Hey, what’s up, guys? I hope you enjoyed another project. Please remember that this video product is meant for entertainment purposes only and intended for people of driving age, and that is not “made for kids”. Also Please Keep in mind I am not a professional and I have no professional training so don’t try this at home. Dan, Your channel has been one of the best sources of content, motivation, and courage to take on more XJ/ZJ projects. Thank you for taking the time to put these videos together for the rest of us to learn, laugh, and enjoy. You have great passion for these "non-Wrangler" Jeeps and an ability to share how it is done. I think the thing I appreciate the most is how you spend extra time to make the OE work again (ie. taking material from the spare tire cover to repair the driver's seat and dismantling switches, VICs, and mirrors to re-solder or clean contacts). Keep up the great work and great videos!!

Your videos on General G inspired me to find a ZJ, (my daughter was driving a 2wd) for daily driving and something to tinker with. I found a 95 for 1500$. It’s been three years and its the most useful vehicle I’ve ever owned even over several pickups I’ve had. I’ve hauled axles, transfer cases, trash to the dump, recycling, driven cross country, (WA to PA and back), where I slept in the back for two weeks. Now it’s my mountain bike trailhead rig. Wish I still had my 84 Scrambler but I really love this thing. Needs a new tranny soon and the valves are getting noisy but I’m keeping it. I keep the seats in the back laid down, in fact only the bottom to the small seat do I keep inside. That is for the my grandson’s seat. Awesome vehicle! Thanks General! Thanks Dan!

@Project Dan H: The Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir more-than-likely has that empty void at the top to help prevent a completely full reservoir from creating a vacuum as it empties, thus restricting flow through the line. Like filling a 2-liter soda bottle to the top, capping it and poking a hole in the bottom - it'll trickle out slowly - Remove the cap as it's draining and it'll start pouring out.

Dan thank you! I just bought our 6th ZJ! I’ve had new and fancy Grand Cherokees but I prefer the ZJ’s the best. The first was new in 1994 and we’ve been driving one consistently ever since. The latest is a ‘97 TSi w 5.2. Gonna run it through a body shop for clean-up and use a rusted-out ‘98 as a donor vehicle to upgrade any parts which are better on the donor. I’m excited the TSi doesn’t have a sunroof OR memory seats OR the auto HVAC system. Simple is better when dealing with vehicles with age.

I replaced the tumbler in my WJ with a part from Dorman that gets set to your original key the first time you use it, so no locksmiths required. @@martinvalencia6141 I was talking only about the key and the ignition cylinder, if you replace those, the key fob module does not change, and neither does the chip key. The Dorman ignition cylinder I am talking about gets coded to your key the first time you use it, so you don't need a locksmith at all for just replacing the ignition cylinder (which solves the problem with accidentally pulling the key out in the ACC position, leading to a dead battery, which is the issue Dan had with his ZJ.)

Thanks for the videos. I got my driver's side lower door hinge welded about a month or so ago and already one of the side welds has popped loose, have to get that welded again. I think what happens is the little thing that looks like a round gear stops rotating so it creates extra leverage on the hinge.

Dan, I'm sorry (and sad) to hear that you SOLD Gen. Grievous. I loved and learned a lot watching you rebuild Grievous. I own 2 ZJs, a 1996 and a 1997. The 96 is the exact same color as Grievous. I wanted to tell you that turning the key past off is called the AUX position. It is a normal function of this ignition tumbler (most cars I know of have an AUX position on the ignition tumbler. It's for playing the car stereo and other misc electricals without running the engine). Although, my keys do NOT pull out in the AUX position. I also wanted to tell you about another feature of the ZJ that most people don't know about. I'm not sure if the XJ or WJ or other Jeeps have the same feature (as far as I know it is a Chrysler thing so maybe they do?), but you can read your engine codes using the ignition cylinder. If your "Check Engine" light should come on for any reason, you can see the error code on your display without using an OBD code reader. Here's how...turn the ignition ON...OFF...ON...OFF...ON...OFF and finally ON...but DO NOT START THE ENGINE. Wait a minute. then Watch your lower right dash panel lights flash and count the flashes to read the number codes. The codes are usually 2 digit numbers...example: The first code will always be BATTERY code 12 and will look like 1) BLINK....2) BLINK-BLINK. End code will ALWAYS be 55 and will look like 5 BLINKS...5 BLINKS. All pairs of blinks in between 12 (battery) and 55 (end of codes) will be your trouble codes. I learned this trick with my 1996 ZJ when it had a bad ignition coil/ignition relay. I didn't know what was going on until I was told about this CODE trick and error code 45 kept coming up. I hope this is helpful information for future reference.

thank you so much for watching, yes the aux position is common however the keys are not supposed to come off. lol. not many people know about the Chrysler self-diagnostic mode. The XJs can be activated if you press and hold the odomiter button while putting the keys into the on position. Thanks!

ZJ 4.0 gets horrible gas mileage... but turns less than 1600rpm @65mph on the freeway, with a set of 31x10.50R15's with an unmodified suspension. ZJ 4.0 has annoying valve tappet 'tick', but starts every morning with no issues. ZJ 4.0 engineers made it so you can take the ENTIRE dash assembly apart and STILL not have access to the factory stereo antenna cable. ZJ 4.0 is NOT designed for people who are 6'5" - so even with the seat all the way back, you feel like you're kissing the dash. As an added BONUS - you simply cannot fold the back of the rear seats down all the way, unless the driver seat is all the way forward and you can somehow manage to drive down the street the door open and your legs spread apart like a woman in the stirrups at an OB/GYN office. ZJ 4.0 is something you cannot help but fall in love with, though. Easy to shift in and out of 4-wheel drive, rides comfortably and has a great turning radius - until you start messin' around with oversize tires on that unmodified suspension. As it is right now, I've done minor plastic bumper trimming and inner fenderwell rolling - but absolutely REFUSE to hack the fender up for added clearance. - I'd rather wait and install a lift.
