Awesome!!! Precure is a series that always gives me a hope when I get depressed. I know it's childish for a grown woman who want to have the courage of a team of magical girls but ever since I was a kid this genre has always made me feel like i could face anything . I know this comment is 4 years old by this point, but I don't think it's childish at all. In fact, I think it would be childish to judge someone for enjoying a children's show. I think Smile's theme in particular is really inspiring. And its funny nonsense helps me laugh whenever I'm feeling down!

I love how you described the end of the first half of the season and the episode with the Royal Clock because it shows why I love this season so much and Precure in general. One of the things Smile’s about is happiness and treasuring what makes you truly happy. Sure, you are going to come across hardships but it’s no reason to run away or ignore it, especially when you have friends by your side. That powerful speech and her willingness to not give up on her friends is why Miyuki is one of my favorite Pink Cures. Fillers or not, majority of the episodes are enjoyable and hilarious and the plot driven episodes are some of the best in the entire Precure franchise. I can’t wait for you character analysis in part 3. I’m also so glad you talked about the episode with Miyuki’s grandma. I literally laughed when Wolfrun’s Alternate Bad Reality failed on her.

Not only that, but despite it's simplicity, Smile shared one of the best moments in the entire franchise which came from the Yellow and Blue Cure. The fairytale motif presented by Smile gives archetype balance (lacking entirely in Suite, less prominent in Heartcatch). Lastly, Majorina/Policeman OTP. Ok, I'll shut up now.

+Yellowdaisy princess While none are going to be my favorite anytime soon, I do agree. As overpraised and overused Mana is, she at least has talent to back up the praise she gets. Ask for Megumi, her personality and traits definitely aren’t the best but it exists. Ichika has no unique character outside standard Pink Cure traits and is rather mediocre, yet there’s so much spotlight on her as if she earns it with people in the season keep talking about how great she is instead of actually showing it. Definitely the weakest Pink lead by far.....

+nintendolife25 Also, Mana and Megumi aren't selfish by butting in other characters' privacy (like Ichika did to Ciel...), and don't act like they know everybody's feelings (Ichika again...).

@U-U He/She meant excluding anything related to the Kirakira Cures or the season in general because most of it is rather the opposite of what made Pretty Cure.....well, Pretty Cure. The girls in that season aren’t an effective team, an endearing group, or formidable fighters and the plot is a complete mess in comparison to other seasons.

One thing I need to give Smile credit for which it really doesn't get is that EVERYONE has there moment in the spolight. There wasn't ONE character I felt that didn't get enough screen time. Everybody had their time to shine and it was great. I wish more precure seasons with bigger casts would do this. It really made me treasure this season and on my rewatch it really upped the value for it. It's just really heartwarming to see all the girls working together as a team. That being said, if you can get past some of the gratuitous filler, you'll like Smile. It really is a warm and fuzzy season.

I agree with you. It’s just another of the many reasons why Smile is one of my favorite seasons, while at the same time, I couldn’t get into its successor. Everyone gets a chance to shine and nobody feels left out or neglected. You really feel like these girls are more than just a group fighting against bad guys, they are really close friends. Also, major props for the season for actually showing us what it’s Pink Cure lead is about, rather than constantly telling us she is. A problem that’s sadly been apparent in recent Precure seasons.

@Gian Song yim The season also starts a problem I been having with recent Precure installments where the writers tend to overhype their Pink Cure leads and only say how great they are, rather than actually showing or proving it.

@Gian Song yim it had to be some sort of writer or editorial mandate. They probably thought if they made a "perfect" character, kids could relate to them. This is not including the fact that even characters like Superman struggled and are far from perfect. Even in Sentai, which I would argue has more of an influence on Japanese culture, those main characters struggle. My main guess is that because they went with a more linear plot the next season they just didn't think things through clearly. Because every done in Doki Doki is how NOT to do a team dynamic.

@@nintendolife25 Yeah. I feel like the only recent Pink Precure who isn't worshipped to hell and back is Hana. But that's only because she has a great backstory and her actions make sense. Her team loves her because she's essentially there cheerleader. She always does the best to cheer them up so they want to do the same in return. By all means it's mutual and not blatant worship like Mana or Megumi.

Their princess form is just a flashy white dress and a new haircut with crowns on their usual precure outfit, not very impressive but still beautiful. Oh and Reika's hair made me think of Sonic the hedgehog; it's funny X) I find it awesome that they are riding colorful pegasus, so cool! Also, this is one of my favorite group of pretty cure between all. Same for the season, almost every episodes were either epic or touching/cute. Nice review by the way, i agree with your comments on this anime.

