The first time I drove my wife's zj. I was surprised by how fast, powerful and nimble they are. They don't look like they drive like they do. We now have 3 very loved zj's in the family. That first impression will last forever.

One friend divorce his wife over it. The other paid for it. But the Jeep was too far gone to fix with my knowledge base at the time. So she became a part Jeep.

Evening! I found your KZread channel today, and I have to say I love your Jeep. I own a 98 ZJ Laredo that I am looking to fix up like yours (sort of). I definitely want to keep it gas efficient going I want to do lots of Cross Country Backroad Discovery Routes in her. Looking forward to getting my own KZread channel going and to seeing more of your videos. Take care and have a great weekend.

I’m one of those kids who don’t know everything. I got a repair manual from autozone and I’ve already learned much from just a few hours of reading around. Hoping once I can fix my coolant issues I’ll be able to move on to adding/upgrading things I’d like. First is cupholders lol.

for the pinging, it could be combustion chamber carbon... there is Mopar combustion chamber cleaner, but this is usually for the 5.2 engines... you put it in the intake while it's running and let it run then shut it off then let it sit then run it again... might work for the V6 engines... but read the instructions, this is just what I remember...

@@cravenadventures similar but not the same... this is more aggressive as far as I know, but I've only put seafoam in my gas tank, not my oil... i dont think you put seafoam right into the intake of a running car... i think you put it in the gas tank and a different formula seafoam in where the oil goals... but i'm just remember... not an expert at these cars... i did put seafoam in my 5.2 gas and it made it run better... i havent done the mopar combustion chamber cleaner because it's more involved and takes longer, it's a process... and I'm lazy.

I don't understand what a riser is or a Front PC, unless you're talking about a limb riser. Of which I don't have. If you're talking about the lift kit its a Iron rock off road 7in long arm pro kit. If it's got 300k on that engine, you should probably just get it completely rebuilt. I put used heads on a rebuilt short block once. Won't make that mistake again. It burned alot of oil smoked blue smoke constantly. The only thing I could do to fix it was buy a pair of rebuilt heads and install them. At that point it would have been cheaper and easier to have just bought a completely refurbished long block complete with 3yr 70k mile no fault warranty. In fact that's what we did recently replaced my brother's 5.9L Magnum in his Durango. First, it was difficult to find a decent used 5.9L. First one I dragged home from the wrecking yard,. Pulled the pan ,bearings were gone and crank was damaged. Took it back and exchanged it for another one and that one had cracked heads. Returned it because they didn't have another one. If you remove your exhaust manifolds and look inside the runners and see gunky oily carboned up mess. Don't even bother with those heads. At least do a leak down test on em if you decide to go ahead and use them anyway. You can rent a leak down test kit at nearly any auto parts store. So far I've bought 3 remanufactured engines from Autozone since 2018, Remanufactured by a company called NON - OE. Haven't had any problems with them....yet😆. I also bought a remanufactured 44RE for my 96 ZJ last year. 70k mile warranty also. I was gonna buy a used one,but believe it or not? The wrecking yard talked me out of buying a used automatic transmission 42re or 44re. They said they'd sell me one and give me a 2week warranty instead of the normal 30 days or you can buy a 90 day warranty. But not on those ones because they are usually roached when they get them. And they don't like selling junk because it gives them a bad rep. I go there fairly often and I trust them. 😆

Funny that you say rebuild her... a few days after I filmed this my far rear freeze plugs failed or at least I am 95% sure it is them. There is still a very slim chance the coolant is coming out of the rear water jackets of the intake manifold. long story the bolts that came in the Fel-Pro intake kit cannot take being torqued to 25ft-lbs. So I got them as close to it as possible right before they go spongy and snap. So if it isn't the intake then a full engine rebuild is in order. I have had these heads off before they are still very good.

@@cravenadventures That 5.9L I pulled out of my brother's Durango had some bad Freeze plugs behind the bell housing. There was also coolant inside the engine when I pulled the oil pan off. I used the Felpro Intake gasket kit on the new engine. I used a.in/lb torque wrench and blue lock tight on the bolts. I don't think kegger manifolds are sposta be torqued to 25ft lbs. Old cast iron Mopar intake manifolds yes. Kegger manifolds are only sposta be about 12 ft lbs torqued down in 3 steps. I used the blue lock tight to prevent oil from creeping up the bolts over time and I don't want it to loosen up. I think that's how coolant go into the oil pan.. I think it was coming from a leaky intake manifold gasket.

  • @cravenadventures

I have upgraded my intake manifold and no longer using the keg intake. But everywhere I have read including the service manual bible its a 2 step 12ft-lbs then 25ft-lbs. Some sites have 35ft-lbs which to ne seem crazy high. But I can say it 12ft-lbs I still leak coolant from the water jackets. So its not tight enough. I got a new gasket and better grade 8 bolts I am going to see if it's the intake frist. If not then I pull the motor and do a full rebuild.

I know it seems off. But new the estimated GPM she w Should be getting 17 one highway. When I got her and swapped everything over to Royal Purple oils. I was getting 20-25 depending on how fresh the oil was. I also let the torque drive the Jeep. And it helps a lot to drop the NP249 to a NP242 Two Wheel Drive uses less input to get moving. The less then motor has to work then better gas mileage you will get. I am currently doing a engine rebuild on this Jeep once done I will show proof and do a video on it. I believe your ZJ could get better mileage then mine with them right gearing using 2wd when 4wd isn't needed and going to a better oil. Amsoil or Royal purple with some Zinc.
