To be honest, the cat on the cover was the reason why I bought this Game. I tough it would be some weird futuristic game where cat rules the world with their robots.

I actually hesitated buying the game because of the cat being on the logo (allergic to cats). Its funny how simple banners and cover art can effect our buying decisions.

blie4 You're not very far off, since there's a lot of mention of pets being fine (which is a bit strange since humans are the product of evolution from them) supported by messages like "Dog is fine!" and that one terminal with making your home a shelter for animals.

+lowerlowerhk The cat represents the highest of one's consciousness, hence the robot's ascension/evolution. A cat has 9 lives, 9 is the highest number. 9 worlds of Norse mythology. Our solar system has 9 planets, that is if you include Pluto. Figuretively, the robot is on cloud 9. Ascension from the "Samara" can only occur by going through the "Gehenna", which is aslo the name of the Talos Principles's DLC. Gehenna was a place south of Jerusalem where children were sacrificed by fire to Moloch. Gehenna is also referred to as "hell." Which, I believe, is why you need the faith of a child to enter paradise. The Jesus story is an inversion of truth. Instead of one man dying for all, we all have a responsibility like that of Jesus, Frodo, Neo...etc. Adhering to religion's perverse doctrine's is like following the "Elohim" of The Talos' Principle. We're all gods in the making. Believing that one man did it for us and waiting his return will keep us stuck in the Samsara. Just like in this game, if you follow Elohim's way, you'll end up restarting the simulation over again. If one wants to ascend, they must pass through the fire...or at least be willing to, ie- Abraham and his son, Isaac, Isaac doesn't die. Also, Jesus, he doesn't die but ascends after learning the virtue of self-sacrifice. The pyramids have something in common. They were used either for sacrifice on a high place (altar) or they were for noble burial. Both used as instrument for death. The word Pyramid: 2 words: "Pyros" and "Middle" = fire in the middle. Towards the end of the LOTR movie, Frodo tells Sam he going away and it's only Frodo and Gandalf- both have obtained "Ascension" they make their way eventually to Valinor, the undying lands. Religions are a distraction. So are the many sciences that are being taught. The key is to stay hungry for truth and have the faith of a child. The truth will set us free. Purchased the game without knowing anything about it beforehand because I wanted a new puzzle game and it had good reviews. I was not prepared for this masterpiece.

You see, this kind of detail is typically why i love Croteam's games so much.

Best part of this ending: You are now an android living on earth's surface, (I think that's the Hoover Dam?), and you know that many machines still work (or you wouldn't be there), and, I'm assuming, you know how your physical body is built. You now have the potential to be the technical (that is, 'literal', ie 'technically correct in regards to the official definition), spiritual, moral, and [insert other important characterstic(s)] *progenitor* of an entire race. *What will you do?* Can you say "*Sequel*"? (You have no idea how much I hope Croteam can make that happen.)

sithmastur Ok, then do you have any idea which one it is? I really have no idea. Hoover Dam just seemed like a good guess to me because I know that: 1. It's an absolutely massive concrete structure. 2. We don't know the time period in which this is taking place relative to our own. (Meaning the landscape could be very different due to people altering it.) 3. The Hoover Dam is hollow, and has a number of immense turbines to generate electricity... which would definitely be required to run a massive computer like the MLA.

Apparently the robot would rather risk certain death than be given dominion over a land full of aggravating puzzles. I'm sure there were many times when he felt like blowing his brains out while collecting all the stars.

The music in the end is so sad.

This is why we need a sequel! I want to know what happened to the protagonist after he awakened into the world. Was 'he' lonely, or scared? Will he find other like himself, or maybe the remnant of humanity (if we weren't truly wiped out)? Ahhhhh, come on Croteam, get it out already! 😭🤣

Well no. The 'entity' that comes out of the simulation is just like us humans. It has passed the final trial and all the tests. Even calling it 'it' is probably wrong and we should invent a new adjective. I digress, so in my opinion it is just like any other human (in terms of emotion, morals etc.), but far more advanced in terms of computing capability. And it is technically immortal. So all it needs to do is start creating others like it. Eventually they will replace us humans in every aspect with a major difference being they will be immortal. So we technically don't need a part 2. Part 2 indicates that this is the new humanity, a hair short of perfection.

My take on Talos' lore/story: Spoiler alert - don't do "read more" unless you want spoilers! You have been warned - unlocking spoilers........ Done. The Institute was trying to find a way to preserve humanity's _legacy_ when it became clear that the _species_ couldn't be saved. The TALOS project's simulation was a testbed virtual creche to breed an AI capable of truly autonomous operation - actual self-reliant thought - and once a truly autonomous AI was created it was uploaded to a physical bot (along with the now-decrypted library, which was the bulk of humanity's accumulated knowledge) so it could carry humanity's knowledge past its own demise. Your AI version was the first one that outgrew its virtual environment. The questions this raises: how many _other_ simulations were also running at that facility, and what about the other projects working toward the same goal?

Could there still be humans that survived the mass-extinction event? I mean, if humanity was able to create: 1) a super computer as advance as ELOHIM 2) a robot with a mind capable of independent thoughts and storing the accumulated knowledge of the human race 3) a cloned/robot kitten Surely humans are capable of establishing a self-sufficient colony in space or on the Lunar surface, thus preserving the human race from extinction.

