First off, I am happy that you are all back on KZread. I missed these reviews and they never fail to get a laugh out of me. Second off, I am more on the side of Jacob when it comes to Zero-One. There are things that I liked (Hell, even loved) about this show, but the problems I had with it hindered my enjoyment and it is literally because of Thouser. Ever since he debuted in the show proper, the show completely fell apart for me with that stupid competition arc and his garbage backstory and just him being the worst kind of human being, but the thing is that I don't have the 'love to hate' kind of vibe with Thouser. I have the 'I seriously want you to go away' vibe with him. I mean it when I say that Thouser ruined the show for me

I hate the argument that Zero One would have been better if it wasn't for covid. Zero One's major problems were already ingrained well before covid. They just weren't utilizing their time wisely.

I liked Zero-One for several reasons. One being that some of the humans were worried that humagears would replace them. It made me picture them yelling “They took our jerbs!” Thouser was funny because of his “1000 percent” catchphrase and because his ability is called “jacking.” Can you imagine a guy jacking everyone he fights? It was funny how Fuwa is the only one who finds Aruto’s jokes funny, even if he tries to hide it. Lastly, as a wannabe comedian myself, I immediately sympathized with Aruto.

Zero-One is awesome. Ex-Aid's writer doesn't miss. (Though the President Tournament Arc admittedly sucked, we can all agree on that) One of the most frustrating things about the President Tournament Arc was how I really wanted this to be where we see Aruto develop as a BUSINESS PRESIDENT. I wanted to see more of that side, and to see how he'd handle Gai manipulating things to buy Hiden Intelligence out. It wasn't until the last Episode of the Arc with Aruto finally taking back all the HumaGear ProgriseKeys & starting his own business that we finally got this, and I wish we got more of that during the Arc.....instead of us just seeing Aruto constantly going through the same cheating & annoying villainy that Gai was doing. I will NEVER forget the scene where Aruto after beating everyone as Ark-One goes back to cry with Azu, and Azu is just there to jab his emotions to remind him of his lost Izu...!!! That scene was just SO SAD, and even though making Aruto as Ark-One was a last-minute script change, I LOVE IT for this type of tension that it brought to the show. And of course.....FUWA IS BEST CHARACTER. THIS SHOW SHOULD'VE BEEN "KAMEN RIDER VULCAN."

Having rewatched Zero-One on Tokushoutsu, it just reminds me that as though as much as I enjoyed the show, I couldn't help but feel that it could have been better. As much as I enjoyed some things about the show, I had issues with other parts of it. It seems that Toei made changes to some of the overall stories after they shut down because of COVID since apparently Aruto was not supposed to be Ark-One. I think Gai should have been Ark-One as it certainly would have been a much better redemption arc as he would have to fight his own creation to save himself. Gai being the most punchable character was intentional, and it may equal the punch ability of Jun from Ryuki and Kusaka from Faiz. My biggest issue with Gai was that him getting beat all of the time by everyone gets tedious after a while. He should have gotten a power-up to make it more interesting. Out of the stuff that Yuya Takahashi has written for Kamen Rider, I still think Ex-Aid is better. I would love to do a "How I Would Improve (not fix) Zero-One." Three things I would do: shorten or get rid of the Ark-Zero storyline. It wasted time. Second, instead of having Gai's position being "robot racism", it should have focused more on how AIs would impact humanity on a social and economic level because AI and automation are predicted to replace or remove a lot of jobs that humans do (for better and worse as some people may not mind because a lot of the jobs being replaced are jobs people hate anyway) and have Gai represent that aspect of it. That would have been great storyline potential for the Jobs arc that dragged. It did touch on it somewhat, but it didn't do that enough. Also, having Jin going against Horobi actually go somewhere of value. The way that played out irritated me to no end because of both the potential of Jin's character arc after he returned and where it could have gone with respect to his relationship with Horobi. Jin should have outgrown Horobi in his character evolution and he just didn't. Oh, and I think Aruto being Ark-One needed more time to develop. It only being four or five episodes made the whole thing feel anti-climatic since Soreo came in and solved everything in less than five minutes. Remove the Ark-Zero nonsense and shorten the Jobs arc to make more room for this and it would have worked better (of course, I would have had Izu die the episode the show returned, but that's just me). However, I will cut this show some slack because of the COVID situation. Despite all of the issues with the show, Metal Cluster Hopper is the best-looking suit ever. Bar none. Oh, and I bought the second Metsubojinrai photo book for a reason, as they all be fine. Zero-One had a really attractive cast.

