It is so rewarding bottle feeding the odd calf when it’s needed to save its precious life.
Please, please be patient, both mama and baby wished things were easier. They never wanted their lives to go this way. Thank you for your love and tender mercy. Please, i remember you in my prayers.
I admire the fact that are concern about you cows, and their comfort.
We have a calf that lost his mom so we are using a surrogate mom who has a calf already, but also has a big bag. Have to put her in the squeeze shute twice a day and supplement some. Life on the ranch, gotta love it ❤
Poor cow with her very low hanging bag. It nearly touches the ground. You're doing an amazing job with all of the cows and calves. I so enjoy watching!
Slow progress is still progress. Calf is looking better for such a rough start. Hopefully, he’ll get it all figured out soon!
That is so cool 1 cow is feeding not just her own but others with real good milk. God is good.
I'm praying for this beautiful baby!
Watching the calf coming to you it does appear the calf is blind in the right eye and as old farmer I can tell you that does effect on his ability to see the complete utter, just my opinion from 75 years of rasing cows and farming. I thoroughly enjoy your videos.
Your saving on milk replacer for the other two!
Tyler, look at his eyes!! Someone said earlier in the comments that he looks blind in Right eye. I agree with them. The Right Eye looks very Cloudy like he cannot see out of it.
This is your best video! Watching your kind efforts with this little calf made my day. Brilliant idea to milk the cow AND teach the baby to nurse. You can add "Lactation Consultant" to your resume. Anxious to see an update on these two. Thank you!
Oh, no, for SURE every time you load the stock trailer for any move, they ALL will look and inspect all of your latest welds and talk among themselves and critique every weld. The joys of being a farmer. Keep up the great work.
I'm so glad you found him a mother.
It is obvious that very many of us, your subscribers, wish you success in your ventures, especially when you show such a caring attitude to your animals. Hopefully you will be able to train this calf to nurse from the two rear teats of this cow. I really like several of the comments made by other viewers of this video. (1) Holding your hand to cover a front teat, to encourage the calf to find the rear teat. (2) When you feed with the bottle, hold it closer to the ground so that the calf can learn to feed from a rear teat that is so low to the ground. (3) I do not know how possible it might be, but the idea that it might be possible to make some kind of Bra or shield to cover the front teats seems like a good “lateral thinking” kind of solution. (4) If the idea of having a house-cow to provide fresh milk has any appeal to you or your family, then I like the idea which someone gave of using this cow to provide an interim opportunity. In addition to these ideas I think that you have reached a point where this cow has allowed you to “hold her captive” while you train the calf to feed from her - she has “allowed you”, she has given you “permission” to do it. To make it easier for you (for you, for the cow, and for the calf) I would like to suggest that you install a cow head-bail gate in the shed where the cow and calf are being housed. Using this approach you would not need to relocate the cow and calf to the cattle-crush each day. This would enable you hold her steady while you milk her, or train the calf to nurse on those rear teats. It might work especially well if you can feed her with some kind of treat while she is confined in this way. I remember from many years ago (when I was young and had to help with hand-milking a cow), that we gave chaff mixed with bran and pollard to our cows when we milked them. This approach might also provide a good opportunity to enable your other bottle-fed calves to nurse directly from this cow which seems to have such a plentiful milk supply.
That’s if I didn’t already admire you, Tire, your determination and patience, which is calf and mother cow truly amazing and admin!! The time you were spending with the both of them to make this a successful is as everything else you do ❣️❣️

I saw that too, it looks bluish while he was nursing. That might be the cause for some of his problems.

I noticed the same thing as well. Most likely why he always goes to nurse on the right side.

