Unfortunately, in those days if you had an old rich husband and he died - nothing was left to you. Women were generally not able to inherit. It went to the next male in the family, which was generally a son but could be a distant cousin and they could throw you out on the street (demonstrated in the issue the Featherington women faced in S2)

True, but it was also generally considered "the thing" for the inheritor to take care of the widow, and then she was allowed to do pretty much anything she wanted. After you're a widow, chaperones were unnecessary, you get to decide what functions to attend, who you wanted to dance with... In comparison to the hyper controlled beginning half of their lives, that would be true freedom 🤷🏻‍♀️

Btw the leads have brilliant chemistry and so does the rest of the cast. They chose well. Also, biggest crush on the guys (mostly Corey) in the show.

6:52 Ok, the woman who just died giving birth is Charlotte and George's granddaughter, the man who keeps crying over her is the young womans father and George and CHarlotte's oldest child George the Prince Regent and future George the fourth, and the reason we don't see his wife Caroline of Brunswick at her daughters funeral is the same reason why she wasn't invited to her husbands coronation and probably he same reason why they only had the one child - Caroline and George hated each other.

@@FunkyNaomii I think when they say 'princess royal' they mean a child or a grandchild of the reigning monarch, a direct descendant rather than an in-law. In any case, I think they might have mentioned the name Charlotte which was the name of George the Prince Regents daughter who did die after giving birth to a stillborn son.

@@FunkyNaomii yes, he's crying over his daughters death - re whenever Charlotte said that the only legitimate heir to the throne was dead. If she was his wife she wouldn't be the heir. he's their eldest son George the fourth - though now he's George the prince regent

Just wanna say about the sponser though, be aware they arent always great, i was with them for a while and it actually worsened my mental health, one of the therapists actually told me i was choosing to be depressed. Obvs i know this isnt everyones experience but i want ppl to be aware of this

Other than being born 2 months earlier/premature, his childhood and adolescent were mostly medically uneventful. He probably had tantrums as a child (?) but a lot do. But some say that the first indication that something was wrong with King George III was around 1765. He was 27 and had been on the throne for 5 years when he came down with a fever, a racking cough, sudden weight loss and severe insomnia. Some medical historians have said that George III's mental instability was caused by a (undiagnosed) hereditary physical disorder called porphyria or severe bipolar episodes, or possibly both or something else entirely. The remedies were “disturbing”. In 1788 (?) George's increasingly irascible behavior developed into a more serious illness over which he and his doctors had little control. The Queen Charlotte book is a stand-alone it's written by both Julia and Shonda and hands down far better than any book in the Bridgerton novel series. By the time you get to Ep6, you'll want to read it to get closure bc I don't see there being a Season 2 of Queen Charlotte 🥲

A second season isn't needed. Queen Charlotte and King George were real people and it only takes a Google search to know what their lives were like after the birth of their first child. It's a limited series and many limited series don't need second seasons.

my theories about king george's mental health issue: 1. Dementia - it could be dementia, which is brain deterioration. However, if it was, he would've most likely died young since he's probably about 18-21 ish. 2. DID - it could be DID if he had repeated trauma as a child. However, usually people with DID have different identities for each alter because each alter is a different person in the same body. 3. PTSD - he may have some sort of traumatic experience that sets him off. However, he doesn't seem to be having trauma-related flashbacks. 4. Stress/Anxiety-Induced Psychosis - this makes the most sense to me. his anxiety and stress levels rise, and he has a temporary mental break in which he suffers from hallucinations and/or delusions.
