This was my first precure season that I watched almost week to week. I love it. The bonds between women- whether friendship, romance, family- are so well done. Plus the multigenerational part make this a gem in my eyes. Itsuki is my girl. I love her so much.

The most tediously overrated.

Awesome review, one of these days I'm going to have to watch it all the way through. Definitely recommend Ojamajo Doremi, it's one of those shows where just about every character the main cast encounter is fun or quirky enough that even obvious filler or toyetic episodes are still fun and/or less groan worthy. It was always fun seeing one pop up in a later series/season and finding out what happened with them. Be forewarned the show is a beast when it comes to its sound track (hell, I think even the follow up novels have their own OST) so expect a lot of ear worms.

As much as I want Ojamajo Doremi to be extended with a more faithful dub, I feel like it might be difficult to do; mainly due to Momoko’s language barrier losing its significance if everyone else is already speaking English.

Actually I appreciate the kung fu episode being about Tsubomi wanting to become stronger after her last episode's terrible defeat. Sure, it went nowhere but it's the thought that counts.

That is a nice review, I love it. Heartcatch is also the series that got me into the franchise, and I am glad I finished it. I think this is one of Shoji Yonemura's greatest work though I think it is only because there are some staff keep advising him not to go too far. Also, FYI Ojamajo Doremi is REALLY GOOD, this is one of the anime that actually made me cry, and I am an adult watching a magical girl anime for kids and I still have tears watching it. Another thing, PPGZ while not the best incarnation of the PPG, but I do agree that it is miles better than the reboot we got. Looking forward for part 2.

Tbh, I got into Madoka Magica and precure at the same time: I searched up best magical girl anime and the first two were those. I watched both and here I am, knowing almost everything about madoka (I also play magia record, know the runes, etc) and even tho I don't know as much about Precure, I'm still a giant fan ^^

Alright first part of this done and great review so far!! I will say epsically after watching your Doremi reviews for almost a year at this point seeing the review were you both first mentioned Doremi and PPGZ is rather funny. Also I will say this season is hands down the season that felt most like a Doremi season which is odd since we've had a season with a protagonist that felt so much like Doremi that I call her Pretty Cure's version of Doremi in Nozomi. It feels most like Doremi because of it's secondary characters which I am sure watching some of Doremi season 1 you are seeing. Also as for a few notes I did think the episode with the Kung Fu kid was nice in how Tsubomi wanted to get stronger after a loss to Dark Pretty Cure and the couple episode besides some odd moments was super cute and nice to see a couple who's problem is fear of inadequacy in themselves to their lovers as I think that's more meaningful and human than two people who fight all the time only to have one moment to make them come together like other episodes from some shows so I appreciated the fresh take. Still I understand you're opinions on them and I very much agree with everything else in the video.

Okay why is it that when they fight dark cure they're left in flowy dresses instead of their civilian clothes I just don't get it It's like some kind of in between form

Kirby had three different Voice Actresses but his main one is Makiko Ohmoto, one did the voice of Luffy from one Piece, and the other one time voice actress was the one for Chypre

Thank you for reviewing this, I haven't seen it but heart catch is my least fav procure when it comes to design and animation, I don't like how the characters or faries look like, but your review for fresh made me want to see it so hopefully the same thing will happen here

Gets me thinking "oh boy this is a new take on- DAMMIT THEY'RE JUST GOING TO HAVE THEM FIGHTING OTHER MAGICAL GIRLS AGAIN!?" Still yearning for a new kind of 'dark' take on Magical Girls where the horror lies in the monsters and how they menace humans rather than boiling down to "let's brutalize little girls or pit them against each other... or both!"

@@AzenzoNe Ahhh, I hadn't heard of that one yet, then again a lot of anime get buried under all the other releases. Still, it sounds interesting enough. I might check it out sometime soon.

While I consider Heartcatch my least favorite season due to the generally boring victim of the week formula (I tried watching it again to see if my opinion on it has changed, and I seriously couldn't get past episode 5), I have to respect and commend everyone who worked on this show and enjoys it. I can 100% see why some people adore it. It's just personally not my cup of tea. Thankfully Go Princess exists now.

I can't @ you dispising Heartcatch for it's victim of the day formula and then praise Go Princess when it literally has the same pattern as well lmao. Heartcatch is known for it's superb storytelling and has widely recognize as the best Precure season.

Yeah, Zyuranger kinda sucked

Since this series was 49 episodes long, I watched it in 7 episode chunks and kept saying "if it doesn't hook me by episode number X, I'll drop the series" because this was one of the first magical girl series I watched back when I was marathoning the genre. It was also the 2nd Precure series, the first being Futari wa Pretty Cure, which I disliked so much I attempted to drop it after only 5 episodes, until I thought that was a bit harsh and tried giving it a 2nd chance, only to drop it at episode 15 as the absolute maximum amount of that show's awful I could take (mostly because of those ungodly annoying goddamn mepos, the series familiars/mascots, but the ineffectual villains didn't help either). Anyway, needless to say that introduction soured my hopes for the Pretty Cure franchise, hence my ultimatum that I must be hooked by episode X for Heartcatch. The show knew just how far to test my patience without ever going too far- and then rewarding me for my patience, it consistently managed to impress me just enough to push my deadline back by another 7 episodes (though it often cut a little close) until I watched the whole thing and I'd call it a good yet flawed series. Its biggest sin being its lackluster and confusing villains- which at this point seems to be an ongoing trend with the franchise. Anyway, I'm glad I stuck with it, because Tsukikage Yuri managed to earn a spot on my prestigious list of greatest anime characters of all time. Before I even knew who she was/realized she was the precure from the prologue, I remember first time I saw her on screen as Momoka's friend I thought "wow, she's really pretty". Wheather by sheer coincidence or some kind of theming with Moon characters, I remember having the exact same reaction when I saw Princess Luna the first time in the episode "Luna Eclipsed" back before I was a fan of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic- I just looked over at my brother who was a fan's laptop while he was watching it on a car trip. I still think that both Luna and Yuri are beautiful. Anyway, the villain goal was to turn the world into desert, right. Why? Heck if I know, presumably "because evil". One episode showed them enjoying a bouquet, so they don't hate plants. They seem to think their home dimension is boring and often pop over to the human world just out of boredom, and they've never been shown to have any issue surviving in our dimension, so they're not doing it to terraform. We have no reason to think their home dimension is unsustainable, so they're not trying to annex the human world as far as I can tell. They don't seem to prioritize destroying the precure very much, so the fact that the Heart tree is the source of their power doesn't seem to be a reason (and the precures only pop up in response to villains anyway, so they wouldn't have existed until after the acts of villainy had already started). Sabaaku doesn't seem to be a ruthless conqueror, he's not trying to enslave people or pursue an ultimate power McGuffin or anything, he's just trying to kill the source of all plant life for an undiscernible reason. Their nonsensical motive bugs the heck out of me.