Really loved this show. Easily my second favorite behind Ex Aid. I like the characters, plot, and forms. This is my favorite looking season. Zero Two is my favorite form in the entire franchise. It just looks so cool, and the symbolism is top tier. And in the movie where they have the black light and it glows is perfect. Not to mention the SHOULDER PADS aren’t shit. They’re not pointy and poke his realxeyez out, but they’re also not circular and make him look like a toy with a ball joint. I know there were a lot of forms, but as you said at least they’re there for a plot reason. Also at least they share progrise keys a lot so you get the feeling that the forms aren’t solely for the purpose of selling toys. This show was clearly COVID-fucked, but in my opinion the ending steered the ship back to land.

Zero One is definitely a top 10 Kamen rider show for me. I can understand all the complaints that were said in the video but even with the second arc I didn’t mind MOST of the things you guys didn’t like. I say most because Thouser exists and I hated him, yeah that was the point but his redemption really was the only thing about this show I thought was terribly done. But everything else about this show I absolutely love with the characters, the plot, the suits, the fights, the villains, this show even has my personal favorite secondary rider ever with Vulcan. Zero one is one of my favorite rider shows, and I’ve enjoyed all the rider shows in Reiwa so far. Yes even Saber, as one of the 5 fans of that show I’m gonna be one of the only positive comments about that show when the review comes, and I’m ready for it.

First off: cool of you guys to add the henshin sequences in the review. Second: I'm on Marcus's side saying that this was a decent show and I'm probably in the minority saying that I don't mind the Gai arc even with its issues. I also agree that covid did screw the show over since there were going to expand on Gai's redemption arc to make it better ( though I am fine with him being not redeem at all/ kill him off).

Okay, there are a few major points I'll comment on since otherwise things have already been addressed: - Gai as a person. Gai was the more extreme end of Yaiba only seeing the Gears as tools (which might've actually been programmed into her with his chip), but more than the gears, he sees #everyone# as something for him to use and throw away when they're no longer of use to him. Yes his reason for being bad (daddy issues) is kind of stupid in terms of trying to give him a tragic backstory and justifying his atrocities, but it does provide a reasonable foundation for his current state if his dad taught him business practices like he uses today, meaning his dad was likely a monster in his own right. From thereon Gai's actions are majorly towards fueling his own ego which is why he seeks to consume everything (ey capitalism), put everyone under his control, and ultimately not grow as a person or Rider because he thinks he's the hottest shit possible which ultimately leads to him doing things like creating Metal Cluster just to try and prove he's better than whatever Ark can make or the creation of Ark period just to prove his stupid point of the whole "AI should just be a controlled tool" bit. I think one of his major problems aside from his """resolution""" is the fact that he just refused to grow and yet still stayed in the game, though that of course was eventually worn down until he ended up in that basement office. It would've been interesting to see just how far his corruption of businesses and even the government such that he could do all the terrible shit he did yet get away with it (Shesta even finds an entire shopping list of his illegal activities and abuse of company assets just before the stupid dog). - Ai-chan. The creation of this thing could very well be related to covid slicing off a fat chunk of final episodes, but this was literally a plot device to help characters wrap up their stories and come to realizations about themselves. This was for Fuwa, Yaiba, and even Gai since the creators knew they had no time to give them resolution otherwise (though that could've been handled in later movies since those seem to be a requirement for Rider nowadays). There definitely could've been worse ways for them to wrap up character plots for Fuwa and Yaiba, but Ai-chan contributes to the horseshit escape Gai gets from his crimes. - The endgame. This show could've so easily ended with the destruction of Ark, but I appreciated more that it made the final conflict centered around the humans/Hiden and Mestuboujinrai since the core disagreement between the two was not gone whatsoever. They continued on the fact that even if Ark was gone as a threat to both humanity and gears, the core issue of where the gears stand in their world was still wholly present (especially after the giant mess Gai made of it). Besides that, like what was mentioned with Horobi, the Ark now being gone gave him an identity crisis since he didn't know how he should achieve rights n such for gears anymore since up to that point it had been about slaughtering humanity, and that crisis only became worse when he killed Izu specifically. Then on the opposite side the death of Izu shook everyone (minus Gai because who cares) with Aruto being hurt the most since by that point she had more or less become his best friend if not his sister, so the remnants of Ark pounced on the opportunity to change Aruto into a monster along with Horobi when Jin jumped into the crossfire. Ultimately the conflict between them became Aruto putting his grudge for Horobi aside and focusing on a better future for everyone instead of falling into Ark's plans of death and destruction for everyone, which is majorly portrayed by Aruto using Realizing instead of 02: 02 had more than enough power to whip Horobi's ass and is actually stronger than Realizing, but the objective of Aruto at that point was only to disarm Horobi and break him out of Ark's control, something Realizing Hopper was just strong enough to do.