Smile precure is my Favorite season since No other piece of media can make me more emotional. Also, it’s obviously the most visually stunning season and it looks great also considering that Toei made it.

Awesome review once again. Im so glad you didnt gloss over the homework/partygame episode as I found that one to be one of my favorites.

Awesome review as always, and I am not going to get tired saying that. I will say that Smile is not only the last Umezawa Precure series, but it also the last good Precure series until Go Princess came around, and even then it still falls almost rock bottom before jumping back up with Hugtto. There has been a lot of ups and downs in the Precure franchise lately, more so than Kamen Rider. I also agree that Yumenura should have make another Precure series, at least that won't suck as much. Another thing, Toei should really make a good Precure game for god sakes.

You know.....now that you mentioned it, I think Princess and, so far, Hugtto have been the only seasons I have been legitimately enjoying after Smile. Odd. While it’s not like the rest that followed afterward were bad, especially when judged on its own, I think it’s due to the fact they don’t hold a candle to prior season. Maybe from their recent common problem of the writers phoning in how great the season’s main character is rather than actually proving it, as well as, exclusive issues of each season. They made beat’em ups with the OG Cures on the GBA and another on the DS with the Yes, Splash Star, and OG Cures but that’s it. Still better than the mini game compilations in recent installments though....

nintendolife25 I think to me the Umezawa era was the last era where the Precures were actual Precures, better characters, better fights, better story, and best of all better growth. The only series I enjoyed after Smile but before Go Princess is Doki Doki, that's right I am one of the very few people that actually enjoyed Doki Doki and really appreciate what it did to the franchise. While Hugtto is a good series, but I wouldn't call it the best, especially when they fumble a lot in the second half. The Precure beat'em up games are way too easy, heck the Sailormoon beat'em up is actually harder and it also have their own RPG game, so what gives? I really don't like how Kamen Rider and even Ultraman are having decent games but not Precure.

@neptuniafan Ahh.....more power to you on Dokidoki. Forgive me if this is rather harsh but I, personally, struggled to get into Dokidoki and it’s characters, mainly due to many due to its cast all being overachievers and unbalanced screentime, as well as, introducing a problem I had with recent Precure installments with the show constantly telling us how great the main lead is except much worse since they hardly or never show/prove it. (Despite being a glory hog, at least Mana has talent to back it up.) Everything else, I agree though in Hugtto case, middle part of a Precure season is usually the weakest as even great ones like Fresh and Heartcatch has proven, so I personally don’t hold it against the show....for now. That’s pretty depressing considering Sailor Scouts are nowhere near close in being efficient fighters as 90% of the Pretty Cure. We need a good Precure game and fast. Maybe one that plays like one of the Dragon Ball fighting games or an RPG.

19:18 Not sure. But it might have something to do with the fact that the Big Bad Wolf is actually one of the *protagonists* of the series, so it would've been more about *him* defeating the house (with the Gingerbread Man being mortified by the whole thing).

Gingy already had his Newly done Gingerbread house smashed by something in a Shrek special (well by accident but still smashed)- the one with the ghost of Lord Farquaad. And We get one of the funniest lines from him: 'LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE! THAT HOUSE COSTED ME A LOT OF DOUGH!' XDDDD

I absolutely loved this review series, plus I really appreciated you saying you liked I Choose You, as well that’s probably my favorite of the Pokémon movies, which is saying something since I really love Takeshi Shudo and his ones

Glad to see you give Yonemura a fair chance. From the way you’ve harped on him in the past, it almost sounded like you saw him as the Merriwether Williams of Pretty Cure, spitting out dud after dud.

nintendolife25 Merriwether Williams is one of the head writers for MLP: FiM. While she has worked on other shows like Spongebob and has made some good episodes, she’s notorious in the Brony community for writing some the most hated episodes in the series.

To be fair, Miyuki and Yayoi had really shitty aim; Reika threw her ring a little too high; Noa accidentally threw her’s in the wrong direction when she was startled by a ladybug landing on her nose; and Akane almost had it, but Candy’s head was too big and the ring bounced right off of her.

Episode 21 and 22 are epic! The fights are awesome and intense, i was one hundred percent with Miyuki and her friends; i even cheer for them! It was that good :D I liked Wolfrun's guts and powers, this villain is my favorite with Joker even if he's really creepy sometimes. I'm always Ultra Happy when i watch thoses episodes! The Princess Forms are pretty but their dresses are the same and ON THEIR PRECURE OUTFIT. Why can't they be different dresses like the Star Twinkle had when they use their Zodiac pens? Each Zodiac form has a unique and beauitful style, the attacks are also various and colorful. Apparently Miyuki and the others were tricked by the Royal Queen and thoses '' new outfits '' were the only she could give them? Or is it Pegasus? Anyway, i'm a bit dissapointed by this!

