Regarding Hitbox, best way to think about the jump button being at the bottom is like a keyboard, if you've played any pc fps games jump is on space.

Xbox series controllers have one VERY BAD problem. Buttons are mechanical, so when you press 236 very fast it often skips 3 and you drop 236 special with only 26. It's only good for MK...

As a Series S user, I can to a certain extent deny that information. The D-pad membrane is clicky but it is not impossible to do 236, it is just a matter of adapting

@@ChrisStriker Yes, it's not impossible, but if you press if it very fast it skips diagonal input very often. And it's hard to say it's membrane, it's using сonductive metal patch, but the point is, the response is too fast and it can be a problem with some fast 236 inputs

I just got mine this week. What do you think of the dpad?

I use the t4 kaleid from Gamesir. Its super cheap and outside of the annoying initial setup (had to look a up a guide) I haven't had any issues with it. It works on switch and pc. It isn't specifically made for fighting games but I like it.

I've been using the Vader 3 Pro, it boasts the same low input delay as the dual sense, but has a clicky version of the series X dpad that is seriously the best I've ever used, the face buttons are mechanical and clicky as well. I only wish it had 6 face buttons.

Problem with XBSX Controller, bumper plastic is a little cheap, i have replaced it twice now, but i do snap the right bumper something fierce. other than that the DP is great.

At last, someone who really understands Street Fighter 5-6 players, who play heavy hours. I tried tons of gamepads (can't use joystick now due to noise at home), played 6 years of SFV and now "a little" SF6 and I totally agree with you that floating D-pads are the key. In fact, for me and my thumb (I use the d-pad with a special spot of my thumb), so far the madcatz SFxT PS3 D-pad was the best but these faulty pads simply break fast. I tried the razer one and I couldn't perform at all in rank, as a Dhalsim user. The HORI fighting commander, the older one was just ok, but the d-pad broke as well (can't crouch properly now). I did try one chinese made one from taobao, floating d-pad, but the d-pad, which was connected by a tiny piece of plastic broke within 1-2 months (I ranked heavily in SF6). The madcatz SFV pad was not good at all. I will try the 8 bit bro next. Hopefully and finally, a cheap and durable solution for ranking and competitions. I wonder if the Fighting Commander OCTA for Tekken 8 will have the same problems as the previous Fighting Commander OCTA... I'm watching now 15:00 and that's the best controller ever with the best d-pad but the d-pad broke quickly (it's the one I mentioned above)! Maybe I was just unlucky? Is it possible to replace the d-pad?

I just got Hori fighting commander OCTA for Tekken 8 and it has the same exact issue as the previous edition. The diagonal simply refuses to input reliably

You got some interesting opinions. I'm a Razer Raion user and I love it. I can see why people dont like it, but its really that they dont know how to use the d-pad. Circular motions have to be done by circling the outter edge, which is easy

I've been using the betop thorn on and off for 3 yrs, it's goated and cheap af as you said. Only issue is if u want to bring it to locals you'll have to get a converter (assuming your locals are on ps4 not PC).

I need those grip straps on that 8 bit, have that same problem for stock ps5 sliding off and dropping optimals

There's a few hitboxes with ps5 compatibility like the razer kitsune and victrix one. Also custom ones with GP2040-CE firmware.

Interesting list. I actually found my xbox series S contoller missed a lot of diagonal down inputs and the hori octa d-pad worked amazingly for me. The 8-bit do M30 worked great as well, but over time the d-pad and buttons stick. It just goes to show how inconsistent some of these manufacturers are. Hori Octa is my go-to controller, but other people may have bad luck with it.

I was actually interested in getting that controller too, but I'm still a little on the fence. I need something to help me with dp motions on the left side of the dpad and was hoping that this controller would make things a bit easier with its app.

Could you do a review for the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra next? They sent one out to a fighting game KZreadr and she hardly reviewed it at all the way you would.

you should review the funlab firefly, its pretty cheap and good, if you put something into the dpad to raise it the diagonals are pretty good, not so much if you dont do it tho.

With the razer raion, it’s super easy to buy an old used one for cheap, and just put the pivot in yourself. That’s if you don’t buy a newer one that already has one inside.