Afham Zaki As far as I have understood it, human race was wiped out by some disease and they didn't find cure for it. And TALOS project was something that was already ongoing prior to outbreak of that disease so they reused project as sort of Ark for knowledge. And if you look at technology used in game, it doesn't look all that "futuristic"; it look rather as something made out of hardware and technology we have today.And we today have very advanced robotics and there is quite a lot of robot prototypes that could be used as "body" if we had "software" to run it. So, it doesn't look to me like they were that far into future to have technology and capacity to create some space colony... And even if they had, if this disease was so deadly and unstoppable that it was uncontainable on Earth, then it won't be able to prevent it to be transmitted to that space station. That kind of overwhelming disease that would wipe out entire race could be only something that had looooonnggg period of inactivity, while still staying transmittable, so that entire population got infected before first symptoms ware show and first people start dying. And once they realized what's going on, there was nothing they were able to do. Only thing they got, was to try to somehow preserve our knowledge and legacy.

OddlyIncredible I assumed from reading the various names involved with the project, and the general feeling of acceptance of their "grim circumstances", that it was a singular, mass effort by humanity when they realised it was the beginning of the end. People from every nation got involved and, rather than competing with various lesser programs, they banded together to create a single, superior one. The playthrough where you get this ending is the one successful simulation after a time (I'm not sure if it's stated how long exactly) spent simulating to find the right AI to upload to the real-world shell. It'd be interesting to see if it went on to give up after years, or millenia, or proceeded to create other AI and essentially created a sentient machine race of AI in the image of humanity...

THE ONLY ENDING THAT MATTERS

My favorite game ending of all time!

One of the most chilling things about this game is that the humans wrote simple AIs to monitor and maintain the system in order to mould and shape the AI that would eventually become sentient, then close to human, then be uploaded into Talos. They didn't count on ALL of those AIs becoming sentient. What if uploading Milton into Talos was a mistake? What if Talos itself does not have the humanity we associated with our playable character?

I did everything in this. I released rhe cat from B7 and then ascended the tower. The cat walked out with my robot but my robot wasn't carrying him for some reaaon.

What if... This simulation was made inside another simulation? And now, that we've finally got human-like robot who learned about people, we're gonna let him be in this new world and see what's going to happen. Would he use the knowledge he gained from library to make the civilization of robots similar to our civilization, or would he rather try something different because he knows that our civilization had its flaws? And 'real' people are all ok, and are watching him in this new simulation. Talos Principle 2 confirmed, and Talos will be the new god.

Thanks, you make me happy now. :) Because the situation when the entire human civilization is wiped out - is extremely sad, stupid and actually unrealistic. Actually, it make sense. This simulation was the test phase 1, AI done with that, proved its individuality and became free. Now a time to test phase 2 - let's see what AI will do with that freedom, especially when he know about disaster and have compassion to humans. When AI will pass the second test, the people will know that AI is ready for real world. P.S. Yes, yes, I know, I just picked the most pleasant thought and believe in it. :) P.P.S. Actually it is irrelevant. the bad end in this game is very stupid and synthetic. In real world, people never allows to destroy the civilization. Fortunately, we are smart enough to prevent such disaster.

Nah, there is a file fairly early on (world B I think?) that is someone's new song. Which indicated that "everyone has it", except the dog, who is fine. And then there is the message reminding everyone to let their pets out so they have a chance of transitioning to the post-human world.

Ok so I'm playing the Xbox One version. I got the cat easter egg but the cat did not appear in the cutscene. I even heard it meow too. Was I suppose to get the cat before ascending the tower?

This ending right here is why I bought the game, along with for the soundtrack and get ideas how a good puzzle game flows, but this ending touches a place in my heart I didn't know was possible. Also look at this again, I realize how "Garden of Eden" this is. In the original story a part that is missed is that God knew Adam and Eve would eventually take apple of knowalge, it was more about when. Here we have Talos who is a very beautiful and heaven like environment, hay, the frustrating puzzles to us also add on to it as a machine would probably like a good logic puzzle, and is told to never reach the tower specifically to create tempation, once he does he's given the Gold Disk. Which for those curious is a real thing, where it has every bit of human knowalge we could cram into it meant for aliens to understand us better. So Talos quite literally was given a apple of knowalge. Once he is, this heaven is destroyed so he can never return, to continue life and humanities legacy. As be their greatest accomplishment as well.

+TheRisky9 In computer terms usually Disc is external and Disk is internal. So a "Gold Disk" is just some hard drive being mounted from the network. Even computers say "Burn to disc". Voyager would have a "Gold Disc" instead. Flash drives for some reason are still called "Disks" by the computer.

So, the cat you see on the cover image for the game is only an easter egg, at the end of it ?

In my mind, this is the best ending to the game because it shows that the good of humanity lives on, the part of humanity that would choose to save the kitty rather then leave it to die, since you have to free the cat from the box to get this ending

Finding the virtual cat unlocks the secret "cat ending", but the virtual cat is not the cat seen at the end. Remember, one of the emails on the terminals was a plea for people to release their pets into the wild before the disease wipes out humanity, since most animals were unaffected by the disease and would continue on without us. The cat at the end was probably a feral feline who had taken up residence in the tunnels of the project.

simulation time and outside is very different things...inside computer feels like an eternity but to the outside ...its only 15 minutes to activate itself ..system have to put the unit into a test first..so cat is real..looking for food but found its way into the facility when no humans exists ..so machines security camera been watching it, so it might been imagining copy into simulation ...

is the cat alive or just another machine?

Is possible the cat is also robotic. Still, the new AI will have to acknowledge that it has to die someday. But will cherish the time they have with their new fur companion. Just like humans.

I really liked this ending, even more than the completionist ending, it is very satisfying. However I always found it very jarring to hear a triumphant musical score in a world where all humanity is dead and the only one surviving is a humanoid robot. I don't know, it just makes me feel very sad at the idea.