I was wondering the same thing. Wonder how his sight is altogether.
The calf should kneel to suckle on the hind quarters. He can't swallow properly and it's exhausting for him. So, if you could either raise the mum ( the shute) or lower the calf, you may find it more successful until he gets stronger.
Tyler, please check the video at 14:10, the two wheels on the right hand side of the stock trailer. It looks as if the front wheel is rotating freely, but the rear wheel is not rotating freely - it looks very much like it is skidding/dragging. It was definitely not rotating the same as the front wheel.
This calving season has been such a test of will and determination. That calf is looking better than the last video; you are making a difference. Praying this is the last of the calving challenges this season.
Good job Tyler. It is what it is and you are handling it well!
He is a really cute calf.
You’re doing a great job Tyler despite it being a lot of work!
Is the calf blind in the one eye??
Doesn’t Mrs FTR want a milk cow? Get a milking bucket! lol

I don't know about the calf, but I'd take a swig out of that bottle myself. One of my fondest memories as a kid is my grandma giving me milk that she had just milked from the cow.

I've never had fresh raw milk and I can't wait! Just starting a homestead so it will be a while. Working the land and fixing breaches in the fence. When that's done, we can welcome our first animals. So exciting! 😊
You have patience, and I'm sure patience will pay off Tyler. I don't really think there's anything else that's going to happen better than what you're doing now to correct this issue. Wishing the best of luck and waiting for the next outcome of success from you. 😁
I have a feeling cow 26 is a contender for the cull-list....

I had a cow with a low hanging bag like that and the same problem with her calf nursing we made a BRA for the cow it worked good and after a week every thing was OK and we were able to turn mom and baby back out.

If you put a collar on the calf, you might be able to lead him back to the bull pen after feeding at the crush. I bet I know who is currently no 1 on your list for moving down the road when it comes to herd thinning time!
That is one cute calf.
Great opportunity to halter train... there as well as back.
Patients wins the day.
Terrific care of this little calf. Thank tou for the video!
I enjoy the cows and calves but love the mix of welding, welding cart project, and cement pouring. Keep em coming FTR. HI to MRS.
I saw your video from a few weeks ago, where you picked up the black twin calf, and put him with your little blond calf! You are doing a great job! You are a good teacher! I’m learning a lot! You’re doing a great job!❤️🥰💙🥰❤️🥰💙🥰❤️🥰💙🥰❤️🥰💙🥰
I recommend a bigger jar/ backet and milking with both hands;) that’s the way milking is done and is much quicker. Thank you for taking us with you again!
My heart goes out to you and the babies. This caving season has really been a test of perseverance for you. Hang in there, your doing a great job. Love the bottle babies!
Keep doing the Best U Can Tyler, U Rock. I do Hope it gets better as the time goes on with the baby feeding. Push On!
Everyone is Asking is it Blind Tyler., You never MISS a Beat, Are you tried Tyler. Have a great day 4-16-2024👍🏽👍🏽❤️
Good job Tyler. Now you have the milk cow your wife was asking for. Make some cheese with some of that milk !!
Had cows and calves years ago. They can be work at calving time for sure. Try holding the bottle lower at the same angle as the cow's rear quarter. Your right the calf can't figure out he needs to arch his head more lower. Your doing a great job. Nice conformation on the cow. Rog/Iowa
I had a cow that was just like that, monster rear quarters, calf never did latch on to them and she got mastitis because I wasn’t able to keep her milked out. Hope you have better success.
Remember corral in past years - there is mud but not as much for sure. Pure love and patience with the cow/calf. Other have suggested a sling and perhaps blind in 1 eye ?? Weld looks real good !!
Can you teach the calf to kneel to get his head lower and make nursing in the back more comfortable? Great idea to hold the teat he likes away while trying to get him to drink from the back. I hope he figures it out soon.
Great job. 👏 They are lucky to have you. ❤
That poor cow has an enormous bag!😮
❤ Watching from Sunny Florida !
What a beautiful life to live.
Thanks
Beautiful animals and a caring farmer
we love you Farmer Tyler. keep up the good work
Doing a great job with the calf a lot of work but it’s worth the time to get him up and going have a good day .
Hang in there!
Can you wrap the 2 front quarters so they are covered so the only tests showing are the 2 rear quarters. Something like putting them in a hammock. Really enjoy you site watch it all the time.
Ole girl has enough milk for triplets 👍 We had triplets and we bought some milk from a dairy farm
Looks like pink eye on the right side. Didn’t notice it last video. 🤷 Either way good luck bud. You have more patience than me!
Happy cows come from California.
4:34 consider giving his bottle down low... To train him look for that low hanging teat. Try to find the same angle. 3:51 💖🌞🌵😷
With aluminum, it helps to preheat the area. Aluminum is like a heat sink, and it will draw the heat away from your weld.
Hi Tyler, I think the problem is the cow. I’m a beef cattle producer and those kind of otter are not the way. The calf look to be blind on the right eye to. Best of luck on the mama and calf. Ernest
Is the calf blind or sight damaged?

