I know you don’t really look at comments much so I doubt you’ll see this but I’ve been a huge fan for a long time & just want to say thank you, lex. For inspiring me every day & teaching me more than I ever could’ve learned in school. You’ve made me addicted to learning, thinking deeply, & with nuance. These conversations are truly priceless works of art.

Weird, he mentioned binary planets and then super earth having too much gravity to escape it, and it made me think, what if what they detected is actually a binary pair and not one giant rocky planet 🤔 super Earth's always seemed odd to me conceptually. Anywho, great episode!

You actually estimated how "much genius" is out there? I'll give you one thing: although I'm not sure how any person/group of people *could possibly* go about doing that, it would have been a rather unique endeavor.
They are both so articulate and thoughtful, but also both so good at having a back and forth conversation. It was a compelling watch.

This is how I relax in the face of possibly terminal illness. Knowing people like these two beautiful humans exist and are trying their best to keep an eye on the ball… just gives me an almost religious sense of hope for the future… in the face of a very uncertain future, that’s truly a gift. I aim to repay that gift in any way I can, big or small, to my very last breath. If you’re reading this in the future, my fellow archaeologists of the weird and wonderful, then know that I love you. Rogan and youtube saved my life. I rarely watch JRE now but he introduced me to so many ideas and people. Lex is standing on the shoulder of a giant and he has snatched the grasshopper out of his hand. Not only has Lex introduced me to so many great people and ideas (just subbed to cool worlds 😎) but had incredible episodes with people I learned of through Joe. The Duncan Trussel thumbnail popping up was like Xmas morning! I love them both, I think I am just a little more like-minded with lex. He always asks the questions I have for the guests. Lex, I know you read the comments. I'm half drunk so forgive my sloppy post but I fucking love you man, you are like the "perfect best friend". I have great people in my life but you have never said or done anything of any significance that I disagree with. Same goes for Duncan. The RZA episode was incredible as well, really helped me think about life/death in a new light. Your therapy session for Kanye really just exposed how big of a heart you have. He is such a sad case, you tried so hard to help him. I miss the old Kanye and I hope he can find peace somehow. People like you are my hope for the future of humanity and whatever type of AI being we birth. You are so humble it is hard for me to word this but you have saved my life man. I have been in some dark places. In 2010 I tested the "benzodiazepines rarely kill you by themselves" with .25g of phenazepam. I am here now and when I am lonely and start to go into dark places I watch your videos and it really helps a lot. I want to be like "have x person on" but that has to get annoying. I selfishly want to see a few specific comedians but you find amazing new people. You magically make a conversation with anyone incredible and get incredible guests for every pod. I will shut my drunk ass up now. Sorry for the book.
I’m so happy I found this!!! I owe Lex so much. He has enriched my life
David Kipping is a very good example of intelligent life as a creation of the universe. I really wish more people were as kind and smart as him
I am 56 yr old, and these podcast blow my mind. When I was in school, there was no way possible to hear conversations like these. A basic science class with a average educated teacher was not really stimulating. Lex gets extremely fascinating people on the cutting edge everything you could imagine and probably never imagined. I kind of sad that missed out conversation like these.

Something that has fascinated me recently is listening to lectures from the scientists and public intellectual's of the past. It really insightful to learn how they thought about the direction society would take, and what advances they expected would change the world versus what really ended up taking place

What an absolute gem of a human being. Love love the conversation about intellectual honesty, ego, assumptions, belief. I would not pick up a scientific paper unless my work required hiring an expert, so I thank you Lex for bringing in the people, the experts, to discuss their work. I'm so grateful for your podcast 😘
This is probably the best episode of your show I've ever watched.
Although I didn't understand all he spoke of, this conversation is fascinating in how it starts with the difficulties in discovering big truths from minuscule measurements and arcs into big theories of possibility. Dr Kipping's process of critical thinking in an of itself is enlightening. The conversation in its entirety gives insight to the challenges the scientific community faces along with the human interpersonal challenges that make up its personality. This is what science should be... Not what we experienced in 2020-2022 covid phase... "you should just believe what we say with no skepticism allowed". Sure, most trying to just do the right thing... But the "listen to the science" people when science was extremely limited were off base and I hope they all learned a huge lesson on what science really is. Skepticism is welcome and not to be shamed, try to proce it wrong so that the science is sound, and invite different perspectives

