Related movie trivia: In "Gone with the Wind" Scarlett O'Hara had green eyes, the actress playing her, Vivian Leigh had blue eyes. To make her eyes appear green, they attached a strong yellow light to the camera for her closeups. The yellow affected how her blue eyes appeared and the lighting trick worked, she seemed to have green eyes. (This was in the 1930s so before colored contacts.)

So when I was little I named my doll Vivian Leigh. My mother said “Oh, I didn’t know you were a Gone with the Wind fan?” I said “I’m not, I named her after the woman on Pretty Woman and gave her my middle name because I thought they went nicely together” My poor mother thought I was into the classics at 8, instead I was vain and I named my doll after myself and a sex worker😂

This is actually light hazel. My ex has that color.

My eye doctor lit up when she saw my eyes. She works in a big clinic and sees many people a day. She told me she goes maybe three weeks at a time before she sees someone with green eyes, and she said mine are a beautiful green. It made my day. 😊

My husband and I are both blue eyed, yet only our daughter has blue eyes. Oldest son has pure green eyes and my middle child (male also) has Blue-Green eyes, literally dark turquoise, and they are gorgeous!! they were blue for most of his life, and at 31 now he's got these amazing peepers!! @@scandisnowgirl3696

I'm never not gonna be jealous of white people for having the most beautiful eye colours. I wish other ethnicities had them too. Edit: I know other ethnicities have different eye colours. Aishwarya Rai is from my country. Tyra Banks is one of the most beautiful women. But it's rare. Commonplace people rarely have different eye colours here. Among the white race, it's way more common.

And my eye doctor actually asked me if I was wearing contacts😅(heard that a few times in my life) and then she said I have a beautiful and unusual eye color💚My eyes are light green (almost golden green i certain bright lights) with a dark green ring around the iris. Before I didn’t like my eyes. I’ve always wanted another darker eye color and love brown eyes especially on guys 😍 but now I’m happy that they’re different. When I was a kid I had blue eyes a few years, then they turned blue/green and then light green. My daughter was born with blue eyes, then they got blue/grey and now the blue is gone and she has light grey/green eyes🤍A little weird but maybe a normal process🤔We’re from Norway and here blue definitely is the most common eye color. People here also got green eyes, grey, hazel, brown and a mix of colors

Lol - same. Even at the DMV, they couldn't tell me my eye color. We went with GR, which could be interpreted as gray OR green.

I remember sitting in a big eye related conference and a survey question went out to the congregation asking,”If you could change your eye color to any color you want, which color would you choose?” 70% of the congregation chose green. Good info! I go to the eye doctors and they can't believe my eyes are real, they ask if they could take photos. My dad has almost violet eyes and my mom has light blue eyes, so i have violet dark blue circle on the outside and inside very light blue. I've gotten comments my whole life, though it feels good the bright sun hurts my eyes so much.

@@bonnie6231 I have prescription sunglasses with UV coating (and any other type of coating they offer) and wear them whenever I go outside during the day. Often a hat too. It's not terribly inconveniencing for me, but I did get odd looks in England and Ireland where the habit of wearing sunglasses can come off as a bit pretentious. Then again, most of the shop people could tell I was from California right away!

You are absolutely right. Green eyes are not absolutely green. It occurs because of lack of melanin. The yellow and the brown pigments blend together to make the eyes look green. Similar concept occurs in chromatography of colors. The same concept that occurs in physics (combination of primary colors and principal colors). By the way This is what led to the development of color Television. Thanks for this documentary. It is a natural phenomenon that occurs in human beings. I love that. I wish you all the best of luck.

I am a redhead and as a child i had blue eyes. Later in my 20’s the yellow/beige in my eyes started becoming stronger and after my first child it kind of took over. And the blue never came back. I read hormones especially when pregnant can change the eye color like this. Now my eyes are a light beigey/ green with little bits of blue hidden away.

My eyes have always been blue, my hair was red with a little brown in the dark. During my first pregnancy my skin got a lot darker, I went from a porcelain white to a medium olive skin tone and my hair turned to such a dark idk brown almost black it got so dark. I talked to my doctor at the time about it and she said it was the hormones. My skin almost went back to normal, it's light but not as light and more of a pronounced yellow undertone than what I could see before. My hair never fully went back to the pretty red now its a dark reddish brown. It's pretty but no where near as pretty or as curly as it used to be.

