The Vegan Ironman Diet of Cro-Mags’ John Joseph

Ойын-сауық

John Joseph is a very well-known figure in both the hardcore punk and vegan communities. As lead singer of legendary New York hardcore band Cro-Mags, he's used his status and platform to spread the word about the benefits of plant-based diets and PMA (positive mental attitude).
What not a lot of people know about John is that on top of being an active touring musician and author, he also competes in the Ironman triathlons. These brutal tests of endurance consist of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run. To say a lot of training and diet go into competing and finishing an Ironman would be an understatement.
We follow John as he prepares for an event in Boulder, CO to see what fuels a plant-based endurance athlete under such intense training.

Man, I watched this back in 8th grade (Sep. 2015). Since then, Ive made a full recovery form a brain tumor (Oct. 2015), went vegan and as of Sep. 2022 I am also an Ironman. Many more signed up for next year. Thank you for being such a big part of MY Ironman journey, John.

Man I thought I was the only one going thru nostalgia. Mine was in 2016. Summer. I was sitting in at home after an all day MTB ride up in MARIN CA. Wanted to change my diet and I saw this guy on here "KZread". Man total BadAss. and in a Punk Band as well in NYC? Super Inspirational. Now. 12/4/2022. 7 years later. MTB has all been phased out. Long Distance Running / Ultra Marathons is the new thing. Eating Clean and Doing Intermittent Fasting to stay in shape and most importantly Racing Weight. Sure saved thousands when it comes to MTB GEAR / Parts etc. Now it's just RUNNING SHOES and essential clothing. Moving Forward one step at a time. Keep Crushing it Bro.

I am Indian, I was born in a vegetarian family not by choice. Vegetarianism sounds good on paper, but you suffer from low energy, low wound healing, low B12 level, low libido to save animal which kill its fellow animal within a heartbeat and not think twice, its not worth it I thought. I can take their lifeforce and use it to move living beings to a more peaceful, advanced place.

Completed my first half Ironman few weeks ago. Have my full one in 9 weeks. And always come back to this video to remember myself where it all started. "Enjoy it, that's what it is. Even if he was on roids(which i don't know if he is or isn't - and neither do you), he would still need the building blocks to repair the tissue broken from the excercise, plus all the energy he burns while doing so. So unless you're claiming that he is on roids + not vegan, your claim makes no sense.

Meat gives you dopamine rush long before you manage to absorb any nutrients, that's why it makes you feel good.(and look forward to it). But so do drugs, social media, watching porn etc.. You seem to have a long way to go to any kind of wisdom my friend.

I’m vegan and It pisses me off when shit like “parents starve vegan baby” or “Vegan girl dies from malnutrition.” It’s not because they’re vegan it’s because that they’re not getting enough carbs and fats. They’re just eating lettuce. You need roots and legumes and fruit to survive, but people go into veganism without any prior knowledge and they get sick.

I love John Joseph. I relate completely, grew up singing in punk and hardcore bands. Left home at 15, somehow became vegetarian, took a fuck load of drugs, then lived with the Hare Krishnas Hahahaha

Start on a treadmill on a low speed for short intervals then daily increase the speed and duration. Also do stretches and a light snack before running.
