Let's Re-think Mangle's Endoskeleton - Model Showcase (Five Nights at Freddy's)

Фильм және анимация

Here we analyze, break down, and re-make the endoskeleton for Mangle from Five Nights at Freddy's, trying to tidy up the model without going so far as to stray from the core design.
This is the model I made for my Five Nights fan-animation 'A Distant Voice': • A Distant Voice (Five ...
A few extra tidbits about the model that aren't covered in the video:
The addition of the tail and the parrot on Foxy's shoulder are not especially canon, particularly not the parrot. I included them as useful places to justify having extra limbs attached, and I had the freedom to take these kinds of liberties since we never quite see pristine Mangle in the game. We have a solid idea of what the design looks like, but it's always at least one step removed from canon, such as the stylized version in FNaF World or as part of the series's line of merchandise.
One odd little clash between Mangle's before and after states is the pirate hook: In depictions of Toy Foxy, the traditional hook is there, including in a pre-release teaser from before FNaF2 released. But the actual model for mangle has two hands instead. Also strange is that Mangle's model has the spherical bunny tail from Toy Bonnie instead of the fox tail seen here. I made these changes to my version to fix what I can only assume is just some minor continuity errors and/or shortcuts taken when making the original model. FNaF2 was made in an incredible rush to strike while the iron was hot after all, so oddities like that are to be expected.

There's probably enough power in its motors and stuff that it can support its own weight just fine. Y'know, otherwise how could any of the animatronics stay standing upright without external help?

I don’t bring it up in this video, since this is mostly just about the visual design and not behavior. But in my FNaF2 animation I made this model for, I did make sure to be a little more restrained with Mangle defying gravity compared to the game. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nXt1u6WCXa7Qebg.htmlsi=lzInmJrFq8hUgww2

In FNAF AR, before Mangle was added to the game there was an Email that released which actually addressed this. The Enginners that made the Replica Mangles were unable to recreate the Originals ability to crawl on walls, despite recreating the mechanics perfectly. This pretty much Confirms that the Original Mangles ability to walk on walls was entirely paranormal

I might be crazy here, but is the sound just a little bit out of sync, like a fraction of a second ahead of the visuals? I'm always paranoid about that, because my previous editing software always put the sound a few frames out of sync, which I had to manually compensate for when rendering. I genuinely can't tell if I'm tricking myself into seeing it here or not, especially because I can only notice it when watching the video on certain devices. It would be a real shame if it is out of sync, because I spent so, so much time on the sound effects, but it's not a big enough deal to warrant taking the video down and re-uploading it.

This is almost exactly what I think about when I ponder realistic Mangle endo. The hips work a little differently in my iteration but this version is much more accurate to the in game pelvis design. The hip to leg joints being mounted downward first fits with the almost flat pelvic shell. Though the leg splay hinge would likely be flimsy in reality. This has given me quite a bit to think about. Well done as usual.

I have always been fascinated by mangle's design, thought it would be a fun thing to play around with, and to see you try to make sense of it just got me beaming with joy. She's wonderful- perfect, even. And I can't help but think that the design style you chose for her limbs and joints really makes them seem appealing to toddlers disassembling them, they look like they could disconnect and rejoin easily, but that's just me. Small notice but I like the singular limb beside the hook having half the joint plating, really sends home that incomplete, dishevelled look of hers. Incredible!!

Absolutely love the practical (as possible) approach to these. The internal details are often overlooked, so it's refreshing to have some real weight behind what makes the designs tick. Whether or not the premise itself makes sense, having the actual foundation built on something that feels real goes a long way in selling a concept.

Also, after seeing your Funtime Freddy model, and some of things you had to say, the issue of how far removed they are from any functional sense was something I was tackling for awhile. However, I think I have a good solution. It's being used in some pretty advanced prosthetics currently, but artificial muscles fit the style nicely. They're not quite the solid metal cables of the original, but they more cleanly fit the flex that they implied.

Mangle is the Foxy counterpart of the Toy animatronic series, but Funtime Foxy in Sister Location has the same white/pink color scheme, so they’re easy to mix up. An easy way to tell the difference is that the Funtime animatronics have seam lines in their faces and limbs. As for Mangle’s gender, that was what was likely just an inconsistency in FNaF2, which was then made into a running joke in response to fans getting into massively overblown fight trying to pin a defined gender on Mangle using obviously contradictory information. To this day, these white/pink Foxy variants use alternating pronouns, much to the delight of many LGBT+ fans.

I love the idea of creating endos for characters that have none in FNaF. Keep up the good work!

This is very impressive. As someone who's interested in robotics and how terrifyingly real we can make them this is something i could see myself doing in the near future, hopefully creating a fully functional spider robot

0:33 Dude, seeing the fully rendered 3D toy animatronics just for the view to slide to a JPEG of Mangle is so accurate. Once you figure out that most of the time she is just a 2D image slapped onto the room renders in Fnaf 2, it’s so surreal to compare him to the actual 3D renders.

This looks amazing it would he cool if you showed how sun and moon switched or how glamrock freddy stomach works realistically or your interpretation of scrap baby

Sun and Moon I don't have much to comment on, they switch in a way that's pretty cartoony without much room to work in any realism. Freddy has the opposite problem, with a skeleton more mechanically feasible than anything in the series before him, so I wouldn't have much to improve. Scrap Baby, on the other hand, I do intend to get around to someday.