not sure how logical it is to conclude all these things from 1 pixel.... True science begins with receiving a love of the truth and coming to a knowledge of the truth requires an examination of all the "knowledge" on a subject... God has revealed Himself in His creation and His purpose in His Word. It is worth your time to read the Bible for yourself and learn about the only Creator mankind has on record speaking to mankind in the first person. God has given us a gift of reconciliation to Him by faith in Jesus, not astronomy... spend some time learning about Jesus through His Word, reading it for yourself.... it is worth it.
Lex, I am really loving the graphics that you are adding over parts of the conversation. These animations really help the technical material become intuitive to those who do not have a background in the field.
Keep coming back to this episode. Like one of those movies, what You can watch again and again while finding something new every time. One thing i take away: We should treat this planet and universe as we're the only ones 'till it gets disproved! And this has responsibilities...
What a brilliant conversation. I really like this guy. I’m doing a Masters in theology and the same basic principles apply. You can’t come to any study with a preconceived view of what we know. All aspects and possibilities must be considered. This enriched my thinking massively
Thank god. You have no idea how much I needed an episode like this. Away from culture/religion (not that that’s bad). I feel like these open my eyes wider. Thanks Lex
Thanks for inviting professor Kipping. His take on alien life and colonization of Mars in particular, among others, exactly matches mine. I have huge respect for people that love what they do and can talk about it in such an engaging and passionate way. I wish I could have a conversation like this with him.

There are already colonies on Mars (from Earth). Secret Space Programs are very real!
Probably my two favourite broadcasts on KZread ~ thank you
The best episode I've listened to in a long time, some great talking points and ideas.
Lex, you are the best. Your graciousness, quality of content, knowledge, and spirit. Hands down, magnificent! Thank you.
I could fall asleep listening to Lex Fridman and David Kipping's voices every night.

Thought provoking, really enjoyed these two picking each other's minds.❤
Yes, he is the most interesting guest I've seen so far, and that is saying a lot, given all the excellent people you've had on.
The day I never thought would arrive is finally here. A union between the person I wake up to interviewing the person I fall asleep to. Thank you so much for this, Lex. It took you long enough!

Thank you, very grounded conversation. I appreciate how this guy tempered Lex’s usual daydreams of aliens and space travel because most guests indulge him instead of being pragmatic

One of your best podcasts that i have discovered 😊
I'm more concerned about nuclear weapons, AI & natural or man-made pandemics than climate change. AMEN LEX, that's exactly what I was thinking when he said it. Love the interview
I left KZread running when I fell asleep and woke up to this. I was a pretty weird way to wake up and absorb part of this conversation. 😂 Very interesting discussion to say the least, and I haven’t been listening that long. ❤
Best Lex episode. Love the level-headed thinking Prof Kipling brings to combine with Lex’s hopeful excitement. Fun episode.
Love Carl Sagan's ending quote. THANK YOU Lex for a deeply complex interview.
Two Brilliant men. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼
Kipping is so great and so is his channel. What a great combo lex and cool world's bravo. By the way both are great to listen to whenever insomnia is kicking my ass.
wow so glad you had david on...please have him more! Cool Worlds youtube channel really stokes your imagination. im a huge fan, this is fascinating
Great interview. During your next interview with David, you should ask his thoughts on solving the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture or the Navier-Stokes Existence and Smoothness Problem
I found one quite interesting point. When talking about the layers of several simulation realities, I think what I understand from David's reasoning is that at each step of thinking about the problem, each time you say I'm going to do or believe the most likely thing (we are not special). Then, you would reach a state where you are more likely to reach a common system for the whole system. But that only works if all the arguments are independent, but if you are doing a Bayesian thinking, then you admit that things are allowed to be dependent. As David talked through it, if you assume that the way the civilization in each layer has similar quality of observations of the higher layer (they don't see it), have similar intention of building it, etc. Then you are implicitly assuming that these systems are all similar, which if it was random they wouldn't have to be. It seems like the situation with entanglement, you could try to measure individual states of two particles and try to put them together but that would not be able to describe a state of two entangled particles, because the state is not a linear sum of two state vectors but rather a single state in a different vector space (which we describe with tensor product). It's also like if you ask me to give you a random list of heads and tails, I would often try to avoid having too many heads in a row without getting tails. If you try to be general in every argument, you could end up with something that is not general but rather special. Because if things could be dependent, which they are in a recursive scenario of some sort.
Lex was born to do these interviews!
Can it get any better? Lex Fridman + David Kipping = Perfect Podcast.
Thank you Fridman. Brilliant! Quite fascinating! And just ‘out of this world’! 🌺 🌺
Just before 2:24:16 , inside of the video the information provided about the frog is new to me. This is most awesome, very happy that material was covered so now I have something to look into new, thank you.
