    In fact,he DID got tiered in the franchise,both games & books,in which in both games & books,a while after the MCI,he designed the funtime animatronics to do the work for him under their kid-friendly faces. He himself lost interest as well in luring kids to their death by setting traps & gaining their trust,in the books he literally kidnapped his last victim (of the MCI) to his death,as well as in the game's where he kidnapped Cassidy to her death,& murdered Charlie at the moment without luring. Yup he in fact did get tired of acting kid-firendly lol.

    The way they "move" - that twitching, jerking, limp attempt at locomotion and articulation... it perfectly evokes what it must be like for a ghost in a machine. They _want_ to move. But it's hard. It's so hard. A weak listing spasm that accomplishes nothing. Not enough force. A sudden, mechanical jerk. Too much force. And the slow, grinding movements... the focus. For brief moments, they can hold enough attention and focus to what they're doing to make very small movements smooth and controlled. But none of it looks alive, no matter how much they want to be such.

    Only thing is that I think these are some of the few that aren't possessed. In the book, the visit to the first game's location does it right - each has their own personality, but also is uniquely unnatural and at times doesn't do anything in a natural way. Foxy particularly is described to move each part and joint individually, but can be 'lithe and agile' when he wants, and even goes and powers down sometimes.

    I'm pretty sure these are some of the few that don't have souls, but they are also Afton's own work. Though, they do have the attribute that in the first book Foxy had - it almost sometimes seems like each piece moves independently, rather than in one smooth movement - with Foxy having later in that book been described as lithe and agile, it seems that might be how the systems actually worked.

    In a way the sound discs basically adding the much needed detail to these animatronics is Brilliant. Nothing is going to look as good or compare to your own imagination and the concept of making a robot look life like, while ideal is also pretty impossible. So these twisted ones requiring your own brain to give them life is a deep metaphor for how fantasies cannot stack up against the bleakness of the reality. Freddy's Pizza even uses the catch phrase "A place where fun and fantasy comes to life." No kidding, lol.

    I love the animation work here alongside the modeling. They capture a perfect sense of uncanniness that a lot of the mainline animatronics don't, and part of it is down to the fact that they have a distressing visual redundancy; They look like soulless facsimiles of things that are already soulless facsimiles. They look like and are described as if they're what happens when you take Freddy Fazbear's gang and strip away anything meant to be cute or nice, because they're designed around using an artificially-generated hallucination to make them seem more appealing. And without it, they're just these pale, hollow things that gawk mindlessly at things as they try to discern if it's a target or not.

    I personally interpreted it just now that the "thick plastic material" is like sparse but large chunks covering the creature, and they would rest on top of the "gelaninous plastic" like a soft layer below patches of the once fully encased hard plastic. I would also guess the bent joints and crushed skull half were meant to be more extreme.

    The description of the animatronics really made my skin crawl. Seeing the models is already pretty unsettling, but then being able to imagine all the other sensory details adds so much more These designs are also so much more horrific. Especially in the face. No eyelids and a dislocated jaw creating a crude and painful looking smile. Like they don’t want to smile, but they have no other choice. The human-like teeth on Freddy and Bonnie reflect your own, but somethings so… wrong about. There’s too many. Too far spaced and too equal in size.

    It's been a while since I've seen animatronics, or any monstrous creature for that matter, that legitimately gave me chills. The canonical twisted animatronics can't even hold a candle to how uncanny and creepy these are. Something about the several rows of teeth, melting flesh(?), malignant boils, fused parts, and whatnot of the canon designs is just so... stale. It's overdone. This, however, is absolutely incredible in that it can instill so much more fear and dread in a viewer with so many fewer assets, being a breath of fresh air that the franchise needs. And of course, don't get me wrong, I love the way that animatronics are designed canonically is cool and all, it's just not creepy anymore. I noticed it when watching the trailer for the upcoming Security Breach; While yes, the game looks awesome, few things about it thus far have stricken me as 'creepy', and even the things that did pale in comparison to the primal unrest that these models cause in both myself, and as I'm sure many others who have been in the fandom for a long time. In sum, this uncanny feeling is what's missing in many of the game designs, and I genuinely would love to see developers take a leaf out of this creator's book for perhaps scarier-looking bots in the future. Phenomenal job, I can't reiterate that enough.

