Tbh I think the reputations of the originals action is a bit overblown. Don't get me wrong there were some great fights. But for everyone of them, there was like five were they just went straight for the finisher. Ironically Max Heart despite being inferior over all had much better action in my opinion.

I feel kids anime is where the really creative design are, without having the constrains to be mainstream, but catch the kids attention, many of these shows have my favorite character designs in general. This is exactly why I love character designs from media targeted towards a younger audience (the good ones, of course)-they don’t rely on overly plain tropes to pull in a larger crowd. Instead they use the most of their creativity to make it the most unique and eye-catching for their target demographic, giving off a sense of wonder as a result and displaying the characters’ most defining traits through show and not tell.

Over its near two decades run, _PreCure_ has offered a variety of gorgeous battles, amazing characters and arcs, and a plethora of strong emotion. _Heartcatch_ is the strongest of the franchise, but besides it you have _Go! Princess_ which explores dreams and trauma, _Hugtto_ and its exploration of the future and relationships, and _Smile_ with its focus not just on fairy tales and the lessons we learn from them, but on happiness itself and the various ways it can be both broken and worked towards. Even the more flawed seasons like _Happiness Charge_ , _Star Twinkle_ and _Suite_ examine love and guilt, xenophobia versus acceptance, and how to balance sadness in life even if it weighs one down. It's a brilliant franchise with something brilliant in every season, and I hope your lovely video can bring more people to it!

Precure is just great in general imo, just that Heartcatch's the most 'normie friendly' one of the bunch due to it's 'darker' themes. Other seasons are more low stakes and can drag at times but they still have their own strengths, I can even say the bad seasons are the outliers (I personally don't like suite and dokidoki, the few episodes I've watched of GoPri and Smile weren't really my thing). Y'all should have seen me crying during the Tropical Rouge finale, because I was bawling HARD. I think the biggest strength in these is how there's a long runtime with many episodes but the story is still planned from the beginning, so you don't really see the story get lengthened artificially like in perpetually running shows. You basically get to spend more time with the characters without the consequences of a serialized narrative. Also these stories aren't adaptations, they're original, so they make more use of the medium's strengths. That's why I adore kid's anime so much, because they're the last stand in long running original TV anime. Kaitou Joker is great y'all should watch it.

Heartcatch is almost a boring answer when asked which is the best, but it is a really solid all rounder and the 'If you only watch one' recommendation. I’ve always had a soft spot for media targeted towards children (the good ones at least and not those for really really young kids) and I’d like to thank the Pretty Cure franchise for this. To this day, the series holds a special place in my heart not only because it was one of the first anime I watched, but also because of its simple, childlike charm that gives off a somewhat nostalgic (?) vibe 13 year-old me never expected to feel at that time. I am now two years away from graduating high school but it sounds pretty strange that I still indulge myself in Eastern kids media every now and then. I don’t know how to explain it, but the stories that come out of them give me a sense of comfort no other series has, and I love it.

In comparison, Precure's had neither. The series (and countless other magical girl series aimed at kids) has been ignored by the 'big anime companies' that never licensed the series, despite Precure's mainstream status in Japan. and even when the series was licensed, the licensors barely paid it much attention. The English dubs we got were meh, with two being heavily edited (and a third dub that's no longer licensed) and two dubs that were never released. Precure is really an "all-ages" series, like Ghibli movies- possibly more so. Most of the Cures are older than you'd find in a typical kids series- most being between 14 and 17. Heartcatch covers a number of adult problems too, like the botanist who was afraid he'd lose his job. They make the monsters silly most of the time so the youngest viewers don't have nightmares, but what those monsters can do is something else. The goofy salad-spinner from Delicious Party fires off cutting blades that can cut through rock. The kids don't see anyone cut in half, but adults know what would happen if one connects. Precure series have a slow build through the year so they can deepen and explore the relationships between characters and ramp up the danger from the bad guys, so you can't judge a series on the first few episodes. It's like sitting on a roller coaster while it's hauling up to the first drop. In some ways Precure is an Iyashikei series like K-On! combined with sakugo transformations and battle sequences. Love Heartcatch? Be sure to watch the recent crossover: "Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure the Movie: The Snow Princess and the Miraculous Ring!" Erika is golden in it, and it's by far the most tragic movie in the series I've seen.

