I appreciate fully charged show demonstrating these vehicles, ultimately we all want to help towards the energy transition without breaking the bank. No matter where these vehicles are made, as the Mozilla foundations report last year demonstrated, there are some very serious privacy concerns with many EVs surrounding the collection and use of personal information. I understand in addressing this/discussing it on the show that there's the potential to scare/worry others about getting an EV which is against the transition goals. But, if we don't talk about it, regulatory change will only take longer and forwarned is forearmed for those looking to purchase an EV. Thank you

Speaking of technology. My sister has a new hybrid car. Almost a year now. No idea nor interest in how the cruise control works, nor what the B is for on the gear selector. Nor what the modes do or how to change them. And I suspect most people are like her. Way too many options that just confuse and get in the way of just getting in the car and going on the school run or going to th shops. So for a lot of people who just need a straight forward car for straight forward needs, it's going to appeal just fine.

Chery is unique in the Chinese automotive industry in that they got into exporting cars years ago instead of focusing on the Chinese home market (or perhaps partially because Cherys are just not that competitive against their domestic competition at home) and currently is exporting a million cars a year. I think Chery might actually sell more cars abroad than they do inside China. So perhaps it is not surprising they are focused on launching their new cars internationally.

When it's sunny someone's always got the sun in their eyes, and when it's open there's too much wind noise, and annoying buffeting unless I crack a window. I'd rather have my next car without, but then you tend to miss out on all the other good stuff.

  • @timscott3027

This is undoubtedly bullshit. Tyre pollution is caused by weight and driving style, and tyre composition etc. As EVs are mostly heavier they will cause slightly more. But they don't literally blow out smoke into people's faces and lungs as ice cars do. So probably better I would say. Oh no my EV makes .014 more tyre wear. Its just scaremongering.

It’s wise to be cautious, and so called Legacy Auto (if it needs a name) are not resting on their laurels as far as I can see. They are however taking the long term strategic view IMO, and with all the hype that is going on currently are better served by a slower ramp up.

  • @ensteffo

@@ensteffo Many assumptions by us all. A few who are close to manufacturers would possibly know best. The rest is speculation, including my own thoughts on this. I think they are taking a little bit of time to have a really good look at the race to EV Nirvana, and without being cynical or with any hint of irony. Governments are concerned and consumers are befuddled. Concerns are valid. IMO apart from range, charging, stewardship of resources and stranded investments the current flavour of concerns is oversensitive ADAS. How did we get to the point so soon in the history of EVs? Also, few report on the missed opportunities of EVs to kickstart mobility options, and we are now seeing some so called legacy auto makers starting to dip a toe in the water regarding this. So far, other than concepts, that really has not happened yet IMO. The real disruption that new energy vehicles can bring to market are yet to begin. I don’t think it’s where we are right now, so the caution by established makers is warranted. Slowly, slowly and time to evolve.

Not meant as Sinophobia … I own an MG4 … but this looks like the kind of car the Chinese industry was putting out 10-15 years ago. There are styling cues that are direct lifts from existing cars. And there are two other brands I can think of with five letter names ending in DA … Mazda and Honda. But none ending in ODA. And when you take the cutouts in the letter forms into account, it’s hard NOT to draw comparisons. I think this is much closer than the Polestar/Citroën similarity. And you have shamed yourself by suggesting my comment is a slight on Chinese manufacturing in general. All countries entering the global automotive market - going back to the 1890s - start with a “copycat” strategy, before they find their own feet. And the Chinese industry has, on the whole, ditched this strategy and made amazing and unique cars since. Which is why Omoda strikes me as a peculiar throwback.