I have hazel eyes. When I wear my Army greens, my eyes turn sky blue. I noticed them in my pictures. Depending on what color I wear depends on what my eye color will be. I have really dark hair and an olive complexion. In junior high, I was accused of wearing colored contacts. But, I wore glasses back then. My parents couldn't afford contacts and glasses.

Can you talk about gray eyes? I have gray eyes but its so uncommon to see them be acknowledged as an actual color that someone could have, as they are always seen as just having blue eyes.

They are just a variation of blue eyes. IIRC, they look gray because of a higher amount of collagen in the stroma. The scattering of light that is responsible for colour perception is changed by the collagen, making us see them as gray rather than blue. More collagen = more gray, less blue. The reality is that there's only 1 actual "colour" of eyes - brown. The amount of melanin present determines whether we perceive the eye colour as brown/'black', hazel, green, blue, gray, or the complete lack as pink/red. The amount of collagen also changes the various shades of lighter eyes.

I have dark eyes and dark hair. When I was a kid I wanted to have green eyes like our neighbour’s beautiful daughter. She was 3 and I was 5. So I asked my mom for green eyes. She told me the only way to get green eyes is to eat green vegetables. And I believed her, eating green vegetables became my only goal in life. I became a vegetarian of course and adopted a very healthy eating habit. Years passed by, I’m 51 and I still have dark eyes. But the true magic is that I look like I’m in my mid 30s. The green vegetables slowed down the aging process significantly. Thanks Mom ❤️ I love you very much even though you tricked me 😁😁😁 Edit: thank you everyone for all your likes and positive feedback. I highly recommend this book called “Eat to live” by Joel Fuhrman. And I also highly recommend a vegetable steamer. Hope you enjoy your veggies 😊☮️❤️

I was vegetarian for part of my adulthood but remain a light meat eater. Rarely, eating meat. I am 64 and people are always astonished when I tell them. Everyone says I look to be in my early 50s or late 40s. Makes me so happy!

As someone that has green eyes let me say that I absoutley love dark eyes. As a woman I get jealous of the looks a darker eyed woman can pull off that I never can. And if a man with dark eyes looks into mine....🔥

I have blue-green eyes. One of my four kids got the green eye gene, but his didn't turn until he was four years old. I didn't even know that was something that could happen until I saw it myself. Before that he had intensely blue eyes. He's 15 now and has the coolest eyes. They're like bright green with navy blue around the edges.

My eyes are a green hazel color and do turn different colors depending on the day! If I’m exposed to more sunlight they tend to be more green but during the winter they are a more hazel color.

I have hazel eyes which I consider a fashion accessory because they change color depending on what color shirt or blouse you are wearing on top, above your waist. Indo-European roots and mixed melanated backgrounds cause green eyes. Like if you’re Norwegian and part Italian, or part Jewish-you most likely have green eyes. Or if there’s some African background in your genetics you will definitely have green eyes.

My grandfather, one of his daughter's (my aunt) and I all have Olive Green eyes. I love my shade of green. Every one else in my family on both sides have blue eyes. Mine also change color when I wear lavender and aqua. Green eyes rock!

Key word "appear" to change color. So while all color looks different depending on how much light hits it, the molecular content does not change (albeit over years of health changes and aging and melanin decrease such as in hair).

@kxxd children are born with light eyes that usually turn darker. But once it reaches a color it becomes baseline (unless health changes significantly then texture changes).

I was born with my Dads green hazel eyes. A touch of yellow, but overall very green. My granddaughter is the only one that inherited the same color. At 7 they're a solid, very green, just lovely. At 63, my eye doctor just confirmed that mine have changed a great deal and it's normal with age . I didn't know this, and now understand why many people have told me I have blue eyes. I have less melanin and the light reflects a very light ocean blue/green. My fathers went from green/hazel to grey/blue, very light . My change was so gradual, I didnt notice it, until I saw the deep green of my granddaughter. Learn something new everyday.

A couple of years ago, my sister was visiting after a long time of not seeing. She assumed I was wearing blue contact lens ... my former green leaning hazel eyes have been changing as I aged. I never noticed.

My mom and her twin both have had green eyes up until their late 50s to 60s. Now they're a lovely light blue color, like y'all described above! I always wondered if that was a common thing that happened as people age. And now I wonder if that will happen to me too later in life since I have green eyes as well! I kind of hope it does, because their eyes are so beautiful 💕

My eye color is definitely affected by the clothes I wear. They're usually green, but they range from green to blue and everything in between.