The princess form is pretty especially the crowns and their giant hair but it's not that impressive. It's only white sparkly dresses on their precure uniform :S I prefer the differents forms of the maho precures or the princess precures honestly; they are creatives and beautiful. This transformation is ok, could be more impressive though. Smile precure is one of my favorite season with Suite and Heartcatch. Nice review of this great anime ^^ Oh and Miyuki is less dumb and lazy than Usagi from Sailor moon. This girl eat too much, often cry and run away during battles plus the other scouts are more proactives than her; yep! I find Miyuki much cuter and can easely relate to her, with Usagi it's the oposite; i don't hate her but she is kinda lame. Also, her boomerang-tiara attack isn't that impressive compare to Cure Happy's moves.

oh my god the names episode, that my favorite episode and I can really relate to yayoi cause the person who named me who's really dear to my heart died when I was really young so yeah that episode hit home quite well it makes me wanna cry

Royal Rainbow Burst is definitely one of my favorite PreCure attacks Gives me goosebumps everytime

Yeah but by different teams. Pokemon was being done by OLM Inc Team Ota while Berserk was being done by OLM Inc Team Iguchi who would later on take Team Ota's place as the team who did Pokemon during The Advanced Generation Series until sometime during The Diamond and Pearl Series when the current team Team Kato took over.

AzenZone Ah. Dreams in MLP FIM *can* get a bit weird at times. Luna sort of traveling the dreamworld doesn't help.

I find the japanese culture fascinating, especially with how they name their children. I want to make my own anime some day, but i am running into issues with the name i want to give the lead. I know what the translation of the name could be but its how to structure it that is puzzling me. And before anyone asks, one of the ideas for an anime i plan to make includes a Kingdom Hearts Anime. Before everyone declares the idea a flop based on how the games' story is ultimately flawed, consider the anime as a multiversal reimagining where the story is structured a little better, nit like in a bitter fanfiction kind of way, but in a more "i can tell just by playing KHIII that Nomura had to rewrite almost the entire script due to constant equipment and software failures during development, hense the constant delays in the games release and i feel terrible for him" way. The anime would indeed be the same as the games, with some details changed here and there like how Sora would be travelling with Donald's Nephews and Goofy's son, Max, or the final lineup of the 13 darknesses and 7 lights. More development for characters, like some lingering PTSD for Sora after having lost his world in the first game retelling. Etc. Such a project would require a generously consistant funding, meaning obligatory product placements....though then again the games already have some good ideas fof product placement, from the Keyblades, to the icecreams from BBS, the dream eater treats from DDD, and even Gummi Ship Building Sets similar to legos...all they need is to take advantage of those. Maybe not mass produce the sweets but open a shop that sells faithful recreations of them right down to the dishes they are served in. Those places make a heck ton of money...gotta fund the animation some how. But back to names. If Sora did have a last name I think it would tie the shore and the stars together...theclosest idea i had was Sora Nagisahoshi but i highly doubt thats a real japanese surname....opinions? I have been dying for constructive feedback for this anime idea since all i have been getting in person is mostly: meh or way to positive because "its kingdom hearts yay"

my fav precure series other than Fresh that got me into it ........... I stopped after Smile cuz I feel like it has PEAKED for me, and Doki Doki didn't really intrigue me all that much despite their their awesome Chalice weapons :P

As someone who started with the dub I think it's a great introduction to precure it's simple and cute that and it's not as deep as the other season which i think makes it a more of a good choice

Most likely due to Smile’s relatively easy-to-follow plot. Plus, I heard Smile is a rather popular Precure season in Japan barring Heartcatch and the OG, of course.

DAsher 1exp I never found the comedy cringy, and I laughed a lot. Also, with the fisrt battle against the Big Bad it made for an easy split and with the plot with this one it's pretty simple.

It's just a bunch of mini games (mostly rhythm games) where the player helps the Hugtto team through various jobs and the occasional Oshimaida fight. It's seems to be a Switch game designed for the younger kids.

Going by a quick scan through Precure Wiki, they're mostly just gimmicky Nintendo DS games and the like. The most popular game right now seems to be a mobil puzzle game as at least it's challenging.

There was a beat ‘em up on the GBA with the original Precure and another beat ‘em up with the Yes! Precure 5 and Splash Star Cures on the DS but that’s it.

Smile Precure second season was great but the ending was pretty awful.
