The Voyage Beyond the Solar System [4K]

Ғылым және технология

Of all the spacecraft to have visited other worlds, there are two which have travelled further than any other, discovering more about the Solar System than their inventors ever could have imagined. They are the legendary pair of Voyager Probes; still the only spacecraft ever to have visited the Ice Giant planets, Uranus and Neptune. And the story of their 40 years in space makes up the topic of our video today- from the gas giants, to the ice worlds, and then out into the depths of interstellar space...

Imagine designing or building or operating one of those deep space probes and then seeing this video and others like it. The thought of “I did that” would be so pleasing and satisfying. Just think of how our knowledge has advanced through these space missions, it’s almost unimaginable how much pride the family’s of the people that enabled this for us must have in them. I’m proud just because I’m a human and Australia has a radio space telescope in the deep space network. You should be proud as well of your fantastic efforts with all these videos. Long format are the best by far though. Grrr to shorts though.

Technically, 6 probes have reached the solar system’s escape velocity, if you include the Parker Solar probe, though it’s not on a trajectory to leave the system, it’s by far the fastest any man made object has ever traveled. 😉 Excellent video as always. The book, The Grand Tour, which collected Voyager photographs through 1986, was what first truly awoke my interest in science and exploration as a kid. I was always awestruck at what we were able to achieve with these tiny craft launched before I was even born.

Sub-atomic particles at CERN or at other accelerators travel way faster, (supposedly about 99.9% the speed of light). Although it could be argued that sub-atomic particles do not fit the definition of man-made objects.

@@squarerootof2 yeah, those are definitely not man-made objects, I’m talking about a macroscopic construct of some kind. 😄

@@tomorowsnobodys "manhole cover"? You mean something like a butt plug propelled by bio-fuel?

Supposedly. At least as far as the high-speed cameras FPS count and the fact that it was only seen in ONE of those millions? of frames after the explosion. It was never found, soo....possibly? I just can't comprehend that it could actually make it into LEO, given the INSANE amount of fuel it takes to get a satellite into orbit!🤷🏼‍♂️

I've only just stumbled across this channel. I've spent a few hours listening to your stuff in the background or while chilling in bed (while it takes me ages to unwind) already. Love it here. Cheers boss man 🫡

Bravo bravo, another awesome documentary. Spacetime is the channel I go for learning about the quantum or micro physics of the universe(also the macro but you can never get to much education when it comes to the universe)and SEA for the broader not so much theoretical aspects of nature. Thank you again for your skills in animation, editing, and narrating.

Just found your channel, great vid! The thing that amazes me the most about the voyager probes, is they managed all those manouvers, and travelled all of that distance (and still going). It was completely unknown territory in so many ways, and through it all; Not one random bit of debris from our infinitely large universe has collided with either. I have no idea the odds, but all it would take is one little rock, and over 40 years on it hasnt happened.
