This 2024, so many people are accused of horrible things and punished without evidence. This episode is so relevant. We are in a state of mass hysteria right now, over so many things. This is most important episode in the whole series.
I share your love for this episode and it is still so relevant today. Thank you for this amazing analysis ♥

I've long liked this episode. I've seen some people try to use it as a lever against Joseph McCarthy, though, which I think is inaccurate. He was trying to point out evils and subversive elements, which turned out to be very real and pervasive. Perhaps there's a lesson in there, though, about how enemies are different from mere political rivals, and how hysteria or the *perception* of hysteria (or accusation thereof) can undermine even the best of intentions. It's absolutely true that villains often cloak themselves in feelgood rhetoric... and it's also true that villains will try to make heroes look like that sort of villain for taking moral positions.

That's a good one, but it isn't as rich thematically.

It’s a really great episode, but I’d put Who Watches the Watchers just above The Drumhead. Maybe 1st and 2nd place?

That's a good one too, but not one of my favorites actually. Perhaps I should rewatch it.