I love the PowerA Fusion it's actually one of the pads I want to use on PS5 lol

The hybrid dpad design is top tier on Xbox Series X controller

I love the razer raion, bought it forr 25 euros refurbished and it is the version without the solid pivot. I prefer it´s dpad over the series x and fighting commander 4 though the controller overall doesn´t feel as comfortable as the xbox one because the buttons face buttons are low and I don´t lack the weight distribution due to the lack of vibration motor but that is something I´ll fix myself

Am curious to see how you'd rate the ps1 dpad if they made a version for ps5

If I was ever designing a controller, I'd get this guy to review it before I release it out to the world.

I'll forever praise the dualshock 3 for fighting games... Been playing fighting games for as long as I can remember since the ps1 days... dualshock 3 just feels like home to me

12:00 6 face button fight pads like that are supposed to played with your whole right hand over the buttons not just your thumb. Kinda like a fight stick.

I used one back in the day before I switched to hitbox, and I preferred using it with my thumb, it's a controller I should not need to claw it, if I need to do that I'd just use my arcade stick or hitbox.

@@OP-er3fg it’s not a claw grip per say, it’s meant to have your whole right hand over the face buttons. This makes the right side of the controller more like a fight stick. There’s some advantages to a 6 face button config, but I think everyone sticks to normal pads because they’re more familiar, and more comfortable. ( additionally there’s some socd tricks you need the left stick to do, which most fight pads don’t have)

@@dandycube yeah but if I'm using a controller, I want to hold it like a controller while in relative comfort on my couch, I'm not about to sit upright and do that odd hybrid grip, I'd just use my stick at that point.

I damn near coulda made the same video with how many controllers I've purchased over the last 8 months for SF 6. For SF 6? The actual best D-pad and controller so far I've used is the PowerA Fusion Fightpad tbh. Then I'd actually rank Retro-Bit Saturn series controllers at 2nd. Sometimes I get the up input when I do qcf/qcb. After that the M30 bluetooth, because I don't get the up input for QCF. On the M30 2.4 ghz version....it's almost unusable due to the errant up input for qcf/qcb. In third place, is the Hori fighting commander for switch, with the brook. But as of writing this, the switch fighting commander doesn't work with the Brook FGC anymore. So actually? in third place there's a tie between the 8bitdo M30 Xbox edition and the Victrix. Victrix is actually VERY cheap for the price and wears down, but it's still decent. And the newest M30 Xbox edition has the up for qcf/qcb issue, I mentioned before, but it's not terrible. So yeah man. I've purchased much more. But in short? Fusion Fightpad is tops for me, Then the retro-bit saturn series, then the 8Bitdo Xbox edition.

I play on analog and xbone/series controller has a crazy amount of snapback (releasing right gives you a left input) making it unusable for me

Why you Put the dualsense edge above the the dualshock4

Mh, I have a purple PS5 Controller and my d-pad for sure wiggles not that much, maybe they made some improvments with later versions? But if you are willing to do the D-Pad pivot mod and want a six buttion controller I recommend the Raion you can get it often fairly cheap and while I think the controller is a bit too wide, the D-Pad with the mod is just amazing. But I agree they really should just do a Raion 2 with a ps5 mode, it seems like a No-Brainer they really wouldn't have to revise that much and there isn't really any current dedicated Fightpad except for the Hori Octa.

how about the victrix gambit controller, i do not see it on the list, they say it's a very fast controller

I have to disagree on the Dualsense Edge. I just picked mine up this week for SF6 mainly. While it's an improvement on the original, the issue with the dpad still remains. If you go into practice mode and turn on the input reader, if you wiggle any of the directions for example the down button, you will still consistently get db and df. It would have been nice if they just separated the buttons entirely

Have you tried the Gamesir G7 or T4 Kaleid controllers for fighting games? I heard their dpads are quite suitable for them.

I think the colored versions of the dualsense controllers have the same dpad as the dualsense edge. I recently got the purple dualsense and the dpad feels so much better compared to the original white one. However, I did notice that the dpad needs to be broken in a little.

So much this! I’m quite sure they fixed the dpad on all newer revisions of the controller, so getting a newer color is the same as getting an edge for fighting games. The trigger springs (some failed early on) have been fixed as well.

