.

@@acceptinglife6491 apparently they didn’t believe the couple knows how to bang and to make a baby. Plus, sex was considered the seal to make a marriage official. If it didn’t happen, the marriage didn’t. So it was very important that it happened fairly right after the marriage with witnesses. In some countries they had a barrier from where they had a peep hole to watch through. Whatever it was, it sounds horrendous.

You guys will love the next episode.
You mention that you think he it’s like 99% of the time that he’s not fully himself or is having his psychotic episodes but I disagree I think it would be more around like 70% of the time. Like I know, that could be hyper Bolic, but I do think there’s a fair amount of time where he is fully lucid. I do think that overtime it took less and less to trigger one of his episodes though which leads Charlotte to become progressively more protective, and take more precautions.
IM LOVING THE REACTIONS TO THIS SERIES 🥰🥰🥰
Long live King Charles III (when i was in London looking at the royal jewels a young girl and her mother were standing looking at a photo of the coronation and the little girl goes, "look mummy it is Charlie!")
Most historians still debate whether the king had bi-polar disorder or he was schizophrenic. Bi-polar disorder is extreme highs and lows, but it doesn't necessarily cause hallucinations like we see at the ending here.

It looks like George has anxiety and also manic episodes (its hereditary and also looks like it stems from the way he was treated as a child leading up to his marriage. The "u are the king" the expectations they have about him) idk just looks like he is under too much stress.

I understand why Violet doesn't like being called fortunate for having a great husband who died, but the way she gets pissed off about the idea of creating a fund for the education of orphan girls just annoys me so much.
