The World's Most Valuable Whisky: The Macallan Adami 1926 | Sotheby's

The Macallan Adami 1926 is famed as the world's most valuable whisky after it set the record at a Sotheby's auction in 2019 when it sold for £1.5m. This is the first of these famed vintage bottles that has returned to Sotheby's since that record was set. It was bottled in 1986, having been in a cask for 60 years, the oldest vintage ever produced. This particular bottle is most notable due to its condition. Sotheby's worked directly with The Macallan to have the cork and capsule replaced with bespoke materials. During this process the liquid underwent clinical analysis to prove its authenticity and the condition was assessed and approved by The Macallan's Master Distiller, Kirsteen Campbell. This bottle is now the foundation of authenticity against which all other 1926 bottlings will be assessed.
The live auction takes place 18 November at Sotheby's London, alongside a large number of whiskies hailing from The Legendary Cellar of Pierre Chen as part of Sotheby's sale series of this collection entitled The Epicurean's Atlas. Mr Chen is one of the world's most renowned wine and whisky collectors with a penchant for the finest things in life and an incredible eye for quality. Bottles from The Macallan Fine & Rare Series, The Macallan Red Collection and a full set of The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars are among the highlights from this venerable collection.

It was sold Saturday for almost $2.7 million, an auction record for a bottle of wine or spirits.

There is an old saying from the days when collecting miniatures was en vogue in the 60s. They're worthless if you open them; and pointless if you don't...

I see that the bottle fetched £2.187,500 in reporting in The Guardian on November 18th 2023 - the most expensive bottle in the world to date!
