    Although it's a very different show with a different audience. I wondered something similar about the Alteans from Voltron. You evoke common characteristics from other franchises in a character, so within a few minutes, the viewer understands 80% of the character. Then you only have to fine-tune the other 20% to your storytelling needs. Relying on, for lack of a better word, stereotypes.

    You need to run what I call the "hamma test." No not hamma time, no not hammock time (looking at you Jake) No. I'm talkin war hammers. I'm talkin sledge hammers. Do they use comically large hammers in battle? (Use 90s anime comparison model to determine 'comically oversized weapon' value and use that as x in the formula.) Do they use anime to medieval blacksmith size hammers for mining and/or blacksmithing purposes? If yes to any of the above, congratulations ya got a space dwarves

    It’s weird how the andorians and tellarites aren’t present as officers on starfleet vessels. They’re part of the federation yet they don’t have much on screen participation in starfleet like the Vulcans. I always thought the two were synonymous, now that I think about it it seems that starfleet is just an arm of the federation among the various planetary/species govts and their space forces

    Watch Star Trek Prodigy! Jankom Pog, one of the protagonist, is the engineer of the group. There is also an Andorian first officer in the show, serving Admiral Janeway in the USS Dauntless.

    I would definitely have at few Tellarites on my crew. They are some of the best engineers in the Federation, bar none. Having a Tellarite chief engineer would be the next best thing to having Montgomery Scott, and would be worth the extra headache of them being somewhat argumentative, as that would also entail having an advisor with the ability to look at different views of a situation.

    As most people say, despite its flaws, Enterprise really helped to expand the original lore and create updates to a lot of the makeup. I never gave the Tellarites much thought until Enterprise and I've since grown to find them unique and fun. Though admittedly, I didn't care for how New Trek has portrayed them. I feel like a lot of the aliens in those shows get the Lord-of-the-Rings-ification treatment and end up looking too Orc-ish. All-in-all great video!

    That episode where the tellarite bounty hunter with a heart of gold captures Archer for instance. Of all the infamous "Archer in prison/gets tortured for extended periods" episodes, I would say that episode by FAR has the coolest looking jail cell. And that's on a god damn spaceship. Those idiots who ran the sulliban death camp were, frankly, fairly boring with their cell design

I enjoyed your video as I’m planning a Tellarite captain and Ithenite chief medical officer. As others have said, I want to see more TOS alien races on my starship. I like the idea of a Tellarite captain with 3 digits on one hand and 5 on the other. Like the Romulan brow ridges I think there could be T’s w either 3 or 5 fingers or on rare occasion, both! Thanks again.

    Tellarites have been around since like s2 of TOS yet it wasn't until I had watched every series that I realised they were a "thing" with a history in the franchise. They're not as obnoxious and stupid as ferengi plus they're fairly generic looking pig men style aliens without many stand out features. At least Orions are green so you can see who they are based on skin colour. Tellarites just look like unkempt middle aged men

    But in response to your comment, I agree it would have been so cool to get a series of the actual formation of the Federation, not just the events immediately before it. I want to see the awkward exchanges as actual Starfleet personal from other species learn to work together. I want to see planning and procurement staff determining how best to go about meeting nutritional requirements of other species in the context of extended exploratory missions. Very cool ideas so thanks for posting and making me think about it

    I think that the Tellarites have not shown up very much on Star Trek is that besides some difficulties with the makeup, the writers have not had a good and compelling story to associate with them. They are stout and argumentative and dependable, but that hasn't given the writers anything to say with them.

  • @palmercolson7037

    @palmercolson7037

    @@discobolos4227 Oh, dependable is a poor choice of words. It is supposed to include all the "prominent species of the Federation", "technology", "science", "public servants" and all the other terms from the video. The issue is that they were just never mentioned very much even in passing. Like I said, the writers couldn't figure out how to use them as individual characters in so many series until one shows up in Enterprise and then other series start including a Tellarite. I don't have Paramount+ so I haven't watched a lot of the series beside Picard and Strange New Worlds, so I saw only one or more in three different series in the video.