But once Gai turn into a important character the season quality just crash into the ground brutally to the point I had to force myself to watch, alteast Fuwa made it more bearable. Is not the worst season but is probably the most dissapointing one for me.

@@TheGloryXros Nah, the last arc had a chance to bring it back. It was a huge failure, because guess what? The problem was still Gai. As soon as they revealed that it was Gai who taught Ark the horrors of humanity, the show derailed itself from the message of the first 15 episodes. Because it is never addressed. Because Gai doesn't suffer consequences for teaching Ark, and doesn't touch on how technically Ark is correct because it was a human that taught it that humans were disastrous, then there was no saving it. How they could've fixed this was to just keep Thouser as a villain, instead of trying to redeem him. It should've been Thouser who killed Izu, that way Arutu would've lost hope in humanity before regaining it in the end, because that's not what Izu would've wanted. It was such an easy way to fix the show, but it didn't go that route. In the end, humanity is never questioned, because Gai is never held accountable for his actions.

But right after that, it nosedives hard and never really recovers. I dislike p much every character minus Fuwa, the story is a clusterfuck, I think it's messages are very confused and jfc it's so damn slow. Its not the worst thing I've ever seen, prob in the range I'd have shows like Faiz and Wizard where there's a few decent enough parts that keep it from the absolute shit-tier. Good to see you guys back! Now as for my thoughts on Zero-One, I'm mixed on it. On one hand, I love the aesthetics and suits, the first arc was really good, I think the action is fantastic, and we get some solid character development. On the other hand, the writing goes completely downhill for the second arc, the job competition arc is one of the worst I've seen in Kamen Rider, and Gai as a whole is absolute trash. I don't care if he's intentionally unlikable cause I thought he was a terribly written character. Now I will say that the third arc was better than the second, but it still had problems, mainly Gai's "character development" and him turning into a jobber. (Even if it is satisfying to see him get his ass kicked.) Plus I didn't enjoy it as much as the first arc. I also wasn't a big fan of how the show basically ended on a cliffhanger, tho the movie did resolve it quite nicely. But yeah, I found Zero-One to be a bit of a mixed bag, and even if this was the first Kamen Rider I watched (not finished cause it was still airing when I started watching it) I still found it pretty disappointing. Tho I did enjoy quite a bit about it. Which is way more than I can say for Saber. That show's a fucking dumpster fire and I can't wait to see you guys tear it to shreds.

I gotta say this- Jacob has gotten REALLY JADED ON TOKUSATSU it seems. While the show is far from perfect, it’s a really entertaining AF, and the movies are on point for the most part. I get it though, I’m 57 myself and still enjoy many, many aspects of Rider Tokusatsu