I see what you’re talking about. Are his eyes very light blue?
You need to get one of those hand pumps like Sandy Brock has.
I love this kind of video. Please keep making this update
Weird when I had a premature Baby, I nursed then gave him a bottel to make sure he was getting enough milk. Only took me a few weeks to get him nursing full time 😂😂😂😂😂
Can you present the bottle lower so he bends down? What about a bra to lock off the dominant teet? Vet wrap and an old tshirt possibly.
I see many comments about the calf maybe half-sided blind - anyone really believe Taylor has not recognized during the hours he spent with the little one?
I see you are in Northern California! That is nice to know! I live in Southern California! Thank you for great videos!❤️🥰💙🥰❤️🥰💙🥰❤️🥰💙🥰❤️🥰💙 Rancho Cucamonga, CA🌷🌻🌷
Ahh mud season again. I’m a cross the states and we are in mud season with you.😊😂 Can you tape the front quarter teet so he can’t nurse on it and has no other option but to use one of the others?
Thanks. Good job with the calf and your trailer weeding job. Trying to catch up on all your videos.
Lil guy doesn't want to get a crick in his neck... Lol
Did I see Category 1 and 2 in the lift arm ball. Thats cool, much better than using an insert from 2. to 1.
Have you tried to put the calf on his front knees to nurse the hind quarters?
Cool thanks 😊
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO TYLER 😊
Doing a great job!!
❤❤ doing a great job! Gotta be a pain though 🥴 you’re not gonna be able to carry him for long lol maybe a halter??
Great welds!
Persist and you will succeed.🇨🇦❤️
The mom needs as much nursing as possible so her swelling goes down. Please consider putting a second calf on her when her calf is almost finished while she is in the chute, raising her up by putting something under the chute, and/or making her wear a bra on the front teats for a short time as others have suggested. I know this will resolve when the swelling goes down and the calf gets stronger. Best of luck.
GOOD MORNING TYLER GREAT JOB TO
I have to wonder if you could design a nursing bra to help this poor gal out? A little added support could make her teats easier for the calf to latch on. And it would save her stepping on her udder and further damaging it.
Great job!!! You takes such good care of those little ones. How are the other two bottle babies doing?
Great video, hoping the baby catches in soon. Calving season sure is a busy one, but I love watching the babies and the many different issues you go thru.
Noticed when feeding in morning and night his eye looks cloudy like he is blind in the right eye..
Good luck!!🙏❤
Hi Sir. I like your show. Could you cover the teat of the dry quarter somehow? So sorry about the trouble with this little fella. Hang in there!
You are doing what is the right thing to do.. this shows in your body language..
Could you place a couple of 12x2's in the chute to make the full quarters easier to access?
Doing great
thx for sharing
He is a big looking. Calf. Well worth. Saving
Yes this is exactly what I was gonna say I think he can’t see!
Would an udder sling help to support those lower teats, so he could comfortably nurse?
I always heard when we were on the farm, if you carry a calf everyday you'll be able to carry them all their life. Maybe that's true lol but we never tried.
He's the prettiest little calf! Tyler, does he have blue eyes? Maybe it was the reflection of the green shoot, but one of his eyes looked blue as the sky!!! Never seen a blue-eyed cow!!! He's such a gorgeous color. Daddy Rivet sure does make pretty babies!🥰
