You crack me the fuck up Avron. I feel the passion in these rants/reviews. I respect the hell out of you for picking a side, sticking with it, and putting a middle finger up to the shit that doesn't make sense. You can all say what you want about Avron, but he deserves nothing but respect because he doesn't pull punches and is brutally honest when he needs to be. He does what he does for all of us, and I deeply appreciate that.

ha ha I’m 6’2 and first board I bought was 2006 Salomon Driver 163 with 47EU (13US) Salomon boots - i bought it used because it was cheap and it was a set with boots for really good price. I normally ride 44 and in most cases 156w - but I was short in money, didn’t know if I actually will even snowboarding in future or I will learn few days and leave it for good. Luckily I really liked snowboarding, I learned on this board how to carve, ride switch and all the other basics, all this in 2 numbers overs-sized boots 😂. Now I ride boards from 151 to 159, and 151 was not a wide version - yeah i know it was a stretch and my weight overpowered it, but I actually liked feeling how short it was, just in softer snow had to be careful with carving, it was my son’s board and occasionally I rode on it just for fun :). Great Top5 combo Avran 👏!

I’m a former stevens employee and still ride there a ton, it’s heartbreaking what Vail has done to that mountain. At first I was pretty stoked on the epic pass because it meant my stevens season pass got me 10 days at Whistler too, but this year less than half the mountain is open! Vail actually did raise wages but they eliminated most of the employee housing which made it possible to live and work at the mountain comfortably. Now I’ve heard most employee housing is in Wenatchee, over 1.5 hours away. It’s totally fucked

Really feeling the housing price increase. Live near snow town in Australia, and prices have gone up 30%+ in 2 years I've been here(currently renting). Season just gone, staff accommodation was getting pretty hard to find. Most owners just want air bnb for the extra cash. What's going to happen when there's no one to run the lifts? Won't get any bookings with closed resorts. Covid had also had a large impact with it. So many people realising they can work from home now, and moving to remote areas. Going to be interesting to see what happens when our lease is up.

I have a bit of a bias when it comes to Vail Resorts. Being a military member, and especially over the past few years , our discount rate on the Epic pass is absolutely insane. It takes 1-2 days of riding to pay our pass off. Really worked out well when I spent 5 years in the NE and could ride VT mountains that Vail bought out, and now being back out west. I come from the time of support local and small, but given my current job, Epic/Vail has been amazing!

@@AngrySnowboarder I just avoid weekends and holidays at all cost. Paying sub 200 for a year pass, and covering numerous resorts outweighs the shit out of waiting in line. Even at smaller resorts out west, you might get lucky to spend $60+ per day. So my 3 days at a Vail owned resort is still paying this off, and having a lot more terrain to ride. Pow days are the only concern for the lines on my days, I know the risk, and fully understand the monopoly that is being taken place, but for the military members scoring access to such a great discount, the time is worth the money.

The only reason I've been able to get away with not having my boards structured at a shop is probably because I've lucked out and selected boards that came with structured bases. I have Capita boards and a couple DCs.... they all have structure. My switch thoughts: you def. CAN ride switch on a non-twin. But for me, I literally ride both ways equal time, 50-50, so I like to have a twin simply to BEST facilitate that. At this point I wouldn't know which of my stances to even call "swich." But of course switch is possible on other boards as you say.

Watching from Australia here. Mt Hotham is my local and we live at the bottom of the hill, 30 minute drive to lift. Vail resorts bought up and no more discounts for locals on season tickets or resort entry. Shitty management means fewer locals find it worthwhile to work on the mountain. Many lift operators were older locals doing it only in return for a season but Vail stopped that.

Right on. The height thing is dumb, I have a 158W (the "correct size for my height").. and two 150s (a $40 ebay K2 ex-rental beater and a Rossignol I bought recently as a very considered purchase after watching your reviews - thank you). What I ride depends on what I where I am, the conditions, what I feel like that day, etc. The quality gear thing is true. I buy good stuff from companies that know the sport, and in addition to performing well, it lasts and lasts. People I know with cheap shit are having a bad time using it, and then replacing it when it falls apart a year later. False economy really. And I also see the creeping change that's pricing employees out. The big conglomerates are really getting their teeth into the mountains - they've figured out that the lift tickets and passes are just whatever the market will bear, for better or worse (mainly worse for ordinary people I guess), but the wage issue needs to be dealt with immediately or the whoie thing is untenable.

Structure on premium boards. He’s right on about Ride, K2 and especially Capita. I’ve owned all of those specifically for this reason. The most drool worthy part of a Black Snowboard of Death is it’s base, seriously. I briefly considered the E Jack knife until I saw the base was not only unstructured, but not even sintered. F that. Inexcusable for a $600+ board.