​@@swes2934 What do you see in the mirror most often? I see green. Mom most often sees blue, sometimes at the same time that I see green! I asked my husband and he said they're blue-green. I put green on government forms because that's what I see. 🤷‍♀️

@@ediebegonia I usually only look at my eyes closely in my bathroom where they are a blue/green mix but grayish. When I go outside (overcast, rainy day) they seem to have blue on the outside with green closer to the centre and less of a gray hue. Usually only gets mentioned when someone stares closely into my eyes and can’t figure out the colour.

Your blue eyes are gorgeous, too. I knew someone who had the eye color of emeralds. Very gorgeous.

Yes! I have green eyes, but they have changed many times to a grayish blue. It depends on what the lighting is and what I'm wearing. I had no idea about the melanin part though. Thanks for sharing! :)

I have hazel eyes with very very slight heterochromia, and they are AWESOME They can look green, brown, even yellow in direct sunlight!

That seems to explain why some people say I have green, grey, or blue and are very insistant on their perceived colour. My father has green, and the blues in my family are very blue, so I was told they're green. The governments say green, so maybe florescent lights make green show more strongly.

If the outside light source is more yellow in tone, blue eyes are more tinged with green.

When I wore a light green blouse my dark green eyes seemed to lighten to match the blouse. That was in an office setting so the lights did help.

I think I have green eyes and both of my parents have green eyes. But so many people just assume I have blue eyes. They are definitely a lighter green/gold so I can see how people might assume they are blue under certain lights or when I am wearing blue, but when I wear green they definitely pop. And when people say “you have the most beautiful blue eyes” and I say “look again” they scream “oh my god, they’re green! I swear they were just blue! How did you change their color?!” It’s weird, but they really are green, not magic.

My Dad has 1 green eye and 1 blue eye. They change in the depth of the two colors. It’s so cool! I have his blue eyes kicked up a notch! My Daughter has my blue eyes just kicked up a notch! Her daughter has her incredible big blue eyes but lord have mercy kicked up even more so but…. With little flecks of green in them like her great Grandpa, my Dads eyes! My Daughter had 5 Eye Surgeries as a child. It was Eye muscle related. She’s wanted to be in Ophthalmology since the age of 2. She’s now a very successful and happy Ophthalmic Tech. 😊 I’m so proud of my Eyeball nerd Daughter lol When she was 4 I signed her up for this “Eye Science” class at this store called “The Children’s Learning Garden” An Eye Doc came in for the 4 hour class. They watched her disect a cows eye lol ❤😂 the boys were in the back of the room hiding or under desks lol my daughter and this other little girl also just 4 yrs old couldn’t get close enough 😂 They were fascinated! It was hilarious!

Take note, eye color-changing folk. It is lighting that changes the hue, NOT your emotions! 👍 Edit: Telling me about how your eyes AcTuAlLy change color on a video that explains the science behind WHY our eyes change color (lighting, color of clothing we wear, etc) just tells me you might not believe in science, are narcissistic, or mentally unwell. You can be special WITHOUT magic eyes.

​@@Juiceboxgurl16 that's still entirely lightning, along with the contrast of the red sclera. it is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOUR EYES TO CHANGE COLOUR FROM EMOTION.

Pupil dilation and constriction is affected by emotion in addition to the degree of light (and some drugs). How much space the pupil takes up can in turn affect perception of eye color. So there is a kernel of truth to it-a person’s eye color can appear to change based on their emotion. Seems clear that lighting and presence/absence of drugs are the larger factors though; the effect emotion has on dilation is pretty subtle.

Me three...green eyes, golden interior circle, blue outer circle. The intensity & colour changes in correlation to my mood, but I never witnessed it myself...😭

I have blue eyes and my husband has brown eyes. So our daughter, who looks like a perfect fusion of the two of us, naturally has green eyes! Slightly more yellow pigment in her eyes than me, but not as much as her dad. Our son, on the other hand, has brown eyes, too, but they're lighter brown (more like hazel) than my husband's. Genetics are fascinating!

My mom has blue-grey and my dad had hazel. I have both their colors in my irises (I have a central heterochromia) and a couple orange (!) spots. The brain blends them together and sees my eye color as teal green. I'm the only one in my family that I know of who has green eyes.

I always hear that my green eyes are my prettiest physical trait. You are right about lighting though. In the bright afternoon, yellow sun, they look really green, almost dark green sometimes. But sometimes they almost look blue.