I'm happy people explains what PreCure is and the impact in the storyline it has Despite being a kids franchise Precure has a reeeeeealy big compilation of strong, dark and heavily emotional moments trough all of his seasons One of my favorite is *Smile Precure* and the solo battle of March and Majorina, which i'm pretty sure it's the community's favorite scene by how heavy it's the scene

It’s very ironic to me that Smile was intended to be one of the lighter seasons, yet when it gets dark, it has stuff like THAT. I get why, it fits the theme of Smile Precure, that being to face the darkness in the world with a smile, but still, it gets so intense sometimes

I feel like Smile is pretty overhated. A lot of people think its overrated, but I think it deserves the high ratings. It does so mahy things so well- its great at handling mature topics, and themes, like the death of Yayoi’s dad, or the time March thought her siblings were dead. Moments like that are handled so well & so realistically that both caught me off guard when first seeing them. The character development is amazing too, like the development of Yayoi and even Candy surprisingly, who is the FAIRY of this season, yet she still had her own flaws and growth she needed. Thr fights are incredible, the story is simple, but I think it’s overall handled decently. The villains are great. The main 3 bad end commanders all start out pretty goofy, but they slowly become more insane and very threatening, like how Wolfrun acted and looked when preparing to fight Sunny in ep 40. His eyes were glowing red and he was so enraged. Joker is also especially great, hes manipulative and very smart, yet cruel enough to threaten the lives of the other commanders, that being part of the reason they became insane. The way he manipulated Cure Beauty was incredibly cruel. There’s sm more I could say, but overall I just really love it & honestly think it deserves more.

Okay, i am about to get super cheesy. Me getting into precure was a mistake. A mistake i am forever grateful for having in my life. When i first got into the precure rabbit hole, i was in a phase in my life were i felt extremely lonely. The only thing that was keeping me positive at that time was anime with friendship base storyline. Something that was missing alot from my life. Than came precure and honestly it was the first time i genuitly learned something about life in tv. Precure made me understand the world around me, taught me valuable lessons and made me laugh and cry at every chances it could get. Thanks to it, i felt a sense if hope i was starting to think was impossible to achieve. Now it been years, i've grown, made myself a close friend group just like in the serie, i am studying to have a good job and i am feeling genuitly happy with myself. Something i 100% thing wouldn't be possible if i didn't start watching precure out of boredom. Even now, when i feel extremely down, i go rewatch some of my favorites episode of all every season of precure. My favorite season has to be Princess Precure. Haruka working hard for her stupid little dream about being a princess despite the world telling her to give up was and still is an incroyable source of inspiration. The subject of hope and dream were treated with so much respect in that season. Even showing the dark side. It all made me want to work for my non existing dream career and futur at the time. Plus the fact it was unapologetically feminin with the princess dresses straight up pull me out of my " i am not like other girls" phase. Anyways, precure is just a gem and i am definitly planning on making my kids sit though it in the futur. I hope we still will have new season until then.

It deals with a lot of the same subject matter brought up in the video, but with much more of a slice of life angle. Yoshihiko Umakoshi also worked on this one, after Berserk, but before Heartcatch! HeartCatch Precure is an anime I never watched, but I always considered it to be Ojamajo Doremi version 2. It did air years after Doremi, after all. The visual presentation and design you talked about is just Ojamajo Doremi from what I've seen in this video. Their expressions and faces look the same, even in the comical parts. The story lines seems very similar too, the difference is that there weren't truly fights in Doremi. Doremi did tackle serious issues in a way I could understand as a small child and it was the most important anime from my childhood. To this day its last ending still makes me cry. So I'd definitely give HeartCatch Precure a chance. It seems like it is an amazingly beautiful story too (or maybe not beautiful, but amazing). I'm glad that the art style was not the only thing that was kept from one show to the other. Also, those girls seem as loveable as the Ojamajos, so I'd love to meet them too.