  • @TheNickofTime

    @TheNickofTime

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thank you! The uncanny look was 100% my priority when making these, because it’s something that’s really hammered home in the book. I didn’t include any of those lines here, because they’re not proper detail descriptions, but there are several points where it talks about that visceral gut feeling of wrongness that one gets from looking at them. I tried my best to replicate that. And while I’m not the biggest fan of the direction Security Breach is taking, I do have to disagree that none of it is creepy. Some of the designs are fantastically uncomfortable. Glitchtrap and Vanny are the two most unsettling designs in FNaF for me, by far. Leagues above anything in the original series. And the Moondrop creature also really gets to me for some reason, I don’t know why. On the other hand though, I can’t stand the redesigns for Freddy and the gang, those just look ridiculous. It’s kind of a mixed bag.

  • @russieraholic

    @russieraholic

    @@TheNickofTime You do make an excellent point, I have to agree that Sun/Moondrop does have quite the uncanny look to it. I personally think that's because it, like both The Puppet and Ennard, and Music Man for that matter, looks more human-esque than the animatronics that were/are based on animals. The same runs for Glitchtrap and Vanny- although that's because they're people in suits. But yes, their motions are all too fluid compared to the usual, more mechanical movements in the 'main line' of animatronics. And that's what makes them quite creepy. it feels so out-of-place, in a perfect, fear-inducing way.

  • @CAPTAiNC

    @CAPTAiNC

    To be honest, FNAF SB is terrible. Most mechanics are janky, you can call Freddy when he's not able to reach you scene wise and the story progression is badly done. Textures aren't that great either, they're awfully low quality on some surfaces. The giant facility was a bad idea as well, you can tell that by the amount of STAFF guards they place, in order to fill up the gaps. It's also never explained why Freddy is friendly towards Gregory and what gregory actually is. Sorry about my bad grammar, but the game overall feels unfinished and stale. A missed opportunity .

    Honestly, the animatronic designs like Nightmare, Music Man, the Withered animatronics, and especially Golden Freddy capture the uncanny feeling perfectly. If this series had more designs like those, then I think these games could start being legitimately scary again. I like this series, but nearly a decade of exposure has made things really stale. The only animatronic that still scared me, even when Sister Location was released, was FNAF 1 Golden Freddy, mainly due to how uniquely terrifying it still was to me at the time.

Its not about the characters or the personalities of the animatronics but the fact that the creator of the animatronics in the lore is a mechanical genius who not only had the ability to create a hidden trap within friendly looking machines, but straight up made menacing monsters that had no alternative motives behind the mask. The stark difference between a monster that hides its intentions and a monster that embodies it is crazy.

    Personally, i think you nailed it amazingly. Freddy, Bonnie, Foxy and Wolf looked sick, and just by imaging what they would look like while having the illusion disk active in them. I already got the creeps sent down my back. I just kinda wished there was a twisted Chica too since she is technically cannon in way, although she doesn't show up in the books, there's merch and art of her by the same person who drew the twisted ones. OVER ALL ! great video

    This is great, is stays remarkably faithful to the books, removing the sharp teeth and claws, while still making wildly unsettling, unnatural and terrifying animatronics, these models perfectly capture the essence of the twisted animatronics, this is great, keep up the good work!

    This is really awesome. The only thing I would say is that the chest piece might have been a bit different. These are basically supposed to be the Funtime animatronics from sister location. In that same vein though, they never fully described what they look like in the books (horror book tactics) so it's up to one's own interpretation.

    I never thought of it as the Funtime set. In my eyes, the complex beneath the Emily household is where FNaF 2 would've taken place, or a replica of it, more accurately, given it's full of all sorts of stuff, and it never went into use beyond being Henry's hideaway for a while and a place to leave the animatronics he didn't want getting back out. The next book in the series, The Fourth Closet, has the Funtime animatronics in it - Circus Baby, possessed by Elizabeth Afton and all; Funtime (officially 'Blacktime', which is a work-of-William-Afton name if I ever heard it, he's quite uncreative there) Freddy, now with two hands and the same penchant for playing with his food; and Funtime Foxy, who proceeds to unfold into a hundred limbed spider because reasons I guess. So it always seemed these would be another set never really _seen_ in the games, but they do share a lot of similar designs to the games' Funtimes, what with the strange appearance, underground bunker storage (though not by their creator's intent this time), and intent to lure, capture, and harvest. A predecessor set, rather than the actual set.
