I've always found that the most powerful form of silence in a book is the blank half a page between one chapter and the next.

I have a book of blank pages called “The Book of the Book” by the Sufi writer, Idries Shah, which I use for meditation. The book has an introduction which explains its origin and transmission and how its “contents” contain the culmination of all teachings and the secret of life, and it is blank. It’s my most prized possession.

I appreciate the idea behind that but if you paid the price of a normal book, that seems like more of a grift than anything else.@@WhoOneIs

00:37 🤫 Silence is not purely an absence but coexists with noise, movement, and subtle sounds. 01:51 🧠 Studying silence helps understand its nature and use it intentionally in relationships and personal growth. 03:30 🤔 Reflecting on personal experiences of silence can reveal its impact and significance in daily life. 05:15 📚 Incorporating silence into education through structured activities fosters deeper understanding and appreciation. 07:35 😶 Silence can create discomfort by forcing attention to one's thoughts and emotions, challenging expectations. 09:54 🌱 Practicing silence in nature requires skills and tools to fully embrace its benefits. 11:56 🤫 Differentiate between types of silence: acts of silencing, social silences, and profound interconnected silences. 14:29 🔄 Engage with silence through observation, discussion, reflection, and reading to cultivate a deeper understanding. 16:15 ⚖ Mastering the craft of silence involves aspiring for balance rather than achieving a static state.

The video is about the value of silence and how to use silence in our everyday lives. The speaker, Olga Lehman, argues that silence is not the absence of sound, but rather a presence of something else. She says that silence can be full of noises, and that it can be a powerful tool for self-reflection, connection with others, and creativity. Lehman discusses different types of silence, including: Silencing acts of silencing: These are silences that are used to oppress or exclude others. Explicit silences: These are silences that are expected in certain situations, such as in libraries or hospitals. Idealized silences: These are the silences that we seek out, such as the silence of nature or the silence of meditation. Lehman also shares some tips for how to incorporate more silence into our lives, such as: Paying attention to how much we talk and how much we listen. Taking time for silence each day, even if it's just a few minutes. Reflecting on our experiences with silence. Overall, the talk is a call to action to pay more attention to silence and to use it as a tool to improve our lives.

Excellent speech! ❤ When I think about the role of silence in our lives, I recognize it is a balancing act. Silence allows us to listen to what a person is saying, also to clear our own minds. I enjoy my silent moments during meditation and when I am outside in nature or contemplating art. I noticed that with age I need more quiet spaces than ever before. And of course I noticed your cute skirt 😉

As a chronic daydreamer, I find that the louder the world gets, the quieter I get. The more noise there is, the more noise there is to withdraw from.

I think most introverts inherently possess this skill as the silence is their comfort zone , and they always need to recharge their energy in silence or alone. They feel comfort and ease in this kind of environment.

I'm learning to use my tools. Original and natural tools that are part of existence, hidden tools (hidden because we don't know, because we weren't taught how to use) in our consciousness. Silence is essential to get out of automatism.