Whenever green eyes being rare comes up I instantly think of Big Trouble too! I have green eyes but I’m Scandinavian so it’s not that uncommon here really. Certainly nothing that would get you kidnapped from the airport lol

I have blue eyes, but the color is ever-changing, depending on the color of my shirt, my makeup, or the lighting. Those factors make them go from blue, to blue-grey, to green.

Thanks for this video! 💚 People call my eyes cat eyes because they are green with a sorta yellowish/orange color in the middle, which changes.

As someone with blue-green eyes, I can confirm that they vary widely, especially with different eye make-up colours. Certain lights will even cause them to appear grey. It's honestly my favourite feature.

Food you eat can also affect your eye colour, I had a partner who had brown eyes that went green if he ate a lot of citrus foods, which I thought was also pretty neat :)

I have green eyes and they always look greener when I’ve been crying. I always just assumed the redness in my eyes from crying accentuated the green or made it appear more green.

I have one green and one blue. Never knew until my child pointed it out. Interesting stuff!

I have mostly green eyes, but i have heterochromia (half of my left eye is brown!) My eyes change colour often in the light. Sometimes people really notice my brown eye, sometimes not. Bright light makes it noticeable, and my eyeshadow colour can make it stand out more too 😊💖🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I feel so special now. Both my kids have green eyes too.

I had blue eyes through fifth grade, then they turned green. Still green decades later. 💙💚

My eyes are hazel - brown/green mix. Some days they look brown, and some days they look green (darker than your video). I wasn't really sure how much other people noticed, but a few months ago my young granddaughter pointed at my eyes and asked, suspiciously, why they were olive green today ;o)

Yea, mine too change colour with lighting, and very light sensitive, so I need sunglasses even on stormy days.

My eyes are light blue with a dark blue ring around the outer edge. My eyes change with my moods, not just light or clothing color (which the latter doesn’t change my color tone that much at all). I’ve been told my whole life by many people that my light blue eyes get dark blue when I’m angry. Wonder what causes that.

I totally believe you .. I was told by random people over decades that my greens turned obviously very noticable from green to neon green, typically when extremely agitated or upset during discussions.

When you're angry your blood pressure goes up, so I imagine the explanation goes around more blood in your eyes.

I have amber eyes with a little more green tint to them around the pupil. In bright light, my pupil shrinks and you can see the green part. In lower light the pupil expands taking up the green part and just leaving the amber. So they don't just look different colors, they are different colors.

I love my green eyes - my maternal grandmother had them too. She used to say that we have cat's eyes, which, as a cat lover, thrilled me!

I have green eyes but I wish I had brown eyes - i like the depth and contrast of darker coloured eyes.

My eyes used to be dark brown. I didn't notice when it changed. I was telling my niece that we had the same color eyes. She told me that we don't because mine are brown and green.

Same here. They changed to Hazel - green/brown- and in my early 20s. Now in my fifties, they fluctuate to include some hue of blue, according to people. I personally have no idea what color they are.

@@jimenat357Same! My family, especially my favorite aunts, used to sing “brown eyed girl” to me and in this large portrait my photographer uncle took of me my eyes are milk chocolate brown. But I was applying mascara at 17ish and I noticed green in my eyes. I showed it to my mom and she was seriously confused how they all said I had brown. I’m 58 now and they’re still hazel. Oddly my mom, younger sister and two brothers have blue. My father and other brother had green. Those aunts, my mom’s sisters had blue gray ( all her siblings did she once told me) and her father had blue. But her mother, my grandmother had brown. I don’t know the eye color of my father’s side because I didn’t think to ask my dad after they divorced and he moved to another state. But I always felt so “odd man out”. All these interesting colors and I had mud eyes.

I love my green eyes, definitely my best feature.

I know about the colour change effect very well, my boyfriend's eyes change colour depending on the light! Most of the time they are dark brows but somethimes they are light orange or green-blueish

My Maternal Grandmother had incredible grey eyes. They literally changed color according to her blouse. We used to hang different colored scarves around her to watch them change. It was fascinating!! 🤗🥰

I was born with dusky blue eyes and I used to wish I had green eyes. They did end up slowly changing to greenish and today at 40 they look more hazel than anything. They can look more or less green depending on what I wear, make up etc.

My eyes are hazel - predominantly green with a amber/brown inner circle/sunburst. But in most lighting they look just brown. In the sun or bright light you can see the green and the detail in them. I love my eyes and I wish they always looked the way they look in the sun - they also get brighter and more green when I cry!