What do you think of the Switch Pro Controller? Is it good for fighting games? And how would it rank against the other controllers?

dualshock 3? Sixaxis? for me, is the best d-pad cuz is small, I can do everything faster with the tip of my thumb, ds4 controller is pretty decent controller overall, if you can use the tip of your finger you are safe

you watched the video so everything should be clear i agree with frame counting, I use xbox series x controller with battle beaver upgrade to triggers and back two buttons for L3 R3, I also played on many controllers but I always ended up returning to the academy stick, xsx is the first controller I use for fighting games since the release of the controller, all the rest of the controllers didn't last two weeks because something about them didn't suit me, and I've collected about 40 pads since the premiere of SF4, it's definitely the best among the pads, I play on an arcade stick/hitbox and a pad, depending on the character I change it,example - I feel comfortable playing on an arcade stick, e.g. dhalsim in sf6, aki with hitbox, in Tekken 8 on a pad I feel comfortable playing characters that have 1+4 or other simultaneous moves, for easier characters I use the hitbox the pad will always be the most comfortable thing, I always use it when I'm testing a new character or learning moves and frame data during training or other lab thing

As a Tekken Player the Hitbox / Razer Raion / Fighting Commander / Ps4 Controllers are by far the best (for me). Also the Pivot problem for the Raion can be fixed easily with 2$ spend on a plastic pivot. For standart controllers the Raion is by FAR the most accurate and best feeling one for sure!. For movement the Hitbox is not so great in Tekken because of stiff and not so flowy movement but I mean you can still work with it. But for 2D Please atleast try out hitbox if you have a chance. its just that good!. Thanks for the Video, really enjoyed it:)

The Raion works great! I think people are used to spinning the center of the controller, but Raion is about pressing the actual buttons of the d-pad, not twisting the d-pad like a joystick.

can't argue with the price, but the betop really blows ass for anything bigger than a quarter circle. izuna drop went from easy every time to completely impossible because I'm getting 4136 most of the time somehow, let alone the 360s. same with taki's unblockable in SCII and baiken's 236236S and tiger knee yozansen in acpr

I also love using the xbox controllers. The problem is the longevity of the metal switches. Not sure if it's all good now. But the xbox one controllers would break and do double inputs.

My Dualsense D-pad does not wiggle that much, i would say tiny bit less than ds4, however its way stiffer. Its usable on Tekken 8, ds4 better tho.

would love to see you review more leverless controllers as they become more accessible! Like the haute42

i would be a hitbox player if giant swing wasn’t so difficult to hit on it. as a King main, i couldn’t play it cuz of giant swing misinput 😢

I have a question: when you say that a controller is good for 2D or 3D fighters, what's the difference? Don't 3D fighters just draw in 3D but the movement is still in a plane?

3D fighters typically don't use motion inputs often and rely heavily on accurate cardinal directions.

I just used and returned this thing. Cheap feeling construction and 8 MS of input lag. It's not worth it. The DPAD also feels mushy, not at all like the Pro 2's.

I really wish 8bitdo would make a good fight pad. Just make the M30 and larger and make the buttons all the same.

I am a dpad guy, ps4 controller seems to be my most comfortable for it in most games especially fighting, xbox controller is my go to for racing

imo God Tier for fighting gamepads are the MadCatz SFxT FightPad SD > MadCatz SF4 FightPad i have a DualSense Edge and a Custom Battle Beaver DS4 specially made for fighting game, but those old controllers still outclass the new ones from both performance and execution i also have tried out the HORI Fighting Commander 3, 4, and Octa, imo FC4 is the best out of the bunch HORI also just came out with a new FC Octa PC (Tekken 8 SE) with upgraded parts, cant wait to test it out

probably making pad controllers is more expensive than hitbox/arcade sticks and the other reason, pad players just play on what they have, so mostly playstation controllers from their own console, if hitbox/arcade sticks are niche market, fighting pad controllers are the niche market within the niche market

Its worth mentioning that the Pro 2's face buttons are dogshit. It has a great layout, ergonomics and DPAD but after a few weeks of using it the buttons will just start feeling bad to press.