In my opinion, HeartCatch did almost everything perfectly. The characters were, first and foremost, simply lovely. All of them were charming in their own right and were a treat to watch interacting with each other. Tsubomi is one of the most sincere, kind, funny, and powerful female characters (right next to Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura) and I'm honored to have her as one of my top favorite anime characters of all time. The character designs also added to its charm. While the art style took a while to get used to and was rather unorthodox, the simple character designs worked in the characters' favor. Seriously, the HeartCatch characters were some of the most expressive characters I've ever seen. Not to mention, their fights were also well-animated and choreographed. All this is thanks to the ton of room and leeway created by the rather simplistic art style. If that wasn't enough, something that impressed me a ton with HeartCatch is how it handled the monster-of-the-week formula and how it excelled in its world-building. Essentially, the victims were all recurring characters. Their multiple appearances not only helped us become invested in each and every one of them and their struggles, but it also made the world that they resided in far more expansive, fleshed-out, and vibrant. The Desertorians were interesting monsters because they were related to the victims by actually being the victims, instead of being a random object-turned-monster or a random passerby. They all had compelling backstories of their own (that sometimes tied into the main characters' struggles) and there was a reason to care about the fights - there were emotional stakes in addition to the immediate danger. Not only that, it all came together at the end of the series. Just when all hope was lost, we discovered that all of the people who were saved by the PreCure were immune to the desertification effects as they were all emotionally stronger after having their hearts fortified. Now, it was their turn to support the PreCure. Once again, the side characters were all relevant to the story right till the very end. I believe that "one good turn deserves another" is an excellent moral and they integrated it into the series brilliantly. (This was also seen earlier with Cure Moonlight regaining her ability to transform thanks to the collected Heart Seeds). Neither the viewer nor the PreCure knew that their good deeds would benefit them in the long run. The emotional catharsis was earned because they didn't expect anything in return but were rewarded for their selflessness. Yes, there were issues with the villain's motivations and yes, it was episodic and yes, there was filler. However, because of the strength of the characters, I still consider this to be one of the most well-executed and heartfelt PreCure series to date. (^.^)

As an avid watcher of PreCure who has seen every season - HeartCatch does have the most dynamic duo. That I agree with. I'd argue that the original two from Futari wa PreCure - Nagisa/Cure Black and Honoka/Cure White - are the original dyanmic duo, but those episodes got very repetitive after a while and I struggled to finish it. Though that finale made me bawl like a baby, holy _heck_ was it heavy. HeartCatch was another series that got me emotional too. The hopelessness of a situation they'd throw in your face before giving back that hope really hits hard, and the themes of each episode? The characters?? Erika is one of my top favorites. After whatever Fresh PreCure was (that series didn't sit well with me), HeartCatch made an amazing comeback. PreCure definitely deserves more attention - hopefully nothing like what came of the Winx Club when it got popular. The only season I don't like out of it is Happiness Charge - I firmly believe they rushed it for the anniversary and it just wasn't interesting whatsoever. It tried. It was a good concept, but... yeah. Also, I'd like to mention - a lot of well known voice actors and singers preform in PreCure as well. You got Megumi Nakajima who is Megumi/Cure Lovely from Happiness Charge who is known from Macross Frontier - that song Seikan Hikou. Nakajima is also the voice provider for the Vocaloid Megpoid Gumi. Tsubomi/Cure Blossom is voiced by Mizuki Nana - Hinata in Naruto, the Japanese voice for Katniss Everdeen in Hunger Games, and a singer (one of my top favs). There's more but that's all I know off the top of my head, main roles and side characters. Thank you for bringing attention to this series! I enjoyed listening to your take on it :)

exactly lol, I've almost seen all of them, some seasons are boring and some seasons catch my interest, but I can tell you 100% heartcatch is my most favorite precure season in the franchise

7:46 Not strange to Precure stories, having heavy themes like that. In the first generation, Nagisa almost has a breakdown because the fight they thought was over started again, and she almost drags Honoka down in her spiral of despair, only for Honoka's grandmother to talk about the time the city was destroyed by the events of the second world war when she was a child. On that same season, Honoka gets kidnapped and the villains torture Nagisa mentally to the point she just cowers in a corner playing shiritori with Mipple until she snaps out of it- meanwhile, Honoka is being physically tortured as she's being slowly consumed by darkness. Heartcatch may be the darkest season of Precure, but the series is no strange to heavy elements.

My first experience with Umakoshi's character design style was Casshern Sins, making Heartcatch Precure give off a very different vibe for me.
