so the studio actually explained why it wasn't licensed worldwide. since it's an anime original, with no other media or merch for it, that came beforehand, completely new, it's often seen as a risk by these streaming services since they got no clue if it will be popular. so the studio didn't feel like they could / couldn't charge big numbers for it to companies like Crunchyroll. They also said that since it's an anime original, a season 2 will depend on the merch sales. Who knows, with how popular the show is, they might license it in the future, and will be able to charge more money for it.

It still made it to Anime Trending's 1st place last week without having official subs! I'll continue rooting for Nina the Gremlin and her crew
There's currently only 3 countries outside of Japan that have the GBC license and one of the Recent countries being Indonesia with Official Toei ENGLISH SUBS. Update: 4 countries now

It had a pretty bad situation and start this season, but Girls Band Cry managed to achieve the greatness it deserved and its incredible that it was all pulled off by the fans that managed to watch it, as well as the team behind the creation of GBC, and the actual band formed for this anime, TogeToge. This is the closest we may get to what feels like a ground breaking indie production, get anime of the year award. I saw trailers and I thought, it was just folly. I thought it was a "Bang Dream" discount knock off and just moved on. I didn't give it a chance and I feel like an idiot. It's damn near a masterpiece from every single second and aspect.
It's also worth mentioning that the script and series composition is being done by Jukki Hanada, the same guy behind A Place Further than the Universe, Sound Euphonium, and a decent amount of Love Live.
This type of higher fps 3D anime style has been used quite a bit already in videogame animations. I've noticed this especially in chinese gacha games (for example Arknights, HI3 and PGR cinematics). I honestly always wondered when it would bleed into the Japanese animation industry, and I'm glad to see GBC being one of the first to use it fully. I hope CGI will continue to be used more as an alternative style rather than the "budget saving" CGI dragons/monsters.

As someone who grew up in the age of torrents it has been incredibly disheartening to see so many embrace streaming instead. I can't get too mad about the legal streaming sites, but the illegal ones are terrible. Torrents are about community; streaming is about making money.

Same here, I've been torrenting ever since my friend showed me how in elementary school nearly 20 years ago. For me, consistency, reliability, and ease of use are all reasons why I still prefer torrenting over streaming 95% of the time. It's way easier to choose the exact subs you want and confirm the audio and video quality of the file with torrents compared to trying to find a decent stream mirror on an illegal streaming site. Plus, the benefits of having the actual video file on your device are self-explanatory. Honestly, I have an annual subscription to HiDive, but even then I'll torrent some of the shows in their catalog for better subs and because their mobile app still sucks.

you're so lost. streaming is about letting people access media without the hardware for it. it's why we are streaming full videogames with services like geforce now. because people don't have the pcs to run it, just like not all people 10 years ago had a terabyte hdd to save all their anime on. the illegal streaming sites are better than the legal ones because they typically offer more range, better players, no region lock and no altered products due to cultural sensitivity checks (crunchyroll/funimation is effectively unwatchable because of this). streaming is just the grandson of torrenting and it does the same exact thing just less efficient and more focused on the user experience. My best guess why no streaming service licensed it is music. Since this is a special case of a real-life band being created with anime from the beginning there has to be some weird licencing wall stopping anyone from picking it up. I may be wrong, it's just my best guess.

before i knew about any of the stuff going on with the anime and was getting impressions from the first episode, i noticed something was a little wrong with the subs from the start since i know a bit of japanese and i saw they weren’t completely accurate… then they made nina say “it’s joever” and somehow that made me really eager to continue the anime. also, thank you for telling me the director of love live sunshine also directed girls band cry because i did NOT know that and i’m a huge love live fan so it blew me away
I hope it can be licensed in the future. If only to sell DVD BD copies. The op grabbed my attention and after the first ep I was sold. Also the raw emotions from the VAs are so good. At first I thought why did Toei go for CG, but now I think it's the perfect fit for this bombastic anime.
I remember back in April when I tried looking for this anime I couldn't find it anywhere. But seeing as 'those sites' had episode 1 available already, I just went ahead. I loved episode 1 but something felt so incredibly off... While the animation, expressions, voice acting, production; all of it was excellent! But the dialogue made no sense.. Obviously that's when I figured it out these weren't official. And unfortunately for the first few episodes, you kinda had no choice but to watch them like this... Thankfully the production being This Good, made me able to overlook the weird subtitles, since I was able to understand what the characters were saying just by how believable they moved and how convincing their voice acting was. Which I think speaks volumes about this show on its own! I'm really glad I stuck around for this anime as it has easily been my highlight of the year. And the fact it got this much attention just by word of mouth from fans is another layer to how well it's actually written.
oh that one! I've seen some teasers of this anime a while ago, and it caught my interest. didn't know it was already being released.
I just watch it.....12 episodes in......desperate for ep 13 now......and Rupa is best girl.....and so Momo....Nina.....Subaru.....Tomo.....goddamn I love them all.
I'm definitely interested to watch this series...but now time to find a way to watch it
Man the first time I saw a clip of the series I fell in love with the visual style and the soundtrack, like it's smooth but then for fast actions it's really snappy, makes me want to hop into blender again
I can't help but feel this is Toei's fault somehow, they have the trailer on their official English channel with a release date for "soon". So they know something
Finally someone who gives the love this series deserves and shows it to everyone. Been following GBC since they started releasing their songs and been in love since then. ❤❤
funny story, GBC also has a promotion for Blu-ray bundles in Chinese on their official youtube channel But there's no release in any Mandarin-speaking country and all the ppl just got confused and begged in the comment section for the release of the anime I mean wtf is going on in Toeia

After being unable to stream this show and everything they’re currently doing with the Precure franchise, I can safely describe Toei Animation using these words from John Oliver: They are run by clowns, Who are supervised by monkeys, Who report to caffeinated toddlers, Who are overseen by a bunch of fluffy puppies, Who are monitored by a wasted bachelorette party, Who’s boss is just a large, inflatable tube-man!

I never really think Orange studio CG is... lets say to my liking (I dare say it's overrated, but that's just me), but GBC totally retains that classic exaggerated expressiveness one comes to expect when watching anime; all the deformation and imperfection that you subconsciously recognize and one will be weirded out when it's gone or neutered in a typical CG anime. This might be as close as we can realistically get for a TV production to ArcSys' signature 2.5D CG fighting game animations.

Fear of being seen as a disappoinment, fear of taking the first step and fear if you put too much effort into your passion that if you fail it's gonna hurt even more. Kinda like a psychology genre at some point NGL. Cute girls doing cute things? Nah... Nina might look adorable be she's stubborn as hell which is not the typical idol anime that acts cute and sometimes could turned cringy. Like the MC really unique
